  1. We didn't pay anything extra either and our reception was 3 hours. They just kept bringing us drinks. I don't remember anyone having a problem ordering a drink as it got later. In fact, my guests were ordering a bunch of tequila shots before we left. Then the bartender gave one of my guests the actual bottle of tequila and we took it to the sports bar and partied there. Even at our cocktail function there were so many drinks on the little high top tables one of our guests knocked them over! :-) It's like they bring you so many drinks you don't know what to do with them literally. LOL
  2. Awww well your son was adoreable and you guys looked great walking down the beach together. I think Mario and Rebeca thought we were a little nuts because we had so many questions and were trying to get as specific answers as possible. It seemed like the first words out of Mario's mouth were, "I have a wedding to be at at 4 PM" almost like he was trying to tell us we were on a timeclock with getting our wedding stuff handled. Rebeca kind of gave us strange looks too. Maybe it was all in our heads but just got that impression. Did you deal with Carlos at the front desk? He was awesome and helped us with our room mix up too. All our guests were spread out on different floors and he got them all on the same floor. I felt the exact same way about Sun Palace. I liked the food but just for fun we looked at a room there and we walked on the balacony and it was right next to another balcony. It was crammed and so was the beach. I did not like it and valued the BP so much more. Plus, the rooms at BP were bigger. That is awesome you got a suite. I wish we could have stayed longer after the wedding. We got in on Memorial Day and left the following Tue after our wedding. I want to go back again! :-)
  3. I just remember you walking down with a cute young boy. I noticed your decorations from the pictures and I remembered that was the wedding we watched. We just got in that day and were exhausted from spending like 3 hours in the offices talking to everyone involved with our wedding (we hadn't even had lunch yet). It was nice to get down to the beach and watch your wedding so we could have an idea of how it would go. I didn't remember much of our ceremony either. I had to watch our DVD. Our coordinator was Mario. We saw your coordinator a lot because she was in the same office as Mario. How did you like the Sun Palace? We went down there one night for dinner. I liked the Beach Palace better. :-)
  4. Mehganc - OMG I saw your wedding! I was watching it on the beach. Me and my husband got married there the following Saturday June 2. You were beautiful! I recognized your pictures. How cool! Can't wait to see the rest of our pictures. I posted a few of ours on my page.
  5. Hey nursebrooke, The people at Smile Market were really nice to deal with. They did everything we paid them for. The only maybe negative would be I didn't personally feel that our photographer gave us the most creative poses. Prior to going to Cancun I did a lot of research and saw many wedding pictures at the Beach Palace. I felt our pictures were average compared to everyone elses. I still need to post my beach shots so you can see. Honestly, I think part of the reason our pictures looked great was because the weather was great and the sky was beautiful that day. You will see when I post the pictures. Plus, the moon was out so she tried to capture shots with the moon in the background and use the moon to do certain poses. I'm sure the quality of the photographer you get, since everyone is different, could have to do with the outcome. If you see my pictures and you still like them I can get you my photographer's name. Can you use the pictures from smile market (32 shots I believe is included) plus bring in your outside photographer to take some photos? Otherwise, like you said you will lose it. We brought our own IPod docking station but it ended up being too small so the music was not loud at all. But then again it was a small group (14 people) so it was soft background music. I personally would have rather had louder music though if I could do it over again, I mean I wouldn't spend the money to pay for their sound system but I would buy a bigger docking station. We put together 3 hours worth of music to play so we wouldn't run out. We were able to do our 3 dances (first dance, father/daughter, mother/son) during our private function. The nice thing was we took the IPod docking station back to Kohl's to get our money back when we got back. OK so the sky terrace is the terrace only weddings are on. However they will let you do cocktail hour up there but not private function. So we had our private function at the pool terrace (the level down from the sky terrace). Ours was on the Southside Lagoon side. We were charged I think $150 from Zuniga for a set up fee, transportation fee, etc. It wasn't considered an outside fee. The fee may vary depending on the amount of stuff they bring for you. Hope that information helps! I will try to post more pictures so you can get more of an idea on the photography.
  6. Hey guys! Check out some of my new pictures. There is a picture on there of our table setting for our private function dinner. Actually, the professional pictures makes it look like it's out of a magazine or something. The is going down in the background. It was probably around 7:30-8:00ish?
  7. Renewing32 which old wedding package did you want? Ask your wedding coordinator that you would like to incorporate those items into the new package. It may be more but if there is something you really like they may be able to get it exactly how you want they can pick and choose things to put in your ceremony it doesn't all have to be structured in the packages. The aisle runners in that ceremony picture I purchased by their outside vendor Zuniga which was above and beyond what the wedding package offered. You may want to get in touch with them to find some decor you like. We splurged on a lot of our items but it was worth it to me. Also, I added a few more pictures. Trying to get more uploaded again soon!
  8. For decor we had the diamond wedding package $2375, of course we applied the $1500 resort credit, which brought it to $875. It's a little misleading because if you look at diamond package wedding photos you assume oh I'm getting the beautiful chandelier and diamond curtains with sheer fabrics. No, you get silver fabrics and sashes around the chair and no diamond chandelier or diamond curtains those are an additional $300 upgrade. I definitely wanted them so I didn't mind paying that. Just make sure you reserve that ahead of time with the wedding coordinator. Also, think I kinda got screwed on the fabrics because again the upgrade for $300 includes these very sheer see through white fabrics which appeared that way around the aisle chairs but up above on the hoopa alter the fabrics weren't as elegant. I also made sure they had my fabrics hanging straight across and straight down. I don't like the angle look myself which is just personal. I had them set the chairs up at an angle instead of straight down the aisle. We also added 4 aisle runners (2 at the alter and 2 at the beginning of he aisle that consisted of white mums in a glass vase with gems inside sitting on top of a base with a light that shines up in it). For the ceremony you couldn't see the light but they moved those down to the private function dinner after the ceremony and the light was pretty. I had them placed outside each square end of the table sorta bordering it if that makes sense? You will see in photos. Those came to a total of $300 but really make it look nice I think. They also moved the sashes around the chairs for the ceremony around a few of the chairs at the private function. Make sure to ask them to move those things for you otherwise they most likely won't. Our private function dinner was on the South side Lagoon side it is better for evening because you see the lights of the lagoon. I had to be talked into this because I so wanted it on the ocean side right but really it's better on the lagoon at night. We spent $50 per person (14 people = $700) for our private function which basically includes your buffet and them serving your drinks and having waiters specifically for you although since it's a buffet you go get your own food. They just bring you drinks and serve your cake after you cut it. In addition to that we upgraded our chairs to the silver tiffany chairs at $7/each ($58 total). Since we only had 14 people I had the idea of doing a big square table so they did 4 chairs on each side except for 2 on the side for me and my husband. We upgraded to the silver square charges $3/each ($52) and purple napkins $3 each ($52). We had 2 beautiful centerpieces. Each one included 3 glass vases on a mirror with candles and pink, purple, and white rose petals spread on top. We also had an additional 6 square ivory candles (not sure how much those were) that were strategically placed just right on our table. Plus, we opted to go for 15 or so candles around the outside of the terrace pool ($80). I wanted the theme to be dim. We had them put a purple light under our table which was beautiful it made the table glow! Can't remember how much that was though? They also, at no additional cost shined a spotlight from the sky terrace down onto our table on the southside lagoon pool terrace. We left there with a bill of about $4000 but that included $575 for before and after photography, $695 upgrade to classic photography, $300 diamond package upgrade, $700 private function cost, and the rest decorations. That cost didn't include the diamond package ceremony cost or the $300 government fees/blood test. Private function and ceremony decor I wouldn't change a thing. I already had some ideas and Lily was great at helping me figure it all out. I honestly wouldn't change anything to the wedding besides moving it up earlier to capture better colors of the ocean in pictures. It's all about what you want. If you can I can give you her email and you can have her email you pictures of ideas (centerpieces, fabrics, light, etc.) ahead of time to narrow things down and check prices. Your wedding coordinator usually is supposed to put you in contact with these people but maybe you can get a head start. They sort of jam that in the 30 days right before you go down and you feel rushed. So the earlier the better.
  9. Hey everyone, I will try to upload my pictures by the weekend. Our professional pictures came in this week! I do want to share my wedding experience at the Beach Palace resort. I started researching resorts in Cancun back in July of last year right after I got engaged in Cancun. I used Majestic World Vacations out of Chicago who specialize in Palace resort weddings. I lucked out with my travel agent because she was really Type A personality :-) plus she was FREE. She would call me on the weekends and at night which I thought was great. If anyone wants her name email me. Anyway, I guess there have been a lot of changes going on with Miami handling the weddings and it made things more complicated when we were down there but it all worked out in the end. We got the diamond package wedding for $2375 and applied our resort credit of $1500 towards the package so initially with our contract we paid $875 for the wedding package plus the $300 for government fees and blood test etc. That was all paid for before we went down. Also, non of my guests, nor us, had to pay the 11% tax on the resort credit we used (this was a recent change they added). We booked over 30 total room nights so we were able to get the FREE cocktail function and 2 free nights (we stayed 8 nights - Memorial Day through the following Tue.). Using the travel agent we had to pay a down payment to hold at least 10 rooms (down payment was $500) and as our guests reserved their rooms with our travel agent she applied the $500 towards our own room rate (she gave us an ocean room rate of $389 for double occupancy) so we paid that for 6 nights so it came out to be like $1800-$200 for us to stay 8 nights with the 2 nights for free and $500 credit back. Hope that makes sense. Once we got to the resort we were a little disappointed because they told us our room was on 1st floor and right by the elevator. We called our travel agent immediately and got moved to 5th floor still right off the elevator but it wasn't all too bad. The view was high enough you didn't see the big screen. You just can't see the people laying out on the beach. The screen perfectly blocks that. Right away that first day we met with our wedding coordinator Mario, our photographer Adriana from Smile Market, and Lily from Zuniga. We had done lots of research before hand which helped us save time when we were there. Luckily, since we came in on a Monday and the wedding wasn't until Saturday we had time to make changes. Lily from Zuniga was awesome to work with she new exactly what I wanted for decor. We spent $1194 on private function decorations and upgrades for the Diamond package (chandalier, diamond curtains, fabrics). I thought it looked really nice especially our table setting at our private function. I will post pictures of it so you can see. We upgraded our photography to the classic package $695 and did the before and after shots $595. I wanted the photographer to just use the time doing the "before" ceremony photos (1 hour) as we were getting ready and use the 2 hours in the classic to do all the "after" photos on the beach and private function after the ceremony. They were able to do that. Prior to coming to Cancun my travel agent put me in contact with Clarissa, the spa/salon manager, she was able to book our hair/make-up appointments ahead of time. However, to be quite honest, I had my trial and wasn't really feeling what the stylist did. She did use MAC make up which was good but I brought in false eyelashes and when we put them on they were a bit too much and so she offered to cut them and basically jacked them up so bad I couldn't wear them so I had to ask my bridesmaid to bring another set down. Also, she had my hair in an updo that was nice. I was indecisive about my hair being up or down so that probably didn't help but I didn't like the styles on me. I wanted more modern waves with the rod iron instead of a curling iron. They don't have rod irons to wave hair down there. Luckily I brought my own. Also, they don't have Shellack nail polish if you are wondering. I ended up making the decision to do my own hair and make-up. It was a risk but I saved money and I think it looked good if not better. However my sister got her hair done by a woman named Raquel and hers turned out cute. Could be all in who you get and what you like. I just made sure to book my reservation have my trial early enough so I could back out if I didn't like it, you get a 24-48 hour notice to cancel. While all this was going on we found out our guests rooms were all over the place so our travel agent told us to speak to Carlos, the front desk manager, and he was SO nice. He moved all our guests rooms on the 5th floor with us and really took the time to make us happy. Kudos to Carlos! Also, our wedding coordinator was Mario. He was nice but he always reminded us right away when we saw him he had another wedding to be at (almost in a way to make us feel like we were on a time clock with him). We didn't like that. I know he was really busy and stressed with a ton of weddings. Otherwise, he was alright to work with but again we had done our research so knew what we wanted for someone else you might want someone that takes more time with you. We really lucked out with the weather. On Tues. we met with Mario and he's all like "we need to talk about plan b for rainy weather." He had me convinced it was going to rain for our ceremony and I had to mentally prepare myself for an indoor wedding so I wouldn't become depressed. Apparently, there was some storm system coming in. It poured the Friday night before for our cocktail function which they moved across to the ballroom. It wasn't so bad having it indoors. The ceremony day I was SO nervous about the weather because as you know one hour it could be completely sunny and the next hour rain. There was a 30% chance of rain at 6 PM and 60% at 3 PM before. It got really cloudy at 3 PM and then suddenly it became blue sky and beautiful. We even had the moon! I was so happy. I would suggest trying to figure out the forecast and moving your wedding if you have the option especially if there is a higher percentage of rain during the hour of your ceremony. The other thing I wish would have been different and this is just personal is having our ceremony during the day so the sun is hitting the ocean and reflecting the green colors of the ocean. I initially fell in love with the sky terrace because I saw photos with the pretty blues and greens. Since our wedding was sunset 6 PM it was mostly blue ocean no greens. Honestly, I don't think I or our wedding party would have been able to handle that heat during the day and I knew my hair and make up would be a mess so 6 PM was still hot but not as brutal. We have some beautiful pictures. Can't wait to show. If any of you guys have more specific questions let me know!
