  1. I ordered a lace dress from Topspartner. You can see the dress on pg452. (I am sorry that my picture background was heavily photoshoped since I don't really wanna show my messy bedroom) I like my dress very much as the lace is so soft, flowy and delicate and the beading on the flower is very nice too. Good lace is supposed to be soft from what I heard. http://www.topspartner.com/dress-samples.html If you check out their website for real dress samples, you can see some of their lace dresses too.
  2. I think it depends. I live in Ontario Canada too. Technically if we shop clothes oversea and they are over the value of $20 not made in US or Mexico, we are obliged to pay HST and custom duty. However it also depends on the custom officer who inspects your parcel. I shop online all the time and most of the time my parcel comes through no problem, although occasionally I have to pay tax. I think the best way to avoid paying tax is asking sellers labal the parcel content as gift and declair a low custom value.
  3. As promised, I uploaded the pictures of the original dress as well as me trying on the dress made my Topspartner. As you can see, I think they've done a really good job knocking-off and the dress fits me like a glove. Although I was short, everything on this dress was cut to my proportion and looked so nice on me! I would highly recommend this company to everyone here.
  4. Hi, I've been lurking here for a while. In the past few months I've tried out dresses in local boutiques (including David's and a couple of private ones) and I've made up my mind to order a custom made dress. The main reason for my decision is my petite size (I am 5 feet tall) and that the dress of my dream is a lace dress which is hard to alter. If I am to buy a lace dress locally (I found some really good ones at around $700-1000), it would cost me at least $500 to do alteration. I also would like to buy a high-quality custom made dress so I go through this thread carefully and try to pick a seller that seems promising. Of all the high quality Chinese sellers mentioned in this thread, Jasmine, Shades of Pale, and Topspartner on DHgate caught my attention. Pictures of their sample dresses showed they pay attention to details and use very good material and I decide to go with one of them. Jasmine has hiked up their price recently, and Shades of Pale quoted me a very high price as well. Kathy from Topspartner quoted me a more reasonable price and even agreed to give me a deal if I pay directly through Paypal without going through DHgate. So I decided to go with Topspartner after all the searching. I am really surprised DHgate got so little attention in this thread. http://www.topspartner.com/dress-samples.html The sample dresses they've shown on their website are so beautiful! They also got 100% positive feed back on DHgate. I guess this is probably their price is a higher than most other DHgate seller. But I think you get what you paid for! I've had a good communication with Kathy, and I just received my dress yesterday after one and half month I placed my order. I have to say my dress is astonishingly beautiful. The material and workmanship is so nice that I feel the quality is so comparable to the dress in local boutiques. The french lace is very delicate and soft, and satin layer is heavy all indicative of top-tier material (at least from what I can see). The dress is fully lined and boned (13 bones in total) and fit me like a glove. It also looks so much like the original dress because they've paid attention to details and didn't cut corners. I will post some pictures once I get back home today.
  5. I was really impressed with this seller's version of Maggie Sottero Viera (as you can see in the picture). The price isn't bad either, it's $1780 in Chinese currency (about 272USD) excluding shipping. Do you think I should order from them or from mybigfatbeautifulwedding? Would you comment on the quality of this dress?
  6. Thank you for seconding my voice!! So could someone please comment on the dress quality please? I recently thought about a lot on better communication regarding dress quality and style, so finally I was like "why don't I just look into Chinese commercial website and communicate with seller there in Chinese" since I am very fluent in Chinese. Lucky for me, I did find a small boutique owner whose dress quality seems superb on taobao.com (Chinese ebay site). I chatted with her and she showed me inside the bodice and bottom (with lining and two layers of hard tulle besides the decorative layers). She also adviced me that spring is a very busy season for wedding dress industry in China since lots of couples like to get married in May (there's a one week national holiday in may and nice weather) and they all start to order the dress right after Chinese New Year in Feb. So it's not a really good idea to order in spring (at least until april) and compete with them.
  7. Hi everyone, it's really great that I found this thread and went through it last weekend. Like Bonnie, I am a Chinese-Canadian who spent half of my life here in Canada and earlier half in China. I actually didn't think of buying a knock off dress at the beginning. But when I first visited a bridal store in Toronto I was really pissed off because every sample dress was for someone size 10 and (more importantly) 6 ft tall. I am a really petite person (5ft tall) and doesn't really like the idea of high heels. So the sales person suggested me getting a simple empire waist dress and cutting off the bottom and I really hated that style. I became more angry when I found out David's bridal charged less for a regular sized dress than a petite dress same style. I mean, both regular and petite dresses come in standard sizes,so I don't believe it costs more to make a petite dress. So I decide not to be bullied by the designer lines and shop for a custom made dress. Before I read this thread, I found several different companies offering "high-quality" custom made wedding dress. In terms of quality, I guess I am quite picky because I would like to have my wedding dress properly lined, sewed ,boned with quality material and I don't mind paying a bit more for a custom made. I found www.mybigfatbeautifulwedding.com, a small boutique ran by an American lady who actually has her partners in Chinese factory to make the dress. I think her dresses are beautifully designed and high-quality but they are a little bit more expensive than ordering directly from China (since the boutique owner has to make her money as well). I also heard about millybridal.com. I at first serious thought about ordering from them but I heard lots of horror stories (deadline goes indefinately postponed, poor workmanship to catch up deadline, poor customer service etc etc). Also they recently hick up their price so much to make it comparable to bigfatbeautifulweddingI also personally dealed with storeofdress and buyer100. I don't like storeofdress because the service person was very pushy and always tried to make me choosing the more expensive options. I bought a cocktail dress and color swatch from buyer100 when it's on a sale. I've received the dress and I think the quality was good enough for a cocktail dress but not so for wedding gown (great material, well-structured bodice with 6 bones, properly lined but sewing was uneven). Then I saw all your ladies posting your beautiful knockoff dresses from other suppliers with better prices. But no one is taking picture from inside the bodice and underneath the skirt so I can't really tell the quality. I know you ladies may use the dress for different purposes like TTD so you are not as picky, but I really would like to have an idea. So can someone describe to me the quality of a dress from Monica or Gianinar? Thanks so much.
