  1. When we got engaged, our parents had just left for week long trips to Aruba and Hawaii and we didn't want to tell them over the phone. We had to keep quiet for a week until we could tell them in person. My friends at work knew, obviously, but I made them swear not to say anything on Facebook until I changed my status to engaged.

I really wanted to see how happy my family was for us and I couldn't imagine having anyone find out via Facebook. But, that said...to each her own!

I do agree with BachataBride though, have you spoken to your grandma about it? It might make her feel better if you share the details directly with her.

  2. Well my shoulders turned blistery so I hightailed it to the doctor yesterday. She prescribed prednisone but didn't give me any special creams, just said use aloe or lotion. The aloe, I've found, makes me sticky and tightens the skin even more so I'm sticking with moisturizing lotion, as much as I can tolerate touching the skin. That and Solarcaine, which is a spray.

I learned my lesson, that's for sure, and I'll be taking the rest of the summer to try out sunscreens so this doesn't happen in Jamaica!!

Rolliedelta - unfortunately I don't live in a very big town so no Clinique around here but I'll be on the look out for it on my next out-of-town shopping trip. I'll try but I'm sure this won't be the last time I get sunburned!

  3. I need your home remedies ladies! I was in the sun all day on Saturday and foolishly didn't apply any sunscreen. I have ridiculously fair skin so this was probably the dumbest thing I could do! And I'm paying for it now as my shoulders, chest and neck are on fire and my skin is starting to tighten up.

I tried putting vinegar on the areas on Saturday evening and yesterday I actually started to feel better. I applied aloe throughout the day yesterday but had a terrible night sleep because I couldn't stand anything touching the affected areas.

Does anyone have any remedies to eliminate the tight, burning feeling? I've been taking ibuprofen all along too. It's so bad, I can't even raise my arms up to shave my armpits!!

  4. I hear ya! My FI keeps saying he'll take care of it but I know he's going to wait until November and there will be nothing but thermal lined pants and wool sweaters in the stores! I've decided just go shopping myself and pick out a bunch of stuff that he can try on at home. He has good intentions but he's so busy with work and school (both full time), I just know it'll fall to the wayside if I don't step in! Good luck with your fiance!

yay - I'm so excited to be a part of this! woot2.gif

My travel dates are Dec 31 - Jan 8, Jamaica
  6. Where are all the new year brides?? smile159.gif Surely I can't be the only one!

Just 6 months and counting...how's everyones planning going? My TA took another job, not in the travel industry, so I'll be working with a new girl. But all of our guests are booked so the only thing we need to worry about now is flight changes, and we've already had 3 so far!

I'm getting married in Jamaica so I'm no help with the T&C part of your question but it seems weird the government fees wouldn't be covered during certain months. I'd double check that if I were you...seems fishy.

Have you considered dropping DW.com and going with a more qualified TA? This probably means losing your $50 deposit but it may be worth it to have an experienced professional to help you with the planning.
  8. I'm not sure how crinoline would look under a chiffon dress. When I think crinoline, I think itchy, rough tutu material which you would be able to see the pattern of through the dress...KWIM? When you tried it on in the store on the box/platform thing, how long was the dress? Was it long and hang off and then when you tried it on at home it pooled on the floor? Maybe it needs to be hemmed?

Good grief I hope these darn bridal stores don't have trick mirrors! BangHead.gif

  9. Well who would think to check under "book local tour" to find the photography packages?? Thanks for the heads up! I'm finding all sorts of informative stuff under that category!

I am the 2011 bride and I actually got a voicemail from my WC this afternoon telling me they would honor the promo price on the photography package as long as I book and pay in full by this Wednesday. I will have to thank my TA tomorrow, whatever she did must have worked because they were not making any exceptions at all when we asked a few weeks ago.

  10. I think it'll look fine with the saddle stitch and I'm sure none of the recipients will even know there was another option. And don't forget that you have to mail these...the more pages you add, the higher the postage goes!

Oh and I saw your earlier post about hand writing an "editor style" note page - fantastic idea!!! I can't wait to see pics of the final product.

  11. Okay, I'll be honest. I skimmed the first part of your post and thought you were thinking about doing this for your invitations...like, make a magazine of your relationship through the engagement and then announce the wedding date, location, etc at the end. And my first thought was eh...close family will love it, everyone else probaby not so much.

But...since you're actually talking about a thank you for everyone who actually attended your wedding, I think it's a great idea! Everyone who cared enough to travel to your wedding will certainly appreciate the effort you'll put into it, plus it's a great way to compile pictures for everyone to have and keep instead of throwing it away after a few weeks.

One thing you might want to include is a personalize note in each "magazine", specifically thanking the person/people for coming to your wedding and maybe even mention something specific that you did with them during the trip. I always prefer something personalized vs a generic "thanks for sharing our special day" note.
