  1. Hello ladies! I figured I need another reason to procrastinate at work, and as such, I can start documenting my wedding plans for our DW in Cabo.

A little bit about myself and my FI: My name is Ana and I'm currently living "cohabitating" (as the priest likes to call it) with my FI Michael in Vancouver. Michael and I met in Ottawa where I was finishing my undergrad, and I moved in with him in Vancouver 8 months later after I graduated.

We decided to do a destination wedding for two reasons, (1)our families are on opposite coasts of Canada, and our friends are scattered all around the world...we wanted to give people a destination that would be fun and exciting and where we could spend more time with everyone, rather than just a couple of days; and (2)we (and by "we" I mean "me") didn't want to have to do alot of planning. We wanted a quick, easy and virtually stress free wedding.

I went into this process thinking that we would pick a resort, pick a wedding package and that's it. Well I guess the anal/bridezilla zide of me came out because I've now trashed the whole "package" idea, and decided to pick each individual detail separately...lol! Fortunately, I have an extremely understanding and loving fiance who lets me do whatever I want, and just asks that he be kept in the loop as to the crazy plans that I decide to make. He's probably the most easy going person ever, and is just happy to pick his favorite idea out of the ones I present to him.

So first thing is first, it took us about a month to find a travel agent that we liked and felt comfortable with. We finally found Deborah from Roseway Travel here in Vancouver. She is absolutely amazing, and more imprtantly, calm...she kept me in check when I was stressing about picking the right location. We looked at every possible resort in the Mayan Riviera, until realizing that perhaps our problem stemmed from the fact that we picked the wrong coast of Mexico. So we changed it, and moved the wedding to Dreams Los Cabos. Funny enough, this was the first resort that Michael picked out of the brochure, way back in December when we first started looking at destinations. So he got his wish :)

The second issue we had was picking a date. With so many people, some in university, some buying houses, etc... it was hard finding a date that was good, and that also provided for favorable Cabo weather. But we did eventually pick April 1st of 2009. Although, its 4 months later than we initially wanted, what's 4 months in the greater scheme of things?

After these decisions were made the rest was pretty simple. I called Yesica and had her book us in to the Oceana Terrace for the reception at Dreams. I called the Mision de San Jose de Cabo Auiti and spoke with Padre Juvencio, and secured the date with him. (I tend to like using the phone more than email...again the crazyiness comes out).

So here is what we've got so far:

Church in Cabo: booked for April 1st, 2009 at 3pm; I'm thinking of doing something like this for decorating the church:

Church in Vancouver: had first meeting with Father Dion and starting Marriage Prep courses tomorrow

Dress: Ordered a Marisa dress from Ritche Bridal in Toronto, its being made in NY in a silk satin cafe color and will be here in the summer some time. Here's some pics, but this was a sample that was a bit big and in silk taffeta. I'm really excited and curious to see what the final product will look like :)

Here are some pics that I'm using for inspiration for colors etc..

Photographer: Juan Carlos - we are just waiting for the contract; we're going to have him booked for 8 hours and hoping that's enough :)

Wedding Coordinator: Maye - just working out the contract with her and will deposit with her asap. I'm super excited to have someone else do the vendor arrangement and research...my head is spinning already

Also, we're using Yesica from Dreams as well, so we'll have two people helping.

Invites: we're in the process of designing these. My MOH and future sister in law is designing them along with the STD cards.

Wedding colors: light pink, gold, kiwi and cream; we're also using a gold starfish to "brand" the wedding. My FI gave me a starfish Tiffany necklace for our frist Christmas and I love it so much. So I wanted to incorporate it into the wedding, since its something that is part of my every day life.

That's all I've got so far! I will keep everyone posted on ideas and planning as I go along! :)

  2. Hi Jenny welcome to the forum! There are alot of Cabo brides here so I'm sure you'll find alot of helpful info. I'm getting married at Dreams Cabo in April of 2009. If you have any questions let me know :)

  3. Welcome to the forum! The Dreams resorts are amazing for weddings. You might also want to look at the El Dorado Royale...they have a really good wedding planning website which the wedding coordinator there should be able to send you. Its through Lomas Travel :) happy planning!

  4. We decided to do the legal ceremony at home. We didn't want to really bother with the blood work etc...that's needed in Mexico. To be honest I hate the idea of needles and taking blood out before the wedding...I have thin veins and usually I get very burised....I didn't think it would really go with the dress :) Also, I have a couple of friends that did the "legal" ceremony in Mexico and then realized that their marriage wasn't recognized in many countries including some European ones. So we thought it would just be easier and take some of the pressure off to have it done earlier.
