  1. Heather, if you could scan your receipt and email it to me, that would be amazing! I'll use the extra money to buy some rope lights! They looked great in your photos.

Hey Heather, do you have any emails from Yanna or Tiara conirming the 3$ price. Did they give you a discount because you had a lot of people? I will have 23 people. If you have any paperwork that has the $3 on it, I would really, really appreciate it if you could email it to me: [email protected]. BTW, your gorgeous photos were a huge deciding factor in going with a beach reception. Did they already have the trees lit up like that?
  3. Hey ladies, I've decided to change our reception to the beach from the SSG. I'll be saving a few hundred dollars and right now everything helps, right? Only thing is, Yanna is quoting me $8 plus 26% for the open bar per person. I seem to recall other people mentioning a lower price. Can anyone confirm this or let me know what they were quoted for the bar? Thanks Andrea

Hi dcairns, Welcome to the forum. I'm so sorry, the document was a bunch of photos of the SSG and I can't seem to find it anymore. I'm certain there are more photos around this thread but I know the search is going to be exhaustive. I think I also did a google images search for Dreams la Romana Seaside Grill and found photos on the web too. Good luck with anything and if you want any other photos - I have photos of flowers and cakes, let me know!
  5. AAAAAAHHHHHH!!! I've been off the forum for a couple of months and it has taken me all night to catch up. CONGRATS!!!! to all the lovely ladies that got married in my absense. You all looked stunning! Wow. I'm 2 weeks aways from my wedding and I feel really overwhelmed right now -- probably because I'm overthinking everything. I've got most of my planning done except my centerpieces. I had ordered manzanita branches and the ones I ordered are horrible and now the company is saying it's going to take to long to get the new ones. I'm rethinking --- I love the idea of the masonry jars with shells so I just may go in that direction. Also, now I'm thinking of switching from the SSG to the beach. Petals, can you send me the pricing info? We originally thought we would have 30 people but now it's only 22 so I'm not sure if renting the whole SSG will be worth it. Leslie and Gem!!! You're next! Good luck!!! Now I'm going to bed!
  6. Hey Jenne, Can you please pm me your facebook info so I can also see the photos. I just re-read your review. You looked so great!
  7. Jenne, Congratulations again. You look so radiant. Gorgeous! I'm so glad it all went well. Quick question. Did you give her a photo of the cake you wanted or did you just ask for 2 tiers and they did the decorations?
  8. Ahhh, Amy, MayBride and Jenne, Congrats on everything. I really hope it was everything you imagined. Havent't read the review yet Jenne but I'm heading there next. Tiara, thanks for coming on the forum and I apologize if you thought any of our frustration was directed at you. I think we're all just frustrated by the amount of work (ask my fiance ... he just calls me grumpy now). Budgeting for any wedding is sometimes insane and it's unfortunate that you are the one who has to hand us the prices, even though you had nothing to do with setting them. In any case, I know you've accomodated many of my requests so for that I thank you.
  9. Believe me, I'm trying to bring what I can with me too. I actually was emailing back and forth with Tiara last night. She actually answered me three times back to back before disappearing. So yes, the arch, including all the flowers is 175. Although the flowers were daisies so I would much rather have another flower, like roses or lillies. I asked her if she had photos of arches with other flowers and that's when she disappeared. oh well. It was good while it lasted. I am still looking into bringing a portable canopy myself. Hopefully I'll find something. I get that they have to charge for some things, but a canopy that they probably have stored in a back room and it would take their staff half an hour to move --- that CAN'T cost $850. There's no reasoning. Oh well, at least I know that getting one from there is no longer an option.
  10. Also ladies, I just tried to confirm with Tiara that the wooden Chuppa is $350 and she responded that it is actually $850 - HAAAAA! The decoration is $350. That's insane! I guess there goes that idea. Does anyone have photos of the "natural arches" that they have and what is the price for that again?

But I ended up writing something a little more meaningful than the one she sent me. Plus she sent me a Renewal of Vows script - we're not renewing. Even if the english isnt great, I don't want to pay and I will print a copy for guests to read during the cocktails or something. We're doing our own vows and a few of our guests will do readings. I have asked Tiara to do a short intro and to say the words "I know pronounce you husband and wife." and she has agreed to do that for free.
  12. I just found out from our wedding coordinator that the hotel charges $850 for a wooden canopy -- and that's without the decoration. That's too pricey for me. Has anyone seen any portable canopies or chuppas that people can bring with them? I have a lot of luggage space so that's not an issue. Thanks
  13. I'm going to take some extra lanterns too. I've stopped planning the LR wedding because I've been focusing on getting the AHR settled. And finally ... we actually got my dream location ... for an affordable price. Those of you in Toronto -- we're having the reception at Ultra (formerly Ultra Supper Club), which is one of the hottest / trendiest places in the city. Through a lot of luck, we happen to know a few people who know the owner and they gave us a deal. So we'll be putting the downpayment this week and I can finally send out the invitations. It's sooo exciting that everyone's day is coming up!!!
  14. by the way, Thanks Bridget! Your review was SOOOO helpful. So now, based on the last few pages of comments, I am thinking I will write out a list of everything that has been agreed to with Tiara and send it to her the week before the wedding (and I will take a folder with all our correspondence). And I will create my own timeline and send it to her to follow. I'll also designate a friend to help us stay on track. We only have about 30 people too but I don't want to be worrying about everything that day! BTW, my fiance just found that WestJet is having a sale for this summer going to Dreams La Romana - around 1300 with tax Just wanted to let you ladies know -- check out the website (I'm not sure if it's just from Toronto)

They are going to look really nice on the tables...are you having yours at the SSG? We are having our reception on the beach...I am just going to go with the sand and water as my decorations, lol=) Hey Gem, I'm hoping to take my decorations with me - branches and dried flowers. Hopefully I won't be stopped at the airport, because I do not want to be paying $75 for the hotel centrepieces.
  16. Hey Gem, My colours are white and natural - i.e. raffia, starfish decorations and white manzanita branches with orchids for centerpieces. I have 40 large starfish and am now thinking I should have bought more ... I will have one on the back of each chair, along with tulle. I just love the idea of natural colours.
  17. except not that formal ... I'm just trying to show that if you cover the metal poles well, you'll never know they're there.
  18. from this ugly tent, to something like this... Ok, ladies... I'm on a mission! Looking for a cheap collapsible tent. I'm gonna make this happen. I can absolutely use the $350 elsewhere!

So when it says in the complimentary list "use of the gazebo and beach front area" Where exactly do you get at the beach front area? Because you pay for an arch you pay for the guppa and you pay for the wooden frame?? Sorry for yet another rant but the costs of this are just adding up and up and up and Tiara either doesn't answer or gives different answers!!!! I hear ya. Everything is always an expense. But, now you ladies have me thinking. And I hate giving up on anything. So ... What if we got one of those collapsible tents and replaced the tarp with nice white tulle or flowing material and also wrapped the metal poles in the same material. It would cost about $100 I'm thinking. Here's a net I just found, but I'm sure we could find something better if we looked ... And ladies who are down there around the same time, if anyone's interested, we could always share in the cost
  20. glad to help. You should still get it in writing yourself ... just in case
  21. Here's an email I found from Tiara: My email: "Hi Tiara, Hope you are well. As you may recall, I am getting married on July 14 at 5:00 p.m. and we have booked the entire Seaside Grill for 6:00 p.m. Will people be able to order drinks from the SSG bar for a half-hour or so until we take our photos? I am assuming since we have rented out the entire restaurant that there will not be an additional cost for our guests to drink from the bar? Please confirm this" Her response: "The bar is included on the price. Best regards,"

You will not be charged at the SSG.
  23. Hey ladies, I should know better than to be away from the forum for a couple of days. I'm always playing catch-up. Lizzy and Gem, I'm so sorry you're having issues. I've been pretty lucky with my family. The only person who's giving me a huge hassle is my so-called best friend who has made every excuse in the book to not even talk about the wedding ... she had a baby in the fall and is worried that there could be another world-wide flue epidemic. And God forbid I mention that she leave the toddler for a few days so she and her husband could come. I swear she thinks she's the first woman ever to have had a baby. All this after I threw 2 showers for her wedding and paid crazy money to go to NYC for her staggette. Whatever. I've stopped talking to her about it altogether. My fiance and kids will be there and everyone else is just a bonus. As far as the bar costs. I'm fairly certain that is only for the beach because they don't have a bar open on the beach in the evening. Those of us renting the SSG will not pay extra. I'm getting married on the beach and we thought of tikki torches too but then realized it won't be dark yet so it will look odd. I just bought tons of starfish so I will put those on the back of chairs and my mom is going to make some sashes and that will be that. We'll also get the wooden arch for $350 and decorate it ourselves. Amy, I'm so excited that your day is coming up so quickly!
