I will be going by there for a site tour next week. I wanted to make it over there this past week but it was rather impossible to during Valentine's Day being that I am in the Floral Industry and all.
Have you had a chance to see the property yourself? I am very curious!

Welcome to the Forum! July is a very inexpensive month for a Key West Wedding!

May is by far my favorite month here in Key West, good choice. If you have any questions about the area feel free to ask me.

I am going up to the Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm area at the end of the month, to pick up supplies for my florist here in Key West. I will be sure to keep my eyes peeled and my ears open and see what good information about that area I can find out through some of my contacts.

There are a lot of things to do in Key West that don't cost a dime and would be great suggestions for an itinerary for your guests, if you go to the Key West Chamber of Commerce they have a community events & festivals page where you can select the month of May to see an expanded month view of every event going on down here.
If you are leaving it up to your guests to find their own accomodations, my best suggestion is have them contact the Key West Innkeepers to find them the best prices and locations for them to stay within close proximity of your ceremony and reception.
Another alternative to the Rum Barrel could be the Conch Republic Seafood Company (restaraunt) located right on the water at the Historic Seaport, just one block over from the Rum Barrel. It is a very laid back venue with a nice set up for you and your guests.

It's a lot cheaper to fly into Fort Lauderdale and there is a great Hotel on the beach, called the Grand Pelican. Fort Lauderdale on the beach is a lot like Key West, they even have a sloppy joe's and a pretty good strip of bars as well as a shopping district with a ton of shops catering to Brides (Las Olas). Its a much more casual place than South Beach. But I think in either option you should still pick the place that is going to work the best for you.

Key West and the Keys are great for weddings, if you have any questions about the area feel free to ask me there are so many different options down here.

I have lived in Key West my entire life and I have almost a decade of experience in the field, so if you are thinking about Key West I would be more than happy to answer any wedding related questions you might have.

...Karol's shop is right next to mine.. Her cakes are the best! I just had one for my Birthday last month, a white chocolate cake with chocolate ganache and a beautiful blue ribbon fondant..
