  1. Hi Heather! I actually went to Atlantis about 7 years ago with my parents and my brother and it was BEAUTIFUL! Granted it was a family trip so it was a different environment than what you're going for, but I could definitely see it as a romantic place! I remember the ocean being pretty cold when we went in early March, but they have so many pools around the resort that you really don't have a problem with lack of water to relax in! The waterslide through the shark tank is awesome and you should definitely try it out! There are just so many neat things about this resort that even after 7 years I still remember very clearly - like the casino and the food! I do remember the service wasn't always with a smile, but I'm sure that has changed! One thing I like to do when researching a hotel in addition to BDW (cuz it's the best!) I usually just check out the hotel on youtube.com. A lot of times you can get guest videos which give you an unbiased look at the rooms, the pools, the beach, etc. Just a thought! Good luck in your planning!
  2. HELP! Okay, so I had searched high and low for the perfect resort for my and my fiance and really thought we had found it at Eurostars Blue Tulum! I was so excited to work with Angelina who responded RIGHT away to emails and would even CALL me from Mexico - and not to return my calls but to reach out to me! WOW! I was in heaven when I set my date for May 23, 2009 and was moving on to things like photographers when I get the shock of my life (okay maybe overly dramatic, but pretty darn close!) I receive an email from Angelina at midnight last night saying that all weddings after April 15th, 2009 are CANCELED and need to be rescheduled to before this date!!! The most frustrating part is that she really won't explain why! I am fluent in Spanish so all my contact with her has been in Spanish and all she says is that it's because they are changing the administration. I said, that's great but why does that mean my wedding gets canceled?! And she doesn't say anything - just well that's what they're telling me to do, etc. etc. So I hate to be suspicious of people, but honestly at ths point I can see only two explanations: 1) The new administration wants to close the hotel during low season (which I can understand, but why not just tell me that's the reason?!) 2) Angelina is maybe being let go from the hotel and she wants to make sure she gets the commission from my wedding? I'm so flustered right now and don't know what to do! As you can imaginem my Save the Dates went out, my flight has been booked as well as several of my other family members, and I had already asked for that week off from work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I'm just freaking out! Thank you. Claudette
  3. Hello ladies! I have been reading a lot of reviews about the Valentin Imperial and was wondering if any of the brides who have been married there have pictures! Or if any of these who did the site visits have pictures, could you please send them to [email protected]? I (like I'm sure most of you!) have been having such a hard time finding "the perfect" resort that is also within the budget for our guests! Any information/advice/recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! Claudette
  4. Thanks for all the warm welcomes! You are all so sweet! So glad that this site exists! Don't know what I'd do without all this information! Such a great resource and such wonderful people!
  5. Hello ladies! I was planning on getting married at BlueBay Grand Esmeralda, but based on the limited contact with the WC there (um, NO contact!) and negative reviews of the murky water, I have decided to change resorts and am strongly leaning towards the Gran Bahia Principe group! Now the decision becomes which one of the three?! I have heard great reviews about all 3. I want to get married directly on the beach, so I think it's important to see which one has the nicer beach set-up. Would those who have pictures of their beach ceremony, kindly email me them? [email protected]. Also, I would like to have the newer rooms...how are the rooms in Tulum? I hear they are a bit older and need updating. Akumal seems the newest (?) and has better rooms. How about Coba? Price-wise, Akumal seems to be more expensive. Do you girls think it's possible for FI and I to stay at Akumal and get married on the beach there while our guests stay at Tulum/Coba or does everyone in the group have to stay at the same hotel? Any information would be so greatly appreciated! I know we switched kinda late in the game - I hope we can get our wedding date! Just waiting to hear from the WC (I only emailed Tulum at this point until we make a decision on which of the 3). We will be getting married legally before we go, so it will be a symbolic wedding (shhh, it's a secret!) I've heard that some resorts don't do ceremonies on Saturdays...is that the case here? Thanks for all the help! I have literally spent all day reading this thread and appreciate all the great information! Claudette
  6. Hello girls! My name is Claudette and I'm getting married on March 14, 2009 in the Mayan Riviera. Right now, I'm getting married at the BlueBay Grand Esmeralda on March 14, 2009. I have been visiting the site as a guest for a while now and have appreciated all the information! I am so excited and hope to be able to share and receive more information! I did not do a site visit to BlueBay, but read a lot of reviews and it seems like such a great deal. I have unfortunately run into quite some problems with the wedding coordinator (even when I speak in Spanish!) but hopefully that will all pass! It's supposed to all be about marrying that special someone we were all lucky enough to find, right?! -Claudette
