  1. I think they are pretty plain. I used http://selenacakes.com/blog/ Photo of cake: http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/560750_10150972489285100_181149409_n.jpg Note that everything on the cake including the flowers were edible.

  3. I guess they might have changed their ways... Have you tried speaking to the management over there? In my opinion, they shouldn't make you have to pay for a private dinner & setup if they do not have the space in the semi-private area. They should accommodate you where they can fit the amount of people.
  4. Hi Kat, It was $1000 to rent out the Pool Deck but unfortunately it rained so we had to move it to the ballroom terrace. We just did the basic package and then paid something like $11-12 a person for the setup. For the dancing, I rented out the Disco area which includes a private bar. I recommend doing this if its available. I think that was around $1000 as well. Most of our guests stayed at the hotel so their dinners were included. I had 5 family member drive in and I think it was around $100 per person. We had the steakhouse menu and everything was delicious. If you need a photographer, I know a really good one in NYC. I paid his way there plus extra for the photos and package and it was still cheaper than paying one in Jamaica. You can see some of the photographs from our wedding here that he took. http://www.patrickchanphotography.com/marsha-and-johnnys-jamaican-wedding-2/ Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other Q's and I'll try to answer them.
  5. Sorry, I don't have a photo from far away on the terrace of the actual wedding. Keisha can send you photo of the terrace though. It was nice since it was covered and blocked the strong wind since it stormed on our wedding day. Luckily we were able to get the photos in before the downpour.
  6. One more thing, with 80+ people you should work with a Wedding Travel Agent. We did and we got something like $1000 off our trip price. Everyone also got a discount. Destination Wedding Travel Planner / Agent is Carmela Hartman. She is AMAZING. One of our wedding photos is on the banner to her site. It's our jumping photo and it was really hard to do in that heavy wedding dress. http://www.facebook.com/pages/In-Style-Weddings-and-Destinations/204438305227
  7. Hi CamHo I had 80 people at a wedding there in May of this year (2012). The wedding was on the beach and the reception was at the ballroom patio. Everyone had a ton of fun so I have no regrets at all. J Tips: Don't have expectations for the wedding. Just go with the flow of it. Its Jamaica and you have to understand that not all of them have had the education that we have had. Some staff are absolutely awesome, but some you have to be more understanding with. This way you won't be disappointed. And you should plan out the itinerary of the wedding and what will happen since Keisha does not help with this. I met with her once for 30 mins to go over the times of the ceremony, reception and dancing plus flowers. That was it. I never saw her again. You need to plan when you want to do the toast, who speaks, what songs to play and when, when to do the garter toss and the bouquet toss. I rented out the night club area which includes the open bar for everyone. I suggest doing that, otherwise you have to pay per person for an open bar. I asked for the toast in the dancing area but somehow we got it in the reception area, so just don't be surprised if there are a couple of hiccups – you’ll still have fun no matter what. The staff were super nice and accommodating – well all except for the check out lady. She was a mean bitter person with an attitude. If you need a cake person, Selena Cakes did mine. She did an amazing job and it was a Jamaican Rum cake with almond paste. She does normal American cakes too. Here’s her website and a link to the photo of my cake. Her blog: http://selenacakes.com/blog/ My cake: note that she makes all the flowers edible.
  8. I will be there April 29-May6th and our wedding is on the 5th. I just got an email that said they canceled my wedding, so I'm trying to get Keisha to fix this. I didn't cancel it.
  9. http://selenacakes.com/blog/about/ This is not the baker at the Riu, but one that is highly recommended. She has photos of her cakes on her website.
  10. FYI - this is one of the best cake decorators in Jamaica. You can see the different ones that she has done for people on her website: http://selenacakes.com/blog/about/ I'm not sure of the prices, but you can always inquire. I'm getting married May 5, 2012 at Riu Ocho Rios.
