  1. OMG Amanda, I just watched your video. It's soo beautiful!! Can we go back please??? hahah
  2. Here's a slideshow from my wedding for anyone that's interested and hasnt seen it on fb yet. http://www.goddardstudios.com/videos/Pete+Melissa.html
  3. Hi Mamzaleg, I got married 4.28.13 which was after spring break, but as far as my experience went, I never felt bombarded by tons of kids. Everyone in our wedding group wanted to stay there longer, even the young single ones, and noone complained of the resort having too many crying babies or anything like that. I did not do a site visit first, so I got lucky on venue choice. A bride that got married a day before me said that they searched 14 or so venues before finding and choosing ABH. For my husband and I, we liked that the resort was small and personal, they specialized in weddings, but only allowed one per day, and their food/service had excellent reviews.
  4. asposeep - thanks!! i posted a review on doremixx (though I misspelled the name as dorremixx for when you search). I sincerely hope you have a better experience with them than I did - and from other reviews out there on him, it was hopefully a fluke with us. All in all the party was jumpin on the day of so they did their job. =) It was mainly the communication beforehand that was a struggle (and that they never did the bouquet toss or garter toss).
  5. I tried to start a new thread with this review, but I'm not sure where it went, so I am posting it again here. There are a lot of positive reviews out there for DJ Dorremixx, but I felt I should post my personal experience with them for other brides to be aware of. In order to book them I had to pay a steep outside vendor fee and in hindsight the onsite vendors would have been easier to deal with since they were affiliated with the resort. I started emailing with Dorremixx in July of 2012 (my wedding was in April 2013). Right off the bat they were extremely slow to respond to emails and when I would send follow ups requesting a response he (Ivan) would then respond and every time the reason was because their server was not working. I chaulked it up to the fact that it is Mexico so servers could be slow, but since he had SO many great reviews on this website that it would be worth it to stick with them despite the lack of the adequate communication beforehand. Fast forward to the weeks before the wedding, when my FI and I corresponded with someone named Mariska. She confirmed that she could meet with us at 10am on the Thursday after we arrived in Mexico for an onsite meeting in the lobby of our hotel (our wedding was that following Sunday). When we went to the lobby on that Thursday there was noone there, so we had the concierge assist with calling her. She had no recollection that we had a meeting and asked if we could come back to the lobby at 11 instead to meet with her. Once we met with Mariska, she documented everything in our spreadsheet and said that she would email us to confirm the name of the DJ that would be working at our wedding since our wedding coordinators requested this information. We never got an email. We sent another email to her the day before the wedding requesting that give us the name of the DJ who would work our wedding as well as for a copy of the latest spreadsheet. We did not get a response from her until 2 days after the wedding!! She then said, “it's after the wedding now, so is there anything else I can help with?" Ridiculous! We had put together a complete list of songs for dinner and dancing so the work should have been done for the DJ on the night of as far as song selections went. However within the first hour of dancing he played 3 songs that were not on our list. We had only 2 slow songs in our list and the DJ proceeded to play them back to back instead of splitting them up. Luckily our guests were so fired up and excited to be celebrating that our party did not lose momentum, but only 2 guests danced during the second slow song and the rest of us did shots. LOL. Again, ridiculous!! THEN - they completely DID NOT do the bouquet toss or garter toss that we had given them information for in our spreadsheet!!! On the plus side, I felt like our wedding party was in a club - the lighting was great, and the balloons and masks that they handed out were a lot of fun. But it seems like most of the djs down there hand this stuff out. Everyone complimented the music (which we put together), and noone even realized that there was supposed to be a bouquet or garter toss, so thankfully the party was still amazing and we had a blast. Again, this is one person's experience, so maybe this is not the case with everyone. But I personally would not recommend this DJ to any future brides. I hope they are able to get their server working, be a lot more communicative and listen to what is requested by their customers in the future.
  6. Woops - Sorry the name is mispelled in the title. This is for DJ Doremixx.

  8. I'm back!!!! Our wedding was AMAZING!! For anyone who has not seen the resort in person - it is even BETTER in person than in photos!! The resort is gorgeous, the size is perfect, everything is soo personalized, and the food is great!! Everyone who attended our wedding absolutely LOVED the place (which was surprising with some people who are not strangers to complaining). It was kind of anticlimatic to go to the Grand Mayan for our honeymoon (which was perfect so we could unwind), but nothing compares to ABH. We were a "person with a name" to ABH and "No" was not in anyone's vocabulary, and a "room number" to the Grand Mayan. The wedding coordinators onsite were great and everything went very smoothly. The only hiccups were with our DJ and noone was able to tell anything except for us (it was with Dorremixx so outside vendor and I'll post something separate for them). I've posted several pictures on facebook so friend me if you want to see (they are not organized so there's a bunch of party pics with people mixed in, but several of the ceremony, reception and a few of the resort itself). Search for me under Melissa Silverman ([email protected]). Thanks again to all the ladies that offered advice during the planning stages - it made SUCH a difference in the whole experience for me! xoxox
  9. Im not sure about air tran specifically, id look at their policies. We r flying united and a wedding dress does not count as ur personal item, so my understanding is u can have a carry on, purse/laptop, and the dress. We r going super early and just hoping to get it in the closet
  10. Thanks Amanda! Too bad FI and I check out of ABH on May 3. We will have just missed eachother. We'll need to compare notes afterwards! =)
  11. Quote:Originally Posted by KaelaMcD Originally I wanted to bring a tray, just like the one they had...and it just wasn't happening! There was just no way I could pack it! So, I rolled the dice and hoped that they would have something to help make the idea in my head come to life. Sure enough, they had that tray at the resort, and provided it, and set up all the name "cards" for no additional charge. You should be good. That is so exciting that you leave so soon!!! You are going to have such an amazing time...so jealous! We all want lots of pics when you get back. Congrats again, and have so much fun! That's great news! I was really hoping they had the tray at the resort already. I have no idea how we are going to get everything down there as it is! =) Thank you so much Kaela for all of your help through all of this and for the well wishes! Thanks also to everyone else (Amanda and htztrtz to name a couple) on this forum for your help and advice! =D Amanda, we won't be getting back until May 10 (we are staying at the Grand Mayan for an additional week after we leave ABH on May 3), and I believe you will already be married by then! Have such a fabulous wedding!!
  12. Hi Kaela, I love how you did the starfish name cards in a tray with sand. I have shell holders that I wanted to put in a similar tray. did you bring that yourself or did the resort have it for you to use? If you got it yourself, where did you get it from? I can't believe we leave in 1.5 weeks!! Thank you!!! Melissa

  18. Quote:Originally Posted by phsexxy Has anyone brought there own decorations for the ceremony (the gazebo)? Did any of you purchase your own white sheer organza fabric, if so where did you purchase it and how much did you purchase? I asked the same question on the Azul Beach thread. Kaela was kind enough to provide this info. I ended up buying 2 bolts of the ivory sheers. "Here is the exact link of what I purchased off of Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005WYWE9Y/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It says it's unavailable now, but I'm sure you can find something similar. Like this for example, http://www.amazon.com/Ivory-Organza-Fabrics-Yards-Wholesale/dp/B005WZMOS4/ref=sr_1_13?s=arts-crafts&ie=UTF8&qid=1362551632&sr=1-13&keywords=organza+fabric It's the same thing I got, but ivory instead of white (which is so close when we're talking about sheer organza). I think it ended up costing me about $40 total. Huge savings compared to what it costs to rent them from Lomas! It was two bolts of organza fabric, both measuring 25 yards each, and it was more than enough. We gave them to the wedding planners, and the staff assembled them to the gazebo. Packing tip: I had to take the cardboard out of the bolts to make them much easier for packing, otherwise they won't fit in a standard suitcase."
  19. That's true since they'll be working from 7 - 11 which is our whole reception, I'm not sure when they would break to eat. Thanks for sharing! =)
  20. Thank you so much ladies!!!! I put my FI to work on the music. =) I think we may buy a speaker system too! Did you get your DJ a meal? I saw on the Sensatori page that they were able to order vendor meals for $9, but my coordinator didn't mention that option at Azul Beach.
  21. hrztrtz - thanks for all of your posts as well as your review! It is VERY helpful. I'm so glad your wedding sounds like it went very smoothly, the coordinators were extra helpful and it sounds like your wedding was everything you dreamed of! Congrats! -as for your advice on the hair and makeup - do you think we shouldn't book rehearsals for hair and makeup in advance either? is there any risk that we might not be able to book our appts at convenient times if we wait until arrival? is the discount significant? -Ok, I have a few more questions for ya'll. =) -Did anyone you know use their kayaks? Did they have to be reserved in advance, and was there a fee or deposit? -Does the hotel give you a list of all guest room #'s once they check in?
  22. Here is what I said in my welcome letter. I created a post card at vistaprint.com. They seem to have lots of deals on their site. "Dear Family and Friends, Welcome to the Riviera Maya! We are extremely pleased that you were able to travel with us to celebrate our special day. Words cannot express how sincerely honored and blessed we feel that you are here. We hope that you fully enjoy your time in Mexico and the festivities that this weekend will bring. Please join us at the Wave Lounge on Saturday from 5-7pm to enjoy some tacos and beer and kick off the celebration! As a reminder the wedding ceremony will begin promptly at 5pm on Sunday at the beach. Please enjoy your beach bag and the goodies it contains as a small token of our appreciation for your being here. We hope they make your stay in Mexico just a little bit more fun and comfortable. Let the fun begin! Peter and Melissa"
