  1. Well ladies, this will be my last post here About 80% of our VIP's informed us that they would be unable to make the trip. A few pregnancies with due dates within a month of our date as well as financial hardships, job loss etc. So... Plan B. We are getting married on Nov. 23rd at a NC Beach. Using the trip as a Thanksgiving holiday, almost 100% of our guest list has committed to coming. My key requirements were Beach and Family. This way I get both at least! I will certainly miss the tropical feel, open bar, etc. But my fiance and I both agree this is for the best. We will be traveling on our original date for our honeymoon, since we have already booked air and are certainly still excited to experience EDR! I hope you all continue to enjoy your planning and have wonderful weddings at EDR!
  2. I hear you about the decorations vs. blood/legal work. I'm not a fan of getting stuck with needles and we also found out we would need birth certificates translated and "apostiled?" by a Mexican consulate in our state. So ya... that's not all going to happen! Much happier with the easier non-legal situation. I teach 2nd grade and we live in the Piedmont/Triad area. My fiance and I visited Charleston for the first time last Spring, loved it! I grew up very close to the coast in Maine and so envy folks that live by the water!
  3. We decided on the basic package, the Pearl. Still trying to figure out dinner and numbers are anywhere between 15-40. Our official RSVP isn't until Feb. 1, it's driving me crazy! Right now we opted for the Royale side, things may change but we only had 6 nights available. I teach so getting a week off in the middle of the school year was hard enough! Regarding the packages, I'm not very happy with the choices :/ At first we were going to do a legal, but have since decided to do an "undercover" symbolic. My parents are the only ones that know it will not be the legal, my mom is a notary public in our home state and has done family/friends weddings, she is going to preform the ceremony. Our package inclues, Professional services of a wedding coordinator Complimentary online bridal registry and wedding website Wedding guests concierge Bride's personal in room wedding attendant on wedding day beginning 3 hours prior to ceremony Groom's room on wedding day from 10 am to 4 pm stocked with a selection of beverages and gourmet bites Non-denominational Minister Souvenir wedding certificate Romantic ocean front wedding ceremony location Special aisle runner*, table with white linen and uncovered ceremony chairs Bride's fresh floral bouquet Groom's matching boutonniere Framed 5x7 picture of wedding couple Dinner reservations for wedding group *(restaurant and group size varies by hotel) Personalized menu card Romantically decorated suite on wedding night with rose petals, aromatherapy and candles Breakfast in bed on first honeymoon day We don't need half of this stuff... I'm having a hard time justifying the $950 for this, because we will need to pay for the extras such as decorations and reception.
  4. Ms. Tigger! We're getting married April 20, 2013 at the Fuentes Gazbeo as well! How lucky that you are able to do a site visit! Can I live vicariously through you and hop in your luggage?
  5. Thanks, I'm looking forward to trying on dresses! I wish I could say I truly have the entire summer to work on planning but, I teach and an extended year school that's currently on a federal grant program, thus I teach until June 27th and start back up again August 1st. I have a week of professional development training and 2 weeks of weddings back in my home state, that leaves me with of free time As for the legal/symbolic. We just can't decide... My parents have been pretty against the idea of legal happenings occurring here, they are assisting us in finances for the wedding. My mom feels like it defeats the purpose of going to Mexico in the first place... I agree in principal but just seeing the costs go up and up.. I'm trying to consider all options.
  6. Thanks for the welcomes ! We are piecing things together slowly but surely. As for a dress, I'm actually in love with one that is $198!! Haven't purchased just yet since I'm still looking around but I'm confident I can stay under $500. We are doing a 6 nights stay, in the regular part of the resort, forfeiting the "free wedding". I am a teacher so I can't take more then a week off in the middle of the school year With the silver package being $950, that certainly ups the budget a bit.. I'm wondering if that includes the paperwork/ legalities/ translation. I know it is another $500 for the judge as well as the blood work fee... Any tips about how you've found ways to save a little here or there would be appreciated! Valeria is our on-site coordinator, I have not been in touch with her yet. A little overwhelmed with the school year ending and trying to get everything into it's place. As for photographers? Has anyone been able to find a quality deal? It's looking like an avg. of $1000 or so..
  7. Hey EDR brides! I've been lurking for the past month or so and have enjoyed all the stories, advice and photos! Our date is 4.20.13 at EDR, we've booked rooms and flights! Now trying to figure ceremony/reception details, photographer, a dress and a suit! We had set a budget of $5,000 but it doesn't seem that will be happening I'm curious to hear, for those of you who don't mind sharing, what your budgets looked like. Without favors, a dress or suit we're up to about $6,500 so far...
  8. Hi all! I've been lurking for the past month or so, loving all of the stories/reviews and photos everyone has been posting! My fiancé and I are getting married at EDR 4.20.13. We've sent out STD's, ordered invites, book rooms (6 night’s regular room), and flights. We are putting together a plan for the ceremony, photographer and reception. We had hoped to keep within a $5,000 budget but it doesn't seem like that's going to happen.. For those of you who don't mind sharing, what range did you end up around for your EDR wedding? We're up to $6,500 with flights, resort, (wishes for) ceremony/reception and legal fees already. No dress/suit... makeup, hair, favors, etc... Oh boy!
