I'm thinking of trying to find a caterer in the area that offers these types of platters...maybe even antipasto type platters? I think if we have the party around 7pm on a Saturday and mention on the invites that appetizers and alcohol will be served that people will eat before they come. Between moving in January and the wedding in April we're so tight on cash we just can't offer a full dinner or pay to rent out a venue. Carrie, I like the idea of appetizers and drinks and then everyone can eat beforehand. That's what we are wrestling with... we live in between Montreal and Ottawa. My friends are coming from Montreal but if I have this evening party, it's a long drive home. We wanted the AHR because we didn't think so many would be able to make the wedding. But now we are close to 40 going and that's mostly family! Neither one of us have a big family either.. but my cousins are coming with spouses and kids so that's good. Now to please everyone else at home, we may just call it a garden party and have it in the early afternoon. We want a tent, but there again all of that adds up! To all the gals fighting with their sweeties... its probably the stress of it all coming to a head. I love planning so I just basically tell my FI what's going on, what I have done so far, etc. He seems pretty cool with it all. I bought the favours and OOT bags over a period of a few months this summer. I told him yesterday... thought it would be best to tell him the stuff is already bought so he wouldn't panic as the money was coming out of the account! Ahhh the things we have to do to keep them calm! I have a question for any of you ladies who do not have your Dad anymore. My Dad passed away many years ago and I just lost my Mom this summer. That was one of the reasons we wanted to do something totally different for our wedding. A nice change of scenery. I asked the only Uncle I have left to walk me to the beach aisle. Any one have any suggestions for a "uncle-niece" dance? Can't use the father daughter songs, they just don't work for this situation. Any ideas?
  3. Thanks Tracy! I don't want to be left out of all this excitement! I just spent the last half hour catching up! Someone had asked about at home reception... I am planning one in June and FI really wants to have it under a tent in our yard (which is a huge property). The only problem for me would be the food. He wants us to serve hors d'oeuvres and such but we have one oven! So I like the legion idea or there is a community center on our street... maybe with a bit of decorations, this would be better? What's everyone's opinion. I would love to have people at the house but wonder if it's really feasible. Since most of my Montreal friends are not going to be at the wedding, I think we are looking at around 100 or more for the party here. What's the consensus girls?

She kept on telling me that I didn't know what I wanted, but it was the opposite I did know and she didn't have what I wanted!!! eurghh!!!! anyway the first store at the corner, was good, I know a few people that bought there dresses there and got a good price for them. It's worth looking for sure. I got lucky for my dress, there was a sample sale from baroness bridal last june near the St-Laurent shopping center, the hotel beside the link's stadium and found my dress there. let us know how it goes for you, good luck on finding your perfect dress Okay Gals... I found it! Not in Moose Creek (and I know exactly which lady you guys got... she tried to get me to order bridesmaid dresses in white instead). Anyhoooo....went to Montreal and found it at Sposa Bella. Its gorgeous... exactly what I wanted with Ruffles and flowers... and i ended up getting ivory -- it just looked nicer on me. I get it in March. Now we just have to get the bridesmaids organized and the FI and gang. And the great news this week.. we have close to 40 booked! Yahoo!!!
  6. Bholthof, I am in Ottawa and wanted to get mugs but haven't yet. Where were you thinking of ordering from?
  7. Hi Gals! I haven't been on here for a few weeks and boy did I miss a lot! Still trying to catch up on reading all the posts. I received the new Gazebo photos from my TA and I agree...totally beautiful and now I may switch from the beach to that gazebo. CarribeanLover, I was also going to have the beach reception but was a little concerned about how the aunts and uncles could dance in the sand so I asked my TA and she arranged for me to have the reception part (after the meal) at the Bohuvia (?) which is directly on the beach and they can set it up for dancing, dj, etc. It would be the same price $9 per person and I will get the dj. Also, wanted to remind all the turquoise/aqua brides that I am getting chair sashes and will gladly share. My wedding is the 12th and I leave there on the 21st. Still working on decor. I also want to get paper lanterns and dont feel like carrying any glass or anything too heavy because I have OOT bags and contents, plus the favors and the usual stuff! Have been dress shopping every weekend but haven't found the perfect one yet. Discovered 2 stores in Moose Creek which is not too far from Casselman. Going there tonight or tomorrow. Anyone been there?
  8. I forgot to mention... our reply card gave guests the choice of the Dominican wedding or the June AHR. We had this on the reply card: ACCEPTS WITH PLEASURE DECLINES, BUT WILL WAIT FOR THE JUNE CELEBRATION

We may have our AHR in our yard as we have a huge country lot. Because we were unsure of the exact date for the AHR, my wedding invitations mentioned the following: A CELEBRATION OF OUR UNION WILL ALSO TAKE PLACE IN OTTAWA IN JUNE 2010. DETAILS TO FOLLOW. Hope that helps!
  10. Hi Gals... count me in on meeting each of you! I am there from April 7th until April 21st.
  11. Ottawa Bride, I am using Julie at Anne Travel as well. She is wonderful. I think I will just email her my thoughts and have her talk to Carolina directly. She did tell us she will translate our documents too. Someone mentioned to me that you need to get a marriage license here to bring with you. Is that only if being married in a church? I am getting married on the beach (or who knows now, with all the talk about the great new gazebo!) My sisters is in Barrhaven and I was THERE last week! Small world. She is off of Rideaucrest. Anyhow... everything done for the big day? You age getting married in just a few weeks!!! How exciting!!! Dawn
  12. Hi Girls! Our wedding is in Punta Cana at the Grand Palladium April 12, 2010 and then we are having an at home reception in Ottawa (actually under a big tent in our yard in Bourget, Ontario) in June. Lots to plan but I have great ideas to share. What is everyone else doing?
  13. CaribbeanLover, You look beautiful! What a gorgeous dress. You bought it over a year ago? Yikes... I better get my butt in gear! As for the sashes for the chairs, as soon as I order some, we can figure it out. I know you said that Military Mrs has her wedding the same day, but I think I have to buy 50 or 100 sashes (which I could use later for the at home party since its under a big tent here at the house and lots of people are supposed to come). If thats the case, I think it looks nice if only every 2nd chair has a sash. So I have about 30 guests coming (that are confirmed... maybe one or two more, but I doubt it), so we can just split up all the sashes later. We'll figure it out!
  14. I honestly do not mind at all. I just have to find them first! Like I said, I have to go dress hunting with my sister (MH) so we can find the perfect colours and then find sashes to match as close as possible. We can arrange all with Carolina when we are there too. Or we all get together for a drink and make a list of what has to be transfered to the next wedding!
  15. Hi CherryBomb! Thanks for the reply and for posting the link to the docking station. I printed it out and will definately have to check that out. I haven't heard from Carolina ever (and I wrote to her over 2 weeks ago) but I guess she is extremely busy. Yes... I better get dress shopping! And I think it will be even more important to know the exact colours of the BM dress because we want a turquoise, but probably more tiffany or oasis colour. There are sooooo many versions of turquoise I am finding! I did my invitations the a turquoise crystal embellishment and ribbon. The ribbon was from Michaels and has some green turquoise in there, vs blue turquoise. Before I get sashes, I think we will have to get the dresses picked so that i know which shade to go with. As I mentioned before, ANYONE who needs chair sashes in an aqua/tiffany/turquoise shade, I will get some and would be happy to pass them along. I would love to have them back for an at home reception (I might use them as table runners if possible), but I have no problem lending them out (even if your wedding is the following week). I am there until April 21st. I love this site! So many wonderful ideas.
  16. Nonnie, the sashes with starfish look amazing! Great shopping and great craft skills! I am waiting until I find the BM dresses to determine exact colours since I am going with turquoise/oasis shade and the tint of green/blue really can differ. I haven't shopped for my dress yet! Has anyone bought their dress for April? Am I outrageously behind? I am in the same boat for the reception. Bringing my iPod but not too sure how all of that will work. Don't want to be up and down flipping through music so maybe I will ask a cousin or someone to help out during the evening. Caribbean lover, since my wedding is the evening before yours, maybe we can touch base at some point and I will let you know how things worked out! Trial by error (ugh). I guess this means I need to bring a bulky docking station. I think I will leave my music worries until the end.... yep... that'll be the last thing I work on. Have you gals finished your OOT bags? Or are you doing those? I bought the coolest, prettiest bags on ebay! They arrived recently and I was thrilled with the quality... so much more vibrant and larger than anticipated. I thought they were small but figured I would give one to each female guest and a different bag for the men, but these are roomy enough to put two of several items (mugs, room key holders, etc.) in each one so the couples can share them. As soon as I have the contents together I will post photos. Anyone else working on OOT bags?
  17. Just wondering if you still have these silk boxes available? I may have a use for them. Not for invitations, but for something else.
  18. CaribbeanLover, Yes, we will be having a legal ceremony with the judge at 6 pm. Thats strange that you couldn't do yours in the evening. Now you have me worried! Before we booked anything, we had our wedding planner/travel agent find out when the ceremony could be and thats the date and time she gave us.
  19. I know that there are several of us getting married the week of the 12th (with a few on the 13th). Is there anyone else on the 12th? I am getting married at 6 pm. Anyone else getting married that day?
  20. Ottawa Bride, You will definately have to tell all of us how everything goes, what venue is best and post photos. Where are you in Ottawa? I am just outside of Rockland. You must be getting extremely excited!!
  21. We are staying a second week at the Grand Palladium too. It will be so nice to spend time with family and friends and then have our honeymoon!
  22. Does anyone have pictures of a beach ceremony they can send me. Also pictures of the centerpieces. I emailed Carolina this week because I have not been in contact with her at all. I was told through the travel agent/planner that my wedding is confirmed for April 12 at 6 pm. Now that we have over 30 confirmed, I want to plan the dinner, etc. Not sure what will be available so I have to speak with Carolina. If anyone has any pictures of ANYTHING (even the reception set up) that would be great. Then I can decide if I bring some added decor, although I don't want to be lugging tons of extras there if she has something. Also, anyone near my wedding date is welcome to share whatever I use. CaribbeanLover, we spoke of this already. Thanks everyone for any photos of info. you can share (my email is [email protected])
  23. I'm in Ottawa... getting married at Grand Palladium Punta Cana in April 2010. Have ordered the neatest OOT bags but have yet to purchase decorations or OOT bag contents. Have you gals gotten together yet?
  24. Military Mrs. To Be... I am getting married the day before you! I noticed that you are also having the at-home reception. Are you having immediately upon your return? I am just curious because we are probably having ours in June under a tent in the yard (we have about an acre of land and are expecting a lot of people) What are your plans? Dawn
