  1. I'm in Ottawa, and my TA told me that 4 months prior to the wedding, I go down to the Dominican consulate with all my documents and they will translate them for me for about $400. She said that 4 months is the earliest we can go because they won't accept the documents if they are dated before that...

  2. A Canadian diamond is one that was mined in Northern Canada. There are a few different mines out there, and the diamond is engraved with the logo. Mine is a 'Maple Leaf' diamond, but there are also 'Polar Bear' diamonds too...those are the mines I believe. Anyone who knows more, please correct me if I'm wrong. I insisted on a Canadian diamond even though they tend to cost a bit more because it was important to me that I knew my diamond was mined fairly, plus being Canadian, I wanted to support the economy...

  3. We just sent out our invitations and opted out of the STD's. We did a flat invite, with a flat info card for all the travel, cost, deadlines etc with our website listed at the bottom. We sent them this week (8 1/2 months) before the day, because we have booked with our agent and our deadline for the deposit with our travel agency is at the end of June, giving people a month and a half to decide, although almost everyone knew the details already. Our agent was able to block our group (based on our projected numbers) until the deposit date to ensure we have enough space for the keeners who are coming. After that date, she will be releasing the space, and anyone who books after the end of June will hopefully be able to book as part of our group. We sent out 75 invites to everyone who showed interest and all our family and people were already getting anxious to find out the details (as per a few frantic calls from the fam). Do what works for you is my advice...if you want to do STD's that's great, but it didn't work in our timeline so we skipped it. We will be sending out more info to those who booked closer to our date in the form of a passport or brochure, we haven't decided just yet, as well as AHR invites. Although it is a bit stressful, it was also alot of fun to see the final product -- so enjoy!cheer2.gif

  4. Congratulations! We just went through the whole process not too long ago for the first time. We actually put an offer in on a house, and they had 3 days to decide because they were out of town. In that time, another buyer came in and offered them full price for the house so they took that offer. It was really disappointing, but then we found a better house a couple of weeks later. We put in our offer, they countered, we accepted. We put a good faith deposit down of $2000. We only had 1 week to get the home inspection and secure our mortgage and then we closed 3 weeks later! It was really, really quick but now we are in our new home and we love it! We are so happy to have lost the first house now that we are in this one!

Congrats on finishing school and planninng the wedding at the same time without losing your mind! Go big or go home I say! Have fun with the process

  5. Worked out for one hour of full body weights in a class called Body Pump. We do a million squats, lunges, bicep curls and tricep extensions, and on and on...it works you till exhaustion while the instructor yells at you to keep going - amazing! I actually love it because it pushes me past the point I would ever push myself...kinda of like sharing a personal trainer with 30 other people. It also has the endurance component because the reps are so high...I always ache the next day but its so worth it!

  6. I grew up in Ottawa, and the FI and I love living here. We feel that it's the perfect place to raise a family (especially since most of our fam is here). We love the Canal and all the nature trails. We moved in together after university (U of O!!) and decided to move to Sandy Hill which is definetly fun, but when we decided to buy, we moved to the West End. Thats so fun that you lived in Ottawa..we are definetly a minority on this forum! Good luck planning!

  7. Hi all Grand Palladium Brides!

I'm also booked at the Grand Palladium Bavaro for Jan 24 to Feb 7, 2009. My TA is a DW specialist and she is the one doing all the work to organize the actual wedding for me which is amazing! What a relief! She is in direct contact with Carolina and raves about how great and quick she is about getting back to her. I'll post info as it gets passed down to me from my TA. At this point, I'm waiting to hear back with the confirmed wedding date. We are hoping for Jan 28, so keep your fingers crossed for us! Any pics or info you guys have would be great! wink.gif

  8. So far I haven't seen any Canadian schools on this list!

I went to the University of Ottawa (mascot is a Gee Gee, but no one is quite sure what it is exactly...a horse I think). My FI went to college in Lake Placid, NY...so there is a little american in us~
