  1. Then I would just tell her that you don't know since you didn't plan it. Just play dumb like you have no idea what is going on and then you've done your part and your MOH can take it from there. She can call your friend and say you had asked her about bringing the kids so she wanted to let you know ("without ruining any of the shower secrets by telling the bride") that its an adults only shower...

  2. Not at all. Register for what you need/want. We used Honeymoon Wishes - Honeymoon Bridal Registry your wedding gift is the perfect honeymoon to get $$ to use on our honeymoon for excursions, etc. I am sure there are plenty of other general registry sites where guests can give monetary amounts towards certain thins that you choose. With our honeymoon registry - we actually were just sent the $$ via PayPal ... but it allowed guests to feel like they were contributing toward specific things. Does that make sense?

I am trying to live in the present and not worry too much about it, but it makes it hard knowing that he will eventually be deployed. It must feel so good when they come home after being away but I'm sure it must be hell when they're gone (the longest I have had to go was 2 months when my FI was in training). Congrats again and continue to share your stories!
    Glad you found us!

If you are not used to being alone, the deployments can be especially tough. I was so used to being on my own that when DH deployed, I handled it better than I thought. Just make sure you take part in the support groups that are offered and try to build a good support system of friends around you. You will have good days and bad days, for sure. Hopefully by the time he gets deployed, we will be closer to peace time.

Oh Rombauer is all over the place around here. I haven't tried it ... but the brand has a good reputation as far as reasonably priced wines go.

I used to think of pink wines as just basically white zinfandel untilI started selling wines. Rose wines are usually drier in style - not sweet like white zin's. One fabulous rose is Montes Cherub. It has a pic of cupid w/ a bow and arrow on the front and is an upscale quality out of Chile for a fraction of the upscale price.

I don't know how readily available it is ... but one of the top sellers at a few of the wine bars that I sell to here is Innocent Bystander Pink Moscato. It's from Australia and is a pink bubbly moscato that is just absolutely amazing. All my friends love it too and I buy it by the case to keep at home. Even DH loves it and he's not a wine drinker. Slightly sweet but not syrupy sweet ... and fabulously crisp. I promise if you find it, you will love it!
  5. The Melia was right next door to our hneymoon resort, Paradisus Palma Real - and I wasn't too impressed with Melia.

I can't give a review or anything, but from what I saw - if Ocean Sand is getting such great reviews from these gals - I'd go with that instead of Melia...

  6. Hannah - I would check out the vendor area for photog suggestions. There are so many that come highly recommended here on BDW. I LOVED my photog and a friend used her for a stateside wedding and also loved her. A lot depends on your photography budget.

Also - check out the other DR threads for off-resort activities, excursions, restaurants, etc. We went off resort several times to a local dive bar (Steves Corner Bar) and to eat at Jellyfish - and I HIGHLY recommend doing both (we took taxis).

Also, we did the Saona Island tour and it was THE BOMB. The Monster Safari also comes highly recommended and we are going to do that next time.

    Happy Planning!!!

  7. I think its great that you are starting the process early. We got engaged in June 2006 ... but then my fiance left for Iraq and was gone 14 months. So, we weren't married until April 2008 ... and truly, having that much time to plan and save money and research was a blessing. The time will FLY by! Feel free to read my review (the link is in my siggy). We LOVED Paradisus Punta Cana and I highly recommend it.

  8. Our actual wedding and reception ran just under $4k ($3820 to be exact). I posted a breakdown in my review thread.

*Here's the link to my thread - my first post breaks down our totals and how we got our invoice down from $9K to $4K* http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t20973

We had 40 people and did a beach reception with a buffett and open bar for 3 hours. Our rehearsal dinner was at one of the restaurants but since we did not privatize the restaurant, there was no charge. They just sat us in a section away from everyone else and it was perfect.

We did our wedding and reception with the "a la carte" pricing instead of using a package and b/c of the # of people we had - it was a lot less expensive than using a package - and it was exactly what we wanted.

Of course, that $8K did not include travel/accomodations/incidentals (dress/invites/OOT bags/etc).
