  1. I am at a loss as to how to get people to hand over money in a timely fashion, because I am in the same boat, even family members that say they are coming are procrastinating and YES it is frustrating!!!! Keep your head up and carry on is all that you can do.
Yes, you have to know your guest list. Those I thought were definitely coming were unable to. If I knew then what I know now it would've been very different.
  2. $1,000? Ouch! Bases on experience, would you recommend couples collect the deposit themselves before booking with the TA then add about 5 rooms to their count? For example, if we collect $50 from 10 people we have cash on hand for 5 rooms. We would then only use $500 of our own money to reserve 5 additional rooms for people who could not make our "deposit" deadline. I'm trying to see how things like this could be avoided.
If you could do that and your family and friends would go for it that would be best. You just don't want to be stuck with rooms you can't fill. Also if you want a large presence at your destination wedding choose a well traveled location with very affordable resort and flight rates.
  3. When did people start to hear from their coordinator/should I reach out?  My wedding isn't until Sept 1 and the group events start Aug 30.  I'm just a little nervous w/our big group that we'll have the right space for everything!
Amanda since your wedding is far off you won't hear from the coordinator for a while. If you reach out and receive assistance it will most likely be from someone else other than your wedding coordinator. They typically won't contact you until about 90 days before.
  4. Hello Renenewbride! Congrates on your wedding in June! We will be getting married on that Saturday June 15th at Playacar Palace. We were wondering do you plan on purchasing all your decor from the wedding planner or were you bringing some from home? Is there a big cost and convienience difference? Thanks and again Congrats!
I'm sure we will bump into one another! We will be married on the 13th but we will be there the 10th through the 15th. On the 15th we will go to Azul Fives until the 19th. We're still attempting to figure out decor. After receiving the prices from Dulce for the wedding collection decor I definitely have streamlined things. I'm still looking at the other vendors, but I may purchase my own decorations and take them down myself. Same with the florist. We opted for the complimentary package and we will only have 17 ppl total, but the private reception is $750. Things add up quickly :-)

i'm having the same issue, especially because we put a deposit down to block the rooms & the guests have up to a month prior to the wedding to get this special deal (50% savings for a 4 star hotel!) & it's frustrating because if they don't book, & we don't get the required minimum rooms, we lose the deposit & our guests who book lose the deal. So then my dad said he'd have to pay the difference which then hits into the budget!

    ugh!

Same here. We placed a deposit for 20 rooms, we can drop up to ten of them by April 7th, after that it's a done deal. We haven't even gotten all 10 booked which means we lose the deposit for all 10 rooms, even those that were booked. Guests only have until April to book too. That will be $1000 down the drain. I'm so irritated with it right now.

  6. I actually have it in writing that for 2013 photographers and videographers are the only vendors that are allowed to just purchase the day pass and not pay an outside vendor fee!  I was pretty careful on this because it impacted how much I was able to budget towards my photographer altogether.  I do believe that other vendors, however, have the higher fee associated w/them.
Did your wedding coordinator put it in writing because they told me there was a fee, but I don't want to use the in-house photographers.
  7. Could you find out if there is a fee for the wedding guests over the 30ppl limit? I will have 75+ room nights so I will have unlimited private events, but I'm not sure if I will be charged extra for going past the 30 guest maximum for the wedding ceremony/ reception. Also will I have to pay the fee to make my reception a private event? Lastly could you take pictures of the south and north solarium as well as the Cielo bar?? Thanks soooo much!!! I'm so lucky to have found this site!

Thank you for your responses.  We are soooo frustrated right now because trying to get information from travel agencies that includes everything is not working out.  We feel like we are under the gun because we want people to be able to budget to come to our wedding.  One travel agent we have spoken to has given us quotes, but when asked about airfare, she stated that rates go down usually 3 months before travel.  What???? Our guests do not want to book the accommodations and then now they have to figure out how to get there.  We also tried one person at Liberty Travel who was just so unprofessional and she is supposed to be the veteran of destination weddings with at least 20 years experience and she didn't even have the decency to call us back at all.  We also looked into Apple vacations, but they want a deposit before they will even help you.  If any of you brides can please direct us to someone that you highly recommend we would greatly appreciate it.  We would like to get our save the dates out in the next couple of weeks.  We can't do any of the fun stuff until we get the travel plans set in stone.  Thank you ladies and I apologize for the long rant.

I understand, I went through about 4 different TA's and most were nice, but couldn't give me exactly what I was looking for. I'm currently working with a TA from destinationweddings.com. Her name is Sherryl Dabbs and she has helped me out sooo much! Not to mention I can call or email her whenever I need to and she gets right back to me. Message me if you need her contact info :-)

  11. Thanks for all the information guys! I was contacted by TA Patty yesterday evening and am now awaiting contract information for the selected resort. So far so good and I am excited about the possibility of not having to route calls and feel even more stressed for our destination wedding :-)
