  1. I love this!  Let's keep this bumped up - it's fun learning about everyone.

    1. I love anything that has to do with powerpoint.  My dream job would be graphic design or website design but I wouldn't even know where to start to make it a reality.

    2. I have a bad tendancy to overreact about dumb, insignificant things that aren't really worth arguing about and it usually ends up getting me in trouble.

    3. I love tv but I'm not a big movie person.

    4. I can't make a decision to save my life.

    5. I am very proud that at age 29, I have no debt - no car payments, credit cards, student loans, or mortgage.  I would be ok with the mortgage debt one day (hopefully soon!)

  2. Good for you for standing your ground.  I think it's a bit presumptuous to ask to bring a guest to a "traditional" wedding where the cost per person is significantly less than what you are paying, much less to a destination wedding.  So the fact that she asked and didn't like the answer you gave (or the options you offered up)...well too bad for her having to miss your wedding, since her flavor of the month won't allow her to attend if he can't tag along.

Don't let one rude guest get to you - your wedding will be great with or without her there.

  3. Help!  I can't choose between 2 bouquets and all my family and friends are deadlocked. smile35.gif

My wedding colors are purple and orange. I've decided to go with a combination of orange, purple and white calla lilies and orchids (among bouquets, boutonnieres and corsages) and I'm ordering them through wedideas.com.

Option # 1 (reverse colors though)

Option # 2 (probably minus the green things sticking up all over)

For reference, the MOH will be wearing purple and this is her bouquet:

My dress is strapless, sweetheart neckline, chiffon and flow-y.

    So what does everyone think?

  4. I just realized we have to change terminals during our layover at JFK.  We arrive at terminal 3 and leave from terminal 4, with only 61 minutes between flights.  I've never traveled through JFK - does anyone know how long it'll take us to get to the other terminal?  My TA said we'd have enough time but I was told that one other time (flying through Newark) and, of course, I missed my flight.  Do we have to get our bags and go through security and all that again?  I remember reading you only have to do that on one leg of the trip but I can't remember if it's coming or going!

Delta changed the schedule to make our flights closer together (originally we had something like 110 minutes) so I would have to assume it's do-able if they made the change.......right???

  5. Have you considered fake flowers?  I'm going through wedideas.com and they have a pretty good ready-to-order section.  I think there's a rush order charge but you might still be able to get an order in.  Even with the rush charge, you won't have to pay anywhere near $2k.  Probably more like a couple hundred dollars.

    Hello,

I've been asking for a few months now but never seem to be added to a list. I am getting married in Punta Cana on November 13th. Would anyone be able to add me to their list? I would greatly appreciate it!!

    Thank you so much!!

Have you tried to PM the owner of a specific starfish (one that your dates fit into) and see if you can be added?  You might get a better response that way.

  7. Destination weddings are so great because there's not much I have to do!  Well I do have to order my (real touch) flowers...I guess I better get on that pretty soon.

My mom is already planning my shower and it's not for another 3+ months!  And I'm hitting up every summer clothing sale I come across.  By the time we leave, I'll have enough clothes to last me a month in Jamaica.

I'm so excited...I looked at the clock yesterday at 3:15 and realized in exactly 5 months I'd be saying "I do"! smile123.gif

  8. I got that same sales push too.  I'm getting married at Sandals and am dealing with Amy the WC in Miami.  Initially she tried to sell me on the Vision in White package with the full 3 hr reception even though I told her that we didn't want any of that.  I finally just said I'd think about it and let the whole subject drop.

I read about a photography promo package being offered to 2010 brides if booked by a certain date.  When I inquired about extending that promo to me, being that my wedding is only 2 days into 2011, I was swiftly denied without so much as an apology.

In sticking with the BB wedding, I asked about getting an arch/canopy/chuppa on the beach for the ceremony and was told it would cost $600 (for 15-20 minutes)!

Not huge deals in hindsight, but I was a bit perturbed at the time.  After reading a lot on this board and the Facebook page, I've learned it's a little challenging to customize the wedding packages due to the Martha Stewart trademark but Sandals is beginning to offer more options.  Since you still have 10+ months until your wedding, there's probably a good chance they will have even more options than what they have now.

Are you working with a TA?  It seems like sometimes they can and do get information prior to it being released to the public.  In fact, I think there is a flower catalog that won't be released on Sandals' website until September but some TA's who specialize in Sandals/Beaches Weddingmoons have already received it.  Or if you prefer to handle things yourself, you can just keep checking in with the WC in Miami.  Sooner or later she'll get the hint that you're not going to buy anything you don't want.  Also, the WC's probably prioritize the weddings that are coming up sooner rather than focusing on us who are still months away.  Not to say we're any less important but lots can change on their end in 6 months.

Good luck!  If you're anything like me, you just want to get the details squared away.  I've had to relax a bit over the past few months!!  cool.gif

  9. I wear my ring through it all except like Lua said, when I'm cooking with my hands.  And when I'm slathering lotion on myself.  I'm so darn forgetful that I know I would totally lose my ring if I took it off each time I washed my hands or anything like that.  I do slip it over the knuckle to dry my finger, though.  And I have a terrible habit of slipping it on and off randomly throughout the day.  I really need to stop doing that...huh.gif

  10. I haven't read through the entire thread (I will when it's not time for bed!) but I wanted to share my favorite crockpot website.  (Apologies if it's already been posted...)

    http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/

It was much more active back in 2008 as the author was cooking 1 meal each day in her crockpot for the entire year but all the recipes are archived and fully searchable.  All of the recipes are gluten-free (which is fantastic for all those Celiacs out there, like me!) but can easily be made with gluten-y ingredients.  One of my favorite recipes is Brown Sugar Chicken:

--12 boneless, skinless chicken thighs, or 6 boneless, skinless breast halves
    --1 cup brown sugar
    --1/4 cup lemon-lime soda
    --2/3 cup vinegar
--3 cloves smashed and chopped garlic
    --2 T soy sauce
    --1 tsp ground black pepper

    place chicken in the crockpot

cover with the brown sugar, pepper, chopped garlic, and soy sauce

add the vinegar, and pour in the soda (it might bubble a little bit at this point...that's ok)

cook on low for 6-8ish hours or on high for 4-5ish hours.  It's ok to use frozen chicken, just adjust the time accordingly.  (The chicken is done when it is cooked through and has reached desired consistency. The longer you cook it, the more tender it will be.)

serve over a bowl of white rice with a ladle full of the broth.

totally not a stupid question!  I wondered the same thing too and read that some (most?) people keep the flowers in the boxes they were shipped in and pack it directly into your carry-on suitcase.  The flowers will already be packaged for travel via the mail so they should hold up no problem in your suitcase!

  12. We're getting married on a Sunday at Sandals Royal Caribbean.  As far as I know, the only days they don't do weddings are holidays (we tried for New Years Day but had to push to Jan 2.)

As for the traditional stuff, you can just have the ceremony and call it a day.  You don't have to do anything after you sign the marriage certificate/license thingy and say I do!

  13. First off, welcome to the forum! welcome.gif This is a fantastic resource so spend some time looking around and reading reviews, etc and soon enough you'll have a ton of ideas!

I'm not sure when the best time to get married in the Caribbean (if there even is a "best" time) is but I've always thought to stay away from hurricane season and school vacation/spring break seasons.  We're getting married in January in Jamaica where the average temp is 80 degrees.  We didn't pick January for any specific reason, it just so happened to work out that way.  Of course, this is a subjective opinion because since we live in the northeast, we could encounter a nor'easter on the day we leave just as easily as a hurricane could hit the island we're at!

If you're trying to figure out prices and which location would be best for you, check out Sandals website and run some rates to get an idea what price range each resort is in.  When deciding on my location, I took travel time into consideration.  Initially I wanted to get married in Antigua but it would have taken twice as long to get there as Jamaica so I had to compromise.  I didn't want to spend the better part of 2 days traveling, nor did I want that for our guests either.

Do you have a TA?  They might be able to help steer you in the right direction.

You will get mixed answers about making a reservation at one of the restaurants.  It's really hard to get a definite answer until you arrive at the resort.  It seems to go by availability and booking a butler level room may help get you a better table.  The WC's in Miami (who you will be in contact with up until you travel) will tell you they cannot guarantee a large group together.  You might be ok if you only have 10 guests (we will have 10 and are taking the chance to get a table together) but if you are going to have more like 20 people, you might want to consider the private reception.  Once you book and are put in contact with the WC, they will provide a booklet of the options.  Basically you can choose anything from a 30 minute cocktail hour for $15/pp all the way up to a full 3 hour reception for $75/pp.

Sorry to be so long winded.  I've learned a lot in the past few months just by reading about other brides experiences, on here and on the Facebook page (Fans Who Love Sandals Weddingmoons).  Sandals isn't as popular as some of the other resorts on this board so sometimes the info is hard to come by!
