I actually decided on Barcelo Maya Palace! I'm still looking around for vendors! BTW do you know what photographer you may using... i have a clear budget in my head but some of the photographers I'm interested in are so expensive, they cost more than the wedding package lol... so idk def need to do more research on my part i guess.

    Hi Annettea,

We work with some pretty spectacular photographers in Mexico - I would recommend you contact Lori at Sweet Fire Photography as she has some amazing rates :)

  2. Hi Norma!

How are the plans coming along? Feeling excited is great, but not overwhelmed! Have you found a resort yet that you are thinking about marrying at? A couple of great properties you should look at are Azul Beach, Azul Sensatori, Grand Sunset Princess and Riu Palace Riviera Maya. Not only are these hotels fantastic for your guests, they have amazing wedding programs that offer brides lots of options. We work quite a bit with these resorts and just love them.

As for the time of year to get married at, we plan weddings year round and find that the weather is what it wants to be! I know that there is the worry of the hurricane season, but in all honesty, we have traveled year round to Caribbean destinations and the weather can be great during the summer months! We'd love to answer any other questions you have - please let us know!

  3. Hi Paige,

Congratulations!!! Hawaii is a STUNNING choice :) We have planned quite a few weddings at really unique locations in Hawaii. Planning a wedding off of a resort does give you a bit more flexibility in really finding what YOU are looking for for your dream wedding, while making sure that your guests are comfortable in what they are paying to attend your wedding! Have a look at our blog for a couple of the weddings we have done in Hawaii. I would recommend looking at:

    Lanikuhonua Cultural Institute

    St. Regis Princeville

  4. Hi Kay!

We have many brides looking for skinny starfish to bring down with them because they are either hard to get in destination, or very expensive. Who would have thought right?! Ebay is a great resource for this and they are very inexpensive here.

  5. We always tell our brides it is never too early to start planning! Giving your guests lots of time to save and plan for time off work means that they will be more then likely able to join you in celebrating your big day! PLUS if your Wedding Date is very specific, they fill up fast - so planning early is always recommended!

  6. We just wanted to give a quick shout out and let you all know that this hotel's wedding planning team & decor vendor are FANTASTIC! We thoroughly enjoy working with them and have planned many spectacular weddings at this hotel! We are currently working on an elaborate affair for 150 guests, and this hotel can certainly handle it!

  7. Along the lines of the massage ideas above, we are noticing a trend with our clients of giving their guests spa credits, vouchers or gift cards as welcome/thank you gifts! It is a fantastic idea if you do not want to have to bring everything down with you, assemble, then pay to have distributed to your guests rooms. Plus, it gives them something very relaxing to do and is really appreciated by your guests who are traveling so far for your big day!

  8. Hi Minley16 :)

How is the planning coming along? $10-15000 is a great budget for a destination wedding! Just remember that location, guest count and what type of events you want to hold will ultimately shape your wedding budget as you move through the planning process. Summer is definitely doable as well, but you will want to start fairly soon in order to ensure that the resort you select has a wedding date available and to give your guests enough time to book off the time work and save up!

Regarding invitations, it is safe to say that approximately 30% of your invites will attend your wedding. This can vary based on the amount of time given to guests and the location you choose, but that is the statistical average! There are some great destination wedding save the dates and invitations out there and here are a couple of our recommendations:

    Minted Save the Dates

    Minted Wedding Invitations

Wedding Paper Divas Save the Dates

    Wedding Paper Divas Invitations

  9. Hi there!

Mexico has become a very well known location for Hindu destination weddings and there are lots of vendors that are experienced in this field. Have you found a resort or selected a wedding date yet? We have planned quite a few Hindu weddings in Mexico (Riviera Maya, Cancun area) and worked with quite a few of the properties for all the important aspects of the Hindu ceremony (including the pre ceremony events). Have you decided to bring your own Pundit, or will you be looking for one in destination? I am sure you have lots of things on your mind!!

We would love to help you further with your Hindu Wedding in Mexico. If you'd like to reach out to us, please feel free by either private messaging us, or send us an email to [email protected]

    Happy Planning!

  10. Many of our brides and grooms keep the 'legal' at home portion to themselves! In destination, they definitely make a 'symbolic' ceremony appear to be legally binding.

I myself had a court ceremony and had my cousin officiate us with a ceremony we had written... though my guests knew it was not legally binding, it was very much my one and only wedding :)

  11. Hi Kelsey,

    Congratulations on your engagement!

There are many amazing hotels you can choose for your dream wedding. However, since you are looking for a child friendly, all inclusive property that will accommodate 100 guests, it will most likely have to be a larger hotel. Therefore, larger hotels will host more than 1 wedding per day. I would suggest looking at hotels that are close to private event spaces off property that accommodate your group size. For example, the Azul Sensatori in the Mayan Riviera is a beautiful Gourmet inclusive, child friendly property, and many of our larger wedding groups choose to have the ceremony and reception at the Marina Maroma. An absolutely beautiful beach front property that can comfortably accommodate a group your size.

  12. Hi Ladies,

You definitely want to give your guests as much notice as possible in order for them to plan and budget in advance for their trip! I absolutely agree that a printed or electronic Save the Date should go out to your guests as soon as you have the hotel, wedding date and pricing for the trip confirmed. I would then suggest setting up a wedding website, where you can update your guests with upcoming events, information about the hotel etc. Keep the website current and use this as a tool to communicate with your group and get them excited about the trip! I would include the website link to your Save the Date.

Formal invitations can be sent out as early as you would like, but at this point, most of your guests will have all the information needed to book!

    Happy Planning Ladies!

  13. Hi Ladies,

Try not to worry too much about guests not booking right away. It is very common for most guests to contact your Travel Agent on the final deposit deadline date to confirm their booking.

We usually tell our clients that 20 - 30 percent of their invited guest list will attend the wedding. If your wedding is not for some time, usually guests don't feel the need to book right away, which can sometimes be discouraging to the bride and groom.

My suggestion would be to continue the planning process with a realistic guest count in mind. Your friends and family will start booking before you know it!

    Happy Planning!

  14. Hi Ladies,

Getting legally married in Dominican is a pretty simple process. We always suggest that our clients contact WEDO http://wedo.com.do/requirements.htm for their document translation.

All requirements are listed right on the site, along with a sample of the single status affidavit. It is never too early to get this process started, but 3 months is plenty of time!

NOTE: I always suggest sending scanned copies of all legal requirements to the hotel 1 month before your wedding in order for the coordinator to confirm that all of your paperwork is in order. Make sure to bring all originals and translated copies to your meeting with the on-site coordinator in destination.

Hope this helps and happy planning!

  15. Hi Ladies,

The private after party at the Grand Sunset Princess is a great option for smaller wedding groups. The private beach receptions at this hotel are only allowed for groups with a minimum of 40 guests. Dana, the charges for children will depend on their ages. Infants are usually free of charge and children are half price. I would suggest confirming this with your on-site wedding coordinator.

  16. Hi Karyc,

I thought I would share some insight since LUXE has planned hundreds of wedding at the Azul Beach. Private receptions at the Blue International Terrace must use the rectangular tables and chairs they currently have in the restaurant. The hotel is rather small and there is no room for them to store all of these tables to bring in rounds for private events. The space lends itself to rectangular tables and really does look beautiful when set up as a private receptions. Keep in mind that you can push the tables together to create tables of 6,8 or 10. I would suggest tables of 8 - 10 each. Hope this helps!

  17. Hi Jade,

You can visit the Lomas Planning Site for most decor related pricing. http://www.weddingsbylomastravel.com/planning/. This is a great way to start organizing your budget!

Regarding your wedding package, you do have to pay an additional fee for the Sky Deck Package. I would suggest opting for the lowest package (Pearl or Silver) and then upgrading your amenities. It often works out to be more cost effective.

    Happy Planning!

  18. Hi Ladies,

There are some amazing photographers in the Punta Cana area that I often recommend. Here are a few suggestions. :)

    1) HDC

    2) Julia Eskin

    3) Steingard Photography

    4) Caribbean Emotions

Many of these photographers are able to customize packages that will fit your wedding budget. Make sure to touch base with your hotel coordinator to see whether there are any vendor penalty fees before booking.

    Happy planning!

  19. Hi Ladies,

First and foremost, congratulations on your engagement! You have picked an amazing property. Majestic Elegance is beautiful.

If you are opting to have a symbolic ceremony in destination, make sure to advise your wedding planner that you want it to look as legal as possible. The ceremonies are virtually the same, so you do not need to worry about friends and family questioning the authenticity. Please note that you will be required to bring proof of marriage to the hotel coordinator in order to have a symbolic ceremony at the Majestic.

Have you considered having Pastor Rick York perform the ceremony? He is a retired Pastor from the US who performs symbolic ceremonies in Punta Cana. His ceremonies are beautiful and he is very flexible with adding any elements you would like to incorporate. His services are an additional cost, paid in cash on the day of the wedding, but, he is well worth it!!

    Happy Planning!

  20. Hi Jencakes21,

There are many ways to stay within budget for your wedding! Here are some suggestions to consider.

    1) Bring some decor elements from home. Printed material, fabrics, ribbon for your bouquet and cake etc.

    2) Ask your wedding coordinator what flowers are local and in season. There are many beautiful fuchsia tropical flowers in Mexico. :)

    3) Consider having a semi-private cocktail party. Have your on-site coordinator recommend a bar that is close to your ceremony site, where your guests can have drinks before the reception.

    4) Rent a sound system for all events and create a playlist for the ceremony, cocktail party and reception. It is more work for you, but will be much more cost effective then live music or a DJ.

    All the best!
