Welcome back and congrats! I'd love to see more pics of your hair when you have time. So you went with Sebastian's instead of Franc Gole. What changed your mind? I just made my appointment with Fran Gole so I would love to hear your feedback on them. Also, how did you get in contact with Sebastian's? Do you have an email address for them?

Are you staying there? That was the most beautiful place! So jealous!
We are staying there for about five days, our wedding is there as well. And, then 5 days at Verana. I'm really looking forward to it. I've heard awesome things about it!
  3. I would recommend having it after the wedding. Do you have to have it right after you return? My FI and are having ours in the Summer of 09 and we're marrying in October of this year. Like you, we live in Seattle where there weather takes a turn for the worst at the end of October and doesn't stop raining until April/May. Since I'm from the eastcoast it's a big journey for the fam so I want it to be at a time when the weather is at it's best.

If we go up or down the coast, is driving the best way? Has anyone just rented a car and taken a drive?
Totally late in responding but it may help someone! My FI are honeymooning at Verana. It's about an hour from PV by taxi and a 20 min boat ride from there. It's so lovely and small (there are only 7 villas I believe). The best part is that it will all be paid for before we arrive so there's not that bit to worry about. You should check it out.
  5. I think the BM dresses are killer! Is that the actual color? I love it but I am a little partial to pink! I'm familiar with your gown and think they will totally compliment each other. I love the idea of 1920's vintage beach. You mentioned your wedding is being designed by DD? Can you tell me what that's short for, still learning all the abbreviations!

My inspiration has been Billie Holiday or Diana Ross as Billie in Lady Sings The Blues. I just love the elegance of the era! rolleyes.gif

  6. Hi Kisa,

I'm Black as well, so I feel your pain. I think she should try Franc Gole or Sebastian. I'm leaning more towards Fran Gole because they have pics of their brides on their site and some are Latino and close to my complexion so it at least gives me a reference. I spoke them in great detail and they assured me they would have no problem with my hair or makeup. They specifically expressed to me that they have experience with Black women. Considering they also have a salon in Toronto (more exposure to our hair and skin type) it made more comfortable because as you mentioned not many black brides get married in Mexico.

I've confirmed with them and have asked them to send my pics of any black brides they may have or will work on prior to my date. If they send some I'll be sure to post them.

I don't know much about Sebastian and they don't have a site, but their info is:

    Venustiano Carranza 202

    Col. Emiliano Zapata

    Puerto Vallarta, Jal

    (322) 222-0331

Let me know what you decide!

    Kara

  7. Hi Kisa,

I'm marrying there in October, though I don't that I'm of much help to you as my FI and I are eloping. I'm working with a planner based in California and she is the one recommend the location to me. It's such beautiful location and the chapel is stunning. My wedding is in October, which is kind of late for you but I'll be sure to post picks and PM you when we return. Good luck!

Yeah she's pretty great! She's such an awesome person on top of being an awesome planner. I checked out your blog. I love the black and white petite cake you have featured. I'm think we may do something like this but not 100% sure yet. As we settled on more details, I 'll definitely share!

I'll definitely let you know as we get more details settled. I'm still waiting for my planner to get back to me with all of the details. We're really looking forward to it. It's such a beautiful location and I think it will be the perfect setting for our big day. Seems like you'll see it in person before I will. We won't be making a trip down prior to the wedding. I'm trusting my planner that everything will be in order. Talk about faith! Have fun on your trip and let me know what you think when you get back.
  11. As many of you know, we are excited about the wedding and equally anticipating our honeymoon. So would you believe if I told you that gas prices are forcing us to change our honeymoon plans? Well believe it! The price of gas continues to climb higher and higher and airlines continue to raise prices. On top of it all they are also cutting flights in order to save where they can. As a result, not only is it ridiculously expensive to fly from Puerto Vallarta to Colima, we can't get a flight between the two cities on the days needed. I did hear from my wedding planner that flights within Mexico can be spendy, so I guess I can't blame it all on the price of gas. But, aren't gasoline prices the cause of everything these days? I guess I'm just jumping on the band wagon.http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b9...gas-prices.jpg

Hi OMC and welcome3.gif to the forum!

I would suggest visiting your stylist before you go and making sure your weave is in order. You know? Neat edges, tighten etc. Then when you get to Jamaica you can go to the stylist and everything is in order and ready to go. I wouldn't have them wash it, too much risk that something could get messed up, especially if you wear a glue in. By the way...which do you wear? If it's a glue in make sure to bring extra glue in case there are any mishaps, but if you can you should go with a sew in. Way more versatility as far as getting it wet and less work to get it dry and styled again.

Have you decided on a location? If so, I would get in touch with the salon in advance to see what they charge as well as send them photos of what you would like to see if they can do it. I don't think they should have a problem executing what you are looking for as both are pretty classic and easy to execute.

The other option depending on how soon you'll marry after arriving in Jamaica is to have your stylist do it and then wrap it up so it keeps, but I would say that's more appropriate for something more elaborate.

As far a swimming goes I woldn't do it until after the wedding if you have a glue in since you know what will happen but if you have a sewn in go for it! All you need is a pressing comb or a flat iron to get things in order again.

I hope this helps! For clip in advice I would PM BarefootBride. The hair she bought looks wonderful and is another great option if you want more versatility.

Let me know if you need more help or have other questions!

  13. thatswck.gif Have your thought about working directly with the planner at the resort and you taking over? I'm with you FI on this one. It's a tough thing to do but I would let her go. I understand you are having a hard time with it but think of it like this...would you pay your stylist if you went into the shop and she washed you hair but made you color, cut and style it yourself? huh.gif My guess is NO. With the economy the way it is, this is one less expense and more money for you to put into the wedding or use as you start your new life with your FI. Just something to think about.rolleyes.gif

Everyone needs a little inspiration now and then. Instead of pulling tears from piles of bridal mags I surfed the web and created digital inspiration boards. They turned out great, require less organization and saved me hours of sorting through magazines.

  15. My fiancé and I are marrying on October 14, 2008 in Puerto Vallarta. Upon the suggestion of our planner Lisa Vorce (who is absolutely fab, but more on that later) we decided on the Hacienda San Angel in the Romantic Zone of PV. This place is exquisite and the perfect place for our "elopement". Why the quotes? Well, all of our friends and family know our plans, so no secret there! And, we're not planning the traditional elopement. I'm working with my planner to create an event that is intimate and stunning as it is memorable. Check out the details and let me know what you think!

    Wedding Location: Hacienda San Angel

It's rich in history as well as full of old Hollywood romance. It's former owner Richard Burton gave it as a Valentine's gift to his wife Susan Hunt. Yet, she wasn't this first to receive a home from him in PV. Estranged wife Elizabeth Taylor has that honor! We will have our ceremony in the newly built chapel and dine on the private patio of our wedding suite overlooking the bay. It also provides perfect viewing of the nightly fireworks!

Wedding Planner: Oh! How Charming by Lisa Vorce

From the moment we spoke I knew she would be a friend for life but after getting into her immensely creative brain I knew she had to be my planner! Check out her site, it's absolutely beautiful!

Wedding Photography: Aaron Delessie. A good friend and peer of Lisa's, I love his style. While you're there, check out his blog.

    Wedding Website: Blogger

Via my blog I'm able to keep my family and friends abreast of my planning process but we will also use it to share pictures and stories with them during our honeymoon. Also, via my blog I've met a lot of great brides and have helped a few with wedding ideas.

*I chose to create a blog because I wasn't happy with the personal wedding websites available. I did all of the creative myself in Photoshop and use the tutorials on blogger to get myself up and going. I had very little Photoshop experience prior to doing this and taught myself along the way, so it can definitely be done. Feel free to PM me for assistance with starting your own blog!

    Hair& Makeup: Franc Gole Salon

Affordable and accommodating and go figure, they actually have a gallery of brides on their website. Can anyone say "Hallelujah"?

*Makeup Inspiration: I really love the new Bronzed Pink & Nude looks from Bobbi Brown. Chat live with an artist to tailor the look to your complexion.

*Hair Inspiration: Not sure yet how I'll wear my hair, but I have my inspiration. I think something soft and romantic will work well back to my dress.

Wedding Gown: The Bridal Garden, located in Kirkland, WA. I purchased my Monique Lhuillier gown off the rack at their annual sample sale and I couldn't be any more happier with my purchase. It's really not as "Solid Gold" as it looks here. It's a very faint champagne color.

Founded on the premise that every bridesmaid should look like a million bucks twobirds bridesmaid created this ultra flattering, multi-talented frock. Made from super comfortable jersey spandex and available in two lengths from $270 it can be worn in ten, yes...ten unique ways.

There's a similar dress available from Butter by Nadia. At a slightly higher price they're just as sassy and available in cotton jersey or satin.
