  1. Most of these resorts do SO many of these weddings each day, you can trust that you'll love what you end up with, visit or not! I did do a visit, which was great for determining the food (it was all really good, but we did pick a few things we initially weren't planning to) and the ceremony location. There were some beaches that were more in the public areas that I decided to avoid for the ceremony (to deter gawkers) that I could not tell locations of in pictures. That being said, if you just tell your coordinator what you're looking for, she should be able to get you exactly what you want!

  2. My wedding is Mid January 2013. I sent out save the dates right after we got engaged (Mayish) so people could rally plan. I am sending out invites this month, with a return date by mid October, so they can think about it for a while and I have a little over two months notice. Final payment for us is due early December. With destination weddings, I really dont think there is such thing as too early, or too much notice (or too many reminders!)

I got them as a trial for my wedding when I was recently in Mexico for a week - was in the sun all day, in the ocean, pool, etc. and they stayed on great!

  4. You can wear mascara with both the semi-perm and the daily. The semi perm you don't want to wear waterproof mascara with, as it loosens the glue bond and can make them fall out quicker. Otherwise they just fall off with the natural shedding of your lashes in about 3 weeks. I just skipped the mascara when I was swimming (you don't need it with them), and then used it at night. I think if you were afraid of crying at the wedding, you could probably use the waterproof for one day (or just on the bottom lashes and skip it on the top) and not worry to much about it. those suckers stay on pretty well.

  5. Mine are super blonde, and I have had both temporary lashes and extensions - all in black-black. Neither looked weird at all. The falsies are so much more dramatic that your other lashes just seem to blend in. That being said, I wear mascara with the temporary ones, so they arent blonde when I have them on. With the extentsions I went without mascara a lot though, and you couldnt tell. I got a ton of compliments from those who knew I had them on how real they looked.

  6. Here they are: http://www.amazon.com/Package-Small-Mini-Glass-Stoppers/dp/B004ZXW4MK

Then I just printed little fortune cookie fortune sized notes, rolled them and tied them with raffia, and put them in with a tiny sea shell (I found some on the beck when I was in Playa Del Carmen last but you can buy tiny shells too if you want to add them).

  7. Ladies, HANDS DOWN, the best photographer is Del Sol Photography!!!  They were amazing to work with, and we have gotten more compliments on our pictures than I ever imagined. Matter of fact, our wedding was just featured here: junebugweddings.com/blogs/what_junebug_loves/archive/2012/06/29/romantic-playa-del-carmen-destination-wedding-del-sol-photography-inna-daniel.aspx?utm_source=Real+Weddings%2FEditorial+Features&utm_campaign=a5cb4cd879-RW_WJL_Bride_Groom6_29_2012&utm_medium=email Happy to answer any questions you have regarding our experience with Del Sol! Cheers, inna
Have to agree- I did a TON of research online and on these boards, and in the end, went with Del Sol. Their pictures are incredible, and I can't wait to see mine (wedding is in 6 months so I have a wait!)!!! They may not be the cheapest in RM, but you more than get what you pay for I think, and at the end of all the planning and the big day, the pictures are all you have left to remember it all!
  8. I rocked the individual extensions on my scouting trip to Mexico this summer just to try them out and see how they held up. They were AWESOME. No need for mascara on the beach, but you can wear it for more drama for the big day. They looked upper natural (but glam) and stayed on great despite swimming in the ocean, etc. I paid $125 for mine in Denver, which lasted three weeks and took about 3 hrs. Fills are only $75 if you wanna keep them going after.

  9. Sorry about the links above - it looks like the one brings you to a white dress - which is so not what I was going for.  I liked the green color, but my MIL said last night she looked like she had on a sack when she tried it on.  We did have success though so here are the dresses that my mom and my MIL bought. This is the one my mom got and loves from Banana Republic 1000x500px-LL-41c24b80_BananaRepublicbr834879-00qlv01.jpg And this is the dress that my MIL got from Talbot's (or some version of the same print anyway) with a matching wrap/scarf. 1000x500px-LL-811bf41d_Talbots11036133_4072.jpg Good luck and happy dress hunting to everyone!
My mom's dress is similar to your mom's from BR- she was worried it might be too casual for the occasion, but I'm all for it! The wedding party is wearing cotton dresses and khakis/white shirts, so it will all be casual. Plus it will be HOT!

My day is coming very soon, July 7th and am starting to wrap everything up! Literally. I have a repetitive question that I know has been posted a while back and guess I just want to be re-assured by recent brides about going through customs in Mexico with all the wedding stuff. My FI and I have been trying to do all the research we can to make sure we do all the right things.

Is it true that we can only take $300 in merchandise into Mexico? Why? Is it because they try to eliminate the re-sale of items?

    Is the $300 per person?

    Do we need all receipts?

    No Made in China products?

We are up to 96 guests and have all our OOT stuff. I decided to take on the challenge of getting each one of them flip flops plus other stuff. I got many of them with gift cards, so would this technically count in the $300? (confusion. . .what a pickle).   Also, lots of the things we are taking have been personalized with our names so I just don't think that this items would cause a big fuss, but who knows. . .

    Any input is greatly appreciated!

    Rocio

    Hi Rocio,

It is true that $300 per person is the max (not counting personal effects, wedding dress, etc.), if you don't want to pay duty/customs. You can bring in more, but it gets pricey fast. (And yes, it is to prevent people from bringing in goods to sell in Mexico tax-free). Reciepts will guarantee you don't have to pay fess for anything under $300. Not sure about the China Q or your personalized items. Check this link out for more thorough info: http://www.underwatercolours.com/mexican_customs.html. This is only if you get searched :)

    Hope that helps a little!

For those of you that have already had your weddings (congrats!) what entrees did you choose and do you have any photos of them?  I'm thinking of choosing the beef fillet w/ Dijon mustard and Provencal herbs and the chicken Casablanca stuffed with seafood.  We're definitely going to have the beef as an option, but I'm only 50% sure we should go with the chicken.  I kind of just feel like you need to have a chicken option...

I have to make the decision asap since I'm working on the proof for my invites!

I just got back from a pre-wedding tasting at the Royal and the beef was awesome. Did not try the chicken, but did try the salmon and the jumbalaya shrimp - both were great, but we are going with the beef and the shrimp! I think as long as you have a beef option and a safe other option (menting nothing too crazy - ie chicken or shrimp would both be "safe" IMO, you'll be fine.

Oh, wow. I didn't realize that about the $300 in goods thing. That's per person though, right?? So between my FI and I we could have $600? Hope so!!

Yes, per person, so if you offload to your FI and some friends, you should be fine! Bring reciepts for stuff if you have them just in case you get searched and need to prove the value!

    1. Yes you can bring your own centerpieces... they will set them up for you too.

    2. I think the menu options depends on what package you get. I got the External Romance Package and then added some things but Maritza my WC told me that I could pick from any of the menus except for the buffet. I could get 1 entree, 1 garnish, 1 salad and 1 dessert. If you have more than 1 main course they want you to have some sort of place cards so that the waitstaff knows who gets what. I read that one girl had a seashell sticker on the place cards for everyone who got chicken and then had a starfish sticker for those who got beef.

    3. I got the light up dance floor and DJ Ivan. I am not sure who much light it adds but I paid $700 for the dance floor and $950 for the DJ. Kinda steep but Ive heard that both are totally worth it!!

Hope this helps. let me know if you have any questions

This was SO helpful - thank you so much, and have fun at your wedding!!!! (And if you have any helpful new advice - or things you didnt think of before that would be good to know - after, please let me know!)

I am a worrier too! You and I sound like we are cut from the same A-type cloth!

Shipping to Mexico is pretty pricey. Some airlines (United for sure, but not AirTran - not sure about the others) allow you to have one free checked bag if you fly international. I am checking my stuff I think, and relying on my lovely bridesmaids to help carry stuff through (I'll pay the baggage fees of course). The only thing to keep in mind is customs. If you ship to Mexico, you may have to pay customs fees as well. If you bring them with you in luggage, you can only bring $300 in goods (outside of clothing and personal effects) per person (if you get caught that is) without having to pay customs fees.
