I keep forgetting that people can figure it out on their own and I don't need to micromanage everything... The witnesses need to be there two days before the ceremony. The taxi from the airport is five dollars per person, very easy.

If you send me a PM with your email I'll send you the pictures I have of my daughters wedding in the Tucan last March.

For a plated or buffet dinner, she quoted me a price of 1200 for the first two hours and 360 for the second two hours. That includes either the buffet or plated dinner, round tables, white linens, drinks, china, silver, etc. She told me that having a cocktail reception would be 600 for the first hour, and 300 for every hour after that - which would put us at 1500, pretty much the same price. However, we're supposed to get the first hour for free - which would make it 900 I guess. I'm wondering if I go this route if they keep bringing food out each hour, or if the food stops after the first hour. Seems a steep price to pay if they don't bring food out each hour!! She also mentioned that I only get tall cocktail tables for the cocktail reception, no sitting areas. She seemed to really be pushing me towards the buffet...I'm not really sure what I'll do. Eureaka, I got that book too, LOL. Also, I got The Knot Book of Wedding Vows and Traditions, and that has some awesome music selections in it as well. We've been using that book for finding ceremony music. Hello again! We had our cocktail reception from 6 to 9. We also had the ten rooms booked so we did get the first hour free and 300 for each additional hour so you should also. They kept replenishing the food the entire time we were out there, they kept it hot and full. Also, they were going to bring the chairs we had set up in the gazebo over to the terrace for us but it was too windy; they should let you have the chairs from the gazebo for extra seating. Have you considered the lounge furniture from Deco Cancun? It was very comfortable and was perfect for the number of people we had.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks! Erika Hey Erika, the Bugambilia gazebo is more towards the middle of the resort with more people walking by etc. The Tucan is, like you said, closer to the grand side, a little closer to the beach, has less traffic, and is more private. The long walkway is very nice. My daughter had her ceremony in the Tucan and reception on the Tucan terrace. It was nice to be close to our rooms.

We paid 700$ plus tax for the four 8 person "living rooms", columns with lighting, and white sheer flags on the posts. You have to dicker with them a bit, our quote started at 1200$....
  8. Hi Tina He took pictures at the ceremony, family after, us on the beach etc, and two hours into the reception. The pics are on the way!
  9. Hello MP brides to be My daughter was married at the Moon Palace the end of last month. I know that she hasn't posted a review yet so I wanted to comment on some of the things that have been shared by other Moon Palace brides. I have to say, this forum is addicting! Why do I still read it every day? There are a few things that I've read that I don't agree with and some I do, I just wanted to post my opinion. She was married in the Tucan gazebo at 4:00 in the afternoon. We had a total of 26 people along with us. It was very windy that day and from what I heard it's like that most of the time. We got used to it. She had a harpist play for the ceremony, he started playing at 3:45. He was the only music; it was very nice and so in theme with the whole tropical destination wedding. She had ribbon tied around the chairs; very nice, classy, and inexpensive touch. The minister was Gorge Pinto. He does speak good english but if you're thinking of rewriting his ceremony script this is where you'll run into problems. She added a sand ceremony in the middle; he had a little trouble pronouncing some of the words he wasn't used to using. We bought rose petals from the resort and they were passed out to throw as they walked out of the gazebo, also very nice. They were around 90 dollars for 24 people to toss. We decided to take the advice of another MP bride and did not have a dinner. After pictures we had the cocktail reception which included food, very good food, and plenty of it. She chose the VIP hordevores. (sp?) The chicken/pineapple kabobs were very good, also the beef medallions. They kept it hot and kept it full. We were very glad we did not spend the 400 per table. It would have been out of place. The cocktail reception was on the Tucan terrace from 6 to 9. We rented the sound system and had a relative DJ. This was very easy; he just hooked up his iPhone with the downloaded music and that was it. If you are on this terrace you should not use the extra lighting. The lights there were plenty and more would ruin the ambiance of the whole thing. She also rented the lounge furniture from deco cancun, a vender used by the MP. OMG! this was the best thing we did! We had four little living rooms set up, seating for 32. Very comfortable, very cool looking. The love seats even had a hood that pulled up from the back to keep out the wind/sun. She also had them put up what they called flags, very nice, and column lights, beautiful in pics! The Mariachi band played from 6 to 7 while we ate. If you can cut your budget somewhere else try to fit this in, they were wonderful! A couple more things I wanted to be sure to mention...I read someones thoughts on tipping..I consider myself a very good tipper. I tip my hairdresser 20 percent, dining 15 etc. .. At the MP we did not tip for drinks, bartenders, servers etc. You are staying at a five star resort and you've paid a good price for it, you've already paid these people. Don't go wild on tipping. We tipped anyone who handled our luggage, $1 per bag, hairdresser 20 percent, housekeeping $3 per day. These things are normal. Someone said on this forum that not tipping everyone is rude because these people make next to nothing, this isn't true. These people who will be happy to serve you get bussed in paid by the MP as far as an hour away, they get three free meals a day, a good wage, and can stay when their shift is done to learn English. These people are not underpaid. They are very happy with what they make. If you have extra money to throw or give away then spend it on YOURSELF.... Upgrade your room to the concierge level ocean view, this is what we did and would do it again if we go back! One last thing. The MP photog, David Pena...beautiful pics. MP DVD..priceless! It's not just recorded, the DVD is like some soap opera wedding, fading in and out, different angles, the couple walking on the beach, it was worth ten times what we paid for it. Okay, that's it. I'd like to post pics but don't really know how! If you'd like to see pics of the lounge furniture set up, columns, mariachi band, gazebo chairs/ribbons or the pics the MP photog took send me a pm and I'll be happy to send them to you or answer any questionsl [email protected]
  10. We're having our dinner at Arrecifes restaurant. There's an outside terrace, there's a picture of it on this forum somewhere.....
  11. Nice.....i even got an extra just in case...i hope they change the "requirements" on their website so no one ends up wasting an more time/money on this.

  13. Yep, tossing out the private function looks like a big savings, that's what we're doing. Nibsmom- I see you're also from WI, have you had the apostille document attached to your birth certificates yet? Just wondering if you sent them to Madison or had that done somewhere else...
  14. Jennifer- We started out with Maribel and now have Claudia for our WC. We're only four weeks out and just changed our dinner plans last week, she didn't seem to mind. After going over our options we decided to have our reserved dinner the night before the wedding. Our ceremony is at 4:00..then on to the pics...then we reserved the Tucan terrace for our cocktail reception from 6 to 9. I've heard that there's plenty of food included with the cocktail reception and because we get the first hour free we're just going to add on to that. There were others that did this (Betsy?) and it turned out to be a great money saver and a great time. We've added lounge furniture and are renting the sound/light music system. I think you have time to change your mind several times yet!

I notice you are in Wisconsin, and you said you had friends that booked flights round trip for 299, are those flights from MKE to CUN? if so, with what company? i'm asking because my fiance's family is in wisconsin, and if flights are for 299 that is info we can pass along to them. Thank you for your help! Hey there! Our family is coming from Wisconsin and part of our group got flights out of MKE. The flights vary in price by which days you choose to depart/return and also if you're willing to have a connection. The difference is hundreds of dollars per ticket! Flights out of MKE for the end of March are around 345 right now returning on a Mon but the price to return the day before that are 548! The ticket price also varied hundreds of dollars day by day. Someone in our group got their tickets for 405 on a Saturday and the following Monday the prices were back up to 700!

Its the tail end of "high season" so the resort isn't packed to full capacity, but the weather hasn't gotten hot hot or super humid either... It can get a little cool at night but its comfortable weather. Good question about the mosquitos, if anyone knows... We're going to miss you by only a day. We're arriving at the MP on Tues. Mar 24. The ceremony is on Friday Mar. 27 and we'll be flying out again on the 28th. Thanks for the weather info, sounds like it'll be one less thing to worry about. Sounds like we should be bringing mosquito repellent! It can't be any worse than here, we live in Wisconsin.
  17. Are there any Moon Palace brides getting married the last week in March 2009? Does anyone know if it's always windy in Cancun or is that just a certain time of year? I've also read about mosquitos at night from one post... Any help on this topic would be appreciated! We've never been to Cancun and I'm trying to be prepared...
  18. Can you tell me how much they charge per piece for the lounge set up? We were wondering if I should even consider squeezing it into our budget. I love the look of it though, I think it'd make everyone more comfortable.
  19. We chose the Moon Palace...horse drawn carriage...beautiful wedding gazebos
  20. It took us a few months, it's hard to plan a wedding without feeling like you're also planing a vacation for several other people.... with their money! It's hard to make everyone happy so just concentrate on you two, it's YOUR day!

    Lurker?

Hey what's up with the names? I see that some people are members, junior members, senior members.... why does it say "Lurker" under my name?! Do I have to get a certain number of points to get rid of that name? Does anyone know where to find linen suits for men? It's almost winter where we live and everyone says they're out of season?! Is there a website?
  22. Hello everyone! I'm helping my daughter plan her destination wedding in March 2009 at the Moon Palace in Cancun. This site has already answered a lot of questions but I can't open any attachments without points, any advice?
