Don't let EDR's photo policy dissuade you from having your wedding there. It is a beautiful resort and you will be in awe when you arrive there. It is unbelievable. And my TA says that Lomas does weddings better than any other resort. Also, I hear some other resorts are starting to charge fees for outside photogs. So just have an open mind. Good luck with your planning and don't be afraid to ask questions!

EDR Wedding Review... LONG... PICS!
maggiemaylou replied to kitesurf_bride's topic in Destination Wedding Reviews
Sara - Your wedding pictures are beautiful. I just started this planning process with EDR and I have to say that your review is REALLY really helpful! I am at the very beginning, and stressing about the smallest things. I might be asking you a lot of questions in the near future. If you think of ANY other advice for the soon-to-be EDR brides, please please post! Thanks again Sara for your review and pics! -
We have finally made a decision and are going with EDR. We are confirmed for June 20, 2008 at 5pm. We are dealing with Monica who has been fairly responsive so far. Really wanted Casitas Gazebo. Wander what it looks like today and how much beach there really is. We are going to have 25-35 people total. Any thoughts for ceremony backup? For our private reception locations (we are wanting to do BBQ deluxe I think), they sent us all beach pictures. I am not real thrilled with the thought of eating in the sand. Any suggestions? Also would love your thoughts on this: We are using "free" dinner the night before for our "rehearsal" dinner. Do they actually let you rehearse? We are doing a symbolic ceremony (legal in the states week before) - any idea as to who conducts this ceremony and is it in English? The wedding is at 5pm, and depending on cost, we are going to try and do cocktails/appetizers at 6:00pm and dinner at 7:30pm. This may be pushing it and their packages don't really allow for our time frame. We also want to have some dancing like a normal reception (with drinks of course). Any thoughts as to how we could pull this off? Sorry for all the questions, but I am just getting started with all this. Lost speed dealing with another HORRIBLE hotel that should not be in the wedding business. You can PM for more info on that. Thanks everyone for your help! I could not do this without this forum! You guys are awesome!

Thank you so much RoSean. I started looking at The Royal Playa del Carmen today, but I was not as impressed as I was with The Royal Cancun. I also started looking at Sun Palace, but I don't know what quality food they have, I haven't seen any wedding pictures from there, and I think it is couples only. So, if I can use the wedding pictures I have from Royal Playa del Carmen as reference for my wedding at The Royal Cancun, I think I should be okay. It is such a nice hotel, that it can't be too bad, right? I am just more worried about my guests stay for a week than having a nice wedding that lasts a few hours.

Thanks girls. I am starting to rethink my decision after talking to the "ceremony" coordinator this morning on the phone. I am just not getting as much information from them as I would like. I would like a beach wedding, but they tell me the beach is not big enough. I asked for pictures, and they say they don't have any. I am worried about food, the reception (I have never seen pictures of what it might be like). They don't even have pictures of the flowers they offer. So I am thinking about maybe the Royal in PDC or going back to the original plan of EDR (which I am not too thrilled about because of Lomas). Any thoughts? If anyone has any specific information from The Royal Cancun or The Royal PDC, I would really really appreciate the info. Thank you thank you thank you!

Hi all! Well, I had originally started planning at EDR. But with a lot of different age ranges (grandparents included), logisitics, troubles with Lomas, etc.... I decided to go with a different resort. So, I started looking in Cancun. I found The Royal Cancun (a Real Resort). However, it is so new that I can't find ANY pictures on the internet anyhwere of any weddings that have taken place there. I am in contact with the WC and they have sent me table setups and a few pictures from events they have done. Has anyone been to a wedding here, or any other Real resort, planning a wedding at The Royal Cancun, interested in the property, or had a wedding at The Royal Playa del Carmen? I could really use some help! Thanks!

I visited the resort, but don't remember Tucanes all that well in person. I have seen some pictures on TripAdvisor: El Dorado Royale, Puerto Morelos, Riviera Maya - Resort Reviews - TripAdvisor Click candid traveler photos at the top. There are also a lot of people's wedding setup photos. Be warned: they give away a lot of the little things that would be surprises when you get to the resort. I am sure it will still be amazing, but not a surprise after you look at the pictures.
