  1. The reason I opted for a destination wedding was because planning and paying would be more laid back.  I think we lose sight of why we r getting married and that is how we get stresses.  I refuse to let any of my guests and/or planning stress me out! Happy planning! :)

  2. I am on my quest for a photographer...I am reaching out to Katya Nova.  The sound of no travel fees and custom package to my budget are like music to my ears.  I do not mid paying the hefty $300 fee for them to shoot at the Majestic Colonial but I looking forward to hearing more about "custom packages".  We aren't doing a TTD session, we don't have a wedding party, it's a vow renewal soooo I do not want something super extravagant but still want good quality if that makes any sense. lol

They have just finished launching a brand new website which is absolutely amazing and speaks to Katya and her work perfectly.  Katya and Rob (her fiance) will be moving to the Dominican in October and therefore NO TRAVEL FEES!  They also work alongside one another as a (soon to be) husband and wife team.  I love the idea that we will have 2 photographers capturing our big day giving us twice the angles, twice the reactions and twice the images.  Something really important to me was capturing FIs reaction when he first sees me and my reaction when I first walk down the aisle and I know having Katya and Rob there we will be sure to get this.

I found a lot of the other photographers in the DR very basic, though they captured some nice images I was looking for more of an editorial/documentary style of photography, I find some images to "posed" and not natural looking and it was just not what we were looking for.

If you are looking for a wedding photographer with a unique style to capture your day I highly recommend checking out Katya Nova, she has been a pleasure to work with and even worked with us to create a personalized package to suit our needs and budget.  Photography is not cheap, I learned this quickly in my research but to me it was SO important, it will be the only thing we have to remember our day and I wanting to make sure when I look back on these images I have no regrets!

  3. I plan on grabbing a few advils and sun screens from the dollar section in target which actually come about 5 in a pack.  I am sure I will go over but I am really looking for the best bargains.  I am also trying to do a lot of DIY projects for programs and key holders and/or luggage tags.  I have less than 10 months and I am quickly finding that my "budget" is a "guide".

  4. Sample sales are by appt (which i have...thank God!) but "blow out sales" are super low prices and can get very ugly! LOL

  5. We are having a beach ceremony and def doing OOT bags, just waiting for ppl to make downpayments before I start buying knicks and knacks.  I won't be booking a DJ, instead renting the sound system and having my brother use his ipod and my uncle is a professiong disc jockey on the radio in NYC and we will have him introduce us at the reception at the Wet Bar, which all depends on how many guests we have.  A DJ is not in our budget.sad.gif

We are doing 1PM beach ceremony (Super early...all they had avail).  We will take pics and let guests rest up and meet back up for drinks at 5 then dinner at 6:30PM at the steakhouse, and reception at 8PM.  I think I am super excited about those too.  You have done a great ob with your bags Torilynn! If you aren't using an ipod, what will your friend be using?

We are doing OOT bags as well! I think I am most excited about those!!!!  We have a friend of the family who is coming that will be doing our music.  She has done it for a few events and we didnt want to go the ipod route as we wanted someone "responsible" for it but we also didnt want to spend the money on DJ mannia for 2 hours!

  6. I do not have a wedding party as this is a vow renewal for me and I felt it wasn't necessary.  I must say my hubby who is a laid back kinda guy has also stepped up and helped with giving more than the average"that's nice".  For things like trying on dresses, I will grab a few of my girls and most likely take my mom with me for the actual decision making!  I'm glad you got over it, I was worried at first as well but happy to receive help every so often as opposed to feeling like I must consult with my "wedding party".  Happy planning!

(He even made the final decision on the invite and it's perfect!)
As for the MOH- she's respected my wishes and not tried to contact me. I still don't think she understands that it wasn't the backing out that bothered me as much as it was the tactless way she did it. A mutual friend tried to explain it to her but who knows if it got through. Either way, I'm done with her and it's been less stress ever since.

  7. WOW...I thought we had a lot of ppl to invite.  My husband is one of eight and that would mean, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews, etc. But also, we are from New York City, the captial of the world and EVERYthing is extremely expensive, weddings average 100K here.  This is a vow renewal for us, so something simple with our closest family and friends was the perfect idea!

Always wanted to go to Dominican Republic! There it is! I am so happy with my decision and as some other ppl mentioned...it is YOUR day so spend it YOUR way! Happy planning!!!!

    1.  Ever since I was a child I knew I would get married on the beach (In elementary school I wrote a story once about how I would get married in Jamaica, and now I'm actually getting married in Jamaica!)

    2.  My parents both have 12 siblings and both are youngest in the family.  That means way to many aunts, uncles, cousins, ect!! (We figured it out, there is almost 220 family we would have to invite)

    3.  We didn't want to spend a small fortune on a wedding- our DW is much cheaper (we are paying most of it ourselves)

    4.  My brother had a failed engagement and I seen how much planning and what kind of expenses were involved with an at home wedding and I knew I didnt want that for myself!

  8. We are def using a travel agent.   I only invited 50 ppl (plus their dates or what have you) but I think it is a great central place for ppl to make payments and travel arrangements.  My TA has given my guests a payment plan, spacing it out and giving them ample time to make payments. This is also helping with my plans for reception, OOT bags, etc!  Happy planning ladiesss!

  9. We have been together for 14 years and married for almost 5 yrs.  I think this is more of a celebration of the journey we have been on and we would like to exchange or vows with our family and friends there.  Those that can make it will be there while those who can't won't.  I love how carefree this is!  Can you ladies tell me what you did different from a "wedding".  I do not want this o be like a wedding!

  10. I booked Pastor York back in August for my August 2012 vow renewal ceremony.  We exchanged a couple of emails but he was very pleasant.  I have read nothing but amazing things about Pastor York and I did not have a wedding my first time around so I am looking forward to this being a very meaningful ceremony and I do not think I would get that with a wedding coordinator from the resort.  Happy planning!

  11. Congrats! What app are you using on your phone?? Happy planning!!!! :)

But we are booked at Secrets Maroma Beach for Aug 19-26. I have made the initial contact with the wedding coordinator down there.

I am not really concerned about the whole getting in and out of Mexico. I have found lots of tips on time saving at Customs and checking in. I'm not worried about the actual flight, even though neither my fiance' or I have ever flown. The only thing I am stressing over is the on board-seat situation....

We're flying Continental/United which I am stressing about for sure. I am a bigger girl and I am trying very hard to lose wieght. But with all the negative things I heard about this airline, it stresses me out and pretty much takes the fun out of it. I don't know anyone who has flown this airline before that could give me some input. I have an aisle seat booked, with my fiance' in the middle next to me, I just am worried about the flight attendent being overly picky and making a spectacle. I have never, ever had a problem at the movie theatre or anything else like that where there is a "standard" seat size....

Sometimes I feel I am over looking it but I have no one to really ask lol!!

So if anybody has any tips or stories or advice please don't hesitate to share it!!!! Thank you so much ladies!

  12. I too wanted to keep it under $1000.  My guests are paying $350 for the room and approx $500 for their flights.  This is for 4 days/3 nights.

I had to realize that I can't worry too much about this. If people want to come, they are going to come. It is also a bad economy, so you have to keep that in mind as well.
