  1. I'm a Riu Ocho Rios Newfie bride to be We went with selloffvacations.com travel agent carol gonzalez. Her prices were the cheapest we found by far. We're going in peak season (march break) Our flights are 1720 taxes in from halifax. Because there are no flights direct out of st. john's we will have to get flights from st. john's to halifax as well but if there are enough you can get a group rate on that too and there are often VERY good seat sales for that leg of the trip (I usually wait for the 49-89$ range) I was also given a quote from vancouver, which I can't imagine would be less then edmonton and it was 1600ish +250 taxes (and that's for peak season). We are also getting every 11th person free.
  2. I'm leaving from Newfoundland March 2014. There are no direct flights from here when we're going (March 3rd) but selloffvacations.com travel agent told me there are flights after March 18th direct from st. john's to the Riu. You're not going to get anything with air canada because its true they don't go to the riu. its only the charter flights that go and once a week. We are leaving the day before from st. john's, booking a flight to halifax through air canada or westjet for that, and leaving at 6am the next day from halifax direct. Our quote from halifax is 1720pp/900 per child and every 11th person is free. That's from selloffvacations.com- our travel agent is carol gonzalez. It was the cheapest I found by a few hundred dollars. If you go in off season though i'm sure it would be cheaper!
  3. Does ayone know if the DJ at the disco will take requests or play songs you want when you rent out the disco for the 2 hours? Also, are you allowed to bring your own tulle and decorations for the wedding gazebo? My dad is a florist and is making all the flowers before hand with real touch silk flowers
  4. Has anyone had the semi private dinner? I'm just trying to figure out if its cramped or really open to everything. When I looked online for pictures I keep finding the same setup for the semi private as for the plantation?
  5. that's good to know! She must have answered me too fast or something because I asked her specifically about the plantation
  6. She answered me back in 2 or 3 days... I put questions in the subject line- not sure if that helps maybe? Or try urgent? Everyone who has gone through it has been saying not to worry about anything- it will all go smoothly when we get there so i'm going to go with that and hope its true lol.
  7. Patricia quoted me 1000$ for the plantation plus 67$ a person :s
  8. I'm bringing my photographer with me! One here in NL who's pictures I know I love so I won't have to worry about them. The travel agent is offering us 1 free for every 10 people booked so we're going to use one of our free ones to bring him down and then his package is 1600. Certainly not the cheapest way to go but I know my pictures will turn out awesome with him So far for welcome package I have a welcome letter done up, along with a sheet of fun facts about jamaica, a list of some of the most popular out trips. I have maps of jamaica that I picked up last time I was there, they're in color and have out trips, taxi numbers and all resorts on them. I thought they were pretty cool! I'm going to pick up small things at the dollar store to add to the welcomme bag like mini sunscreen, bottle opener (when we were down last time we couldn't get the red stripe open because there were no bottle openers in the room lol- was a different resort though) I actually found money belts at the dollar store in the craft section that you can customize if you want to. I was thinking maybe a blow up tube for the water- at least for the kids, and/or a beach ball and maybe a few snacks from costco. For favors I'm getting these mugs http://www.etsy.com/listing/64615617/50-wedding-favor-custom-destination?ref=usr_faveitems from etsy... everyone's always carrying the nice big mugs around when they're down there because at the bar they give you tiny cups- these are so great for the beach! Planning is so much fun
  9. wow thats ridiculous! The resort photographer shouldn't have the right to insist on following you around- especially into your room! And 800$ is an insane vendor fee. If the bahia principe allows this then I don't think I even want to book there...definitely a major turn off
  10. I had my wedding booked for the Riu but its now looking like I might have to change to the bahia because there are no direct flights from st. john's to jamaica before march 16th other then air canada and the riu doesn't deal with air canada! All the information i've been reading here makes me a bit nervous though- sounds like people have been having a lot of problems- we have a friend coming with us who's a photographer and is going to take our pictures- do we have to pay an extra 800$ vendor fee for someone we're already paying to have there???
  11. I saw a picture of the semi private reception on here somewhere and it showed one long table, not a few circular ones unfortunately
  12. Hi! I'm thinking about getting married at the Grand Palladium in 2013 or 2014 I was just wondering if anybody knows if the reception is included in the price of the packages they have or is that extra? I can't seem to find information anywhere on what the reception entails Thanks! Sonya
