  1. I just have to tell... I was so impressed with my photographer from start to finish. He sent emails, PayPal. And we did TTD in a cenote. He had lots good equipment extra staff and I loved having the extra guy "scuba diver" there to help and know if I had problem"drowning" he was in water with me. He said he could give me air or help me up. I wore a huge dress so I was pleased. We won't get our pics for few more weeks but I can't wait. Also the price is fair. Juanphotos.com. Awesome job! Good English too!!!
  2. Food: ok so I didn't understand the menu. I also wanted food that matched beach, Mexico theme. Just my view. So I wrote Paty and told her what I wanted. We did a site visit but did not get to taste the food. I was also informed although we where there a week before wedding we still could not taste food but we did get to taste cakes. Our menu: cocktail hour- cheeses, fruit, quesadillas, little tomatoes topped with cheese. Displayed beautifly on the beach. Diner- small salad with fruit & vinegaret. Looked fab! Main- grilled chicken with mango salsa, mashed potatoes, veggies. Topped with coconut shrimp. We loved it and I ate. My husband said he wanted 2nd plate. Lol we both kept saying we could not believe how good food was and the mango salsa was more like sauce that went perfect with chicken, the potatoe where yummy. I told him I have to be the only bride that eats. To be honest during cocktail hour I kept eyeing the little snacks all pretty stuck around a watermelon. I will also say cocktail hour has gotten a lot of flak on here. I was very pleased and loved the food & service. It is worth the $10. I couldn't believe how much food and the servers where great all through the night. Food at buffet: we had originally wanted chicken & mole but worried it might not be good. One night we went to the buffet & they had it. It was so yummy! Let me just say my "husband" hehe and I are not buffet fans & eat out at really good places. I do not think you need worry about food, just tell them what you want & just as wedding decor you will be surprised. In good way. Any more questions please feel free. We leave tomorrow:(
  3. Hello from Cancun....well I hate to brag but I think you ladies need a smile and a deep breath. We got married July 5! We are still in a blur. I started 6 months ago and did all kinds of crafts etc. had list after list. But it seems the day of was hectic I couldn't remember where salon was and almost Late. I don't remember if I took enough pics and was busy getting my self and daughter ready. But I will say this, it was raining and cloudy even thunder all week. It sprinkled while I was getting makeup. Then sun came out and it was perfect during ceremony and cocktail hour. I am so glad we decided to have reception indoors. We and guest were all ready to cool off. Just after we went in it poured down raining bad. The reception was suppose end at 10 and we all went outside for fireworks. No rain! The party was started and we ended up extending each hour until 12!!! The food was excellent, the service, the decor, cocktail hour, and ceremony are worth every penny. We had one couple at Royal and we never got to see them. We all 31 guest stayed at GCR. The service is great. The food was the best buffet or all inclusive we ever had. Until we got to Jard Rock. Lol so it's all good.
  4. My day is almost here 5 days mas!and I see lots of rain in the forecast and my bill is crazy High! lol I have been keeping up with all you ladies and I have been the only one to have Paty as my WC. I thought that after i paid or got closer I could get one of the ons yall have had. But she told me yestrday we would meet tusday and she would take care of it all. So now I wonder if this is a good thing or bad. FEE FEE Feeess..So it this only me or what? I had to pay the outside vendor fee for Juan my photographer and I also have to pay the $99 day pass. So isnt that a 550$ fee. It is him and assistant. Please tell me if you also paid. I have 17 non Royal guest! yikes. 2 ays ago I found out 10 more people are coming. So we hit 50! which is awesome for fun and for the added $1700 fee. Well July 5 is so close I can almost taste the salt....
  5. Ladies. I highly recommend u start taking probiotics a week before u go. They have them at Walmart "culturelle" @$30 which is $1 a day. U should take these no matter where u are traveling ahead of time so that when your body does have to fight bacteria it will be easier. The water is different which touches all food. Also take pepto and anything else u use at home.
  6. Wow! So sorry hear that Emily....I will tell you the recommendation is great! I have been several times and the last 2 times I got sick. The last time I was 3 months pregnant and honestly thought the worst cause I had never been so sick in my life. I stayed in the room for 3 days no lights, no tv. I had dr come and had get shots and meds while pregnant and was terrified! I had no ideas what they where? So I have learned to take probiotics!!! The bug usually is from the fruit over there. I now get an extra bowl and wash things with bottle water before I eat. Because fruit is mostly water they obviously don't use bottled water to grow the fruit & lettuce so that's usually it. My doc said eat fruit that you don't eat outside. Like pineapple, coconut good. Grapes apples wash. So the cooked food is best! Hope you feel better and drink pedialyte. They have Mexican one and I ended up loving it. Really helped to get energy & strength back.
  7. I want to once again recommend Juan for photography. He is a friend of my FI family and we have been working with him for our wedding in July. He is so great, very professional. Has lots info, and contracts, uses PayPal and the pics are amazing!! I can't wait. His site is Juanphotos.com. I would definately check them out he has great ideas.
  8. Ok hm... I just told her I wanted coconut shrimp and chicken with a mango salsa, and chicken nuggets for the kids. I wanted tropical style food. And didn't get the menu. So maybe I can get away with no chart? I only want drinks for cocktail hour because of pictures.its getting close I have it been asked to pay anything yet. Does that happen toward end??

  10. I have a question? I was not planning on doing table #'s or place cards. I have not made seating charts. I just assumed with 30 guest they can sit where ever they want. We are not having brial parties grooms & bridesmaid. Only us and our daughter. So I thought no need tell people where to sit. But after reading on here I see y'all have. So do I have another project? Lol the hotel has not asked me for this only guest list.
  11. O_o from my u doers tanking when we did the tour iPod the GCR the Royal is all adults and the 3rd hotel is a gay hotel. All adult, all homosexual resort. So definately glad you fixed that! I know my uncle would be pissed. Lol
  12. I do not know about the TTD but have visited @4 cenotes. Your photographer would know and send you I to. But the are small so I imagine that he will go to one that is more private because they are open to public and it's very cheap. Like $3 dollars. Plus they have become very popular the last 2 years and I have noticed they are trying to turn them into more of a tourist thing. So there would be people in the way. They now have restrooms & snacks. Lol our TTD is super early at a cenote in July. Not sure where. My photo guy has awesome pis so I'm just going with whatever he says.
  13. I really wanted to reply to mariposa6102 concerns. I have been several times to cancun and surrounding areas. We have done most of all the tourist excursions, malls, etc. it is very safe all over from isla mujeres to tulum. We even rent a cheap little car when we go and take off on our own adventures. Since we have done the excursions we like to find more local things. We go to cenotes too. We ride the bus that runs up and down Cancun. Also safe and cheap! You have to realize that there only way of life is tourism. There is no other industry. So not only do they do it well but they are great people! They also have classes for the employees even fairy pilots take to all learn hospitality, and English. So please venture out. It's beautiful. Several recommendations if anyone interested.
  14. Oh I want to post photographers info because his work is great and he is very professional. Speaks English! Juanphotos.com.

  16. Drinks~ I told Patty I wanted blue drinks and she said no problem cause I have these cute straws with starfish on them. I also picked 2 dishes. I just told her what I wanted because I had no ideas what the menu said. I also asked for chicken nuggets for kids. I am concerned about length of reception and heat. July 5. So I am going to look at inside location and hang out outdoors on July 1st day we arrive. I told her I will then decide. She says no problem to it all....ladies does that mean there may be fees for things? Do they tell you yes with out stating cost?? I have chosen an outside photographer. He is family friend and does AWESOME pics. So guess I have to pay $350 fee. Does anyone have pics of there tables, flowers etc??? Please help. July 5 fastly approaching
  17. I just saw this thread and we have been to Akumal a couple times and love it. It is actually one of our favorite swimming spots. We also just swam out to see what we could rather than pay and found 3-4 turtles every time. The reef is also great and I took some crackers in a bag to feed the fish. It was awesome. Love it. So ready to go back!
  18. 5 months. no problems. also on busiest week and busiest month. July 5, 2013!
  19. Waaa. I paid the member fee when I first logged on. Only to discover all these templates are not working on my new MAC computer! If any has a MaC and could help me out in LAMENS terms. Please do. I spend hour trying figure them out and am 4 months away with not one project done. Note, buying a new computer to work on wedding...bad idea! I need classes just figure out computer. Lol
  20. Thanks ladies! Ok well we are having 25 guest si figured 5 tables for guest, us, cake, guest stuff/shell signing. So I think 80$ each is good. Plus i purchased burlap table runners and potpourri with big starfish(died blue) ans shells to put on the tables. I am wanting beach theme. So I think I will use there florist. But....after reading through this I had a HELLO MOMENT. MY FI has cousins that went last year. They know a family that lives in Cancun that they spent alot time with. Anyways, they met a photographer that they hung out with, came home and told us. He has AMaZING ideas. We plan on using him the next day for TTD. He does great pics in denotes and water. So I will now look into using him the day of. Oh his site is juanphotos.com. If y'all want check out.
  21. I have some questions for y'all? My date is fast approaching, July 5! Why are y'all picking outside photographers/videographers? Did I miss something? And as far as flowers I think with the time and cost of finding outside vendor, Once the GCR taxes on outside vendor fee are you really saving money$? I am now wondering if I need to start looking around too. I have been going with all info Paty has sent me cause I wanted things be easier. That's why I chose destination. But after reading here I'm wondering if I should find different photographer. We also are going the next day to better locations to do TTD shots at cenotes so I didn't plan on paying hotel for that. We know a great photographer in cancun. ^makeup SCAM! I was going use hotel salon. Heard they did good. Plus being in July I figure my makeupwon't last long.
  22. Ok I never called anyone ignorant. I was simply pointing out that even though it adds to the to do list. Reading up on the meanings of it may ease your mind on doing the traditional stuff. Because of its symbolic meanings. I also suggested beach for those who wanted to design here own ceremony. I myself never knew about them growing up. Even though catholic. But am marrying into a traditional Mexican family from Mexico. Since the announcement of our wedding the older women in his family have gone into there rooms to there secret hiding places and showed me there coins. They seem just as special to them as our rings do to us. They also flock to the opportunity to buy them for the next runner up. So I just meant to not stress over it.
  23. I just wanted to say and hope it doesn't come out rude...I think if you want to get married in the church in MEXICO you should respect and appreciate the traditions of the church. It is what makes it so beautiful and the long tradition of it is amazing. If you do not understand it then do research read up about it. It all has very special meaning. If the Atmosphere is why you are going there to get married then do the beach ceremony. You can make it more how you want to. I also could never imagine asking the priest to do it my way. I would feel like I am offending not only him but the whole religion. If your not really catholic then I would just suggest beach. Just my thought. It kind of made me sad to here some replys to findings coins etc. those are gifts that should be given to you by someone special. I know we are all spending $ making things. The symbolic things in ceremony are for you (couple)forever. Worth $ more than bubbles or cups, towels. I would do some research. It is so beautiful & personal.
  24. We love, love La Parilla. It is in downtown Cancun. The atmosphere is great and the food is the best. Highly recommend the chicken and. Ole. They also have a a lunchtime buffet that is no typical buffet. I'm not sure what day it is but it's a Local favorite and any one there knows. It last all day too.
