  1. I can help on this one as I live here and I dive. I have done quite a bit of diving in Belize (Caribbean) and loved the reefs and clear vis there. I have not been thrilled with the dive sites here in Los Cabos. Most if not all the local diving is done in the Sea of Cortez and not the Pacific. Depending on the time of year visibility will vary but it is not the Caribbean. If you are getting married in PV you should check out Belize for diving if that is the focus.

  2. I have been following both of these storms; Hurricane Norbert and Tropical Storm Odile. I have been here for 9 years and through a few hurricanes and what I know is that I don't know. You never really know where and how it will land until it is approx. 48 hours away from you. That is when all the models tend to get accurate. For those of you with weddings this weekend (Oct. 10.11.12) follow Norbert. For those of you with weddings next week keep your eye on Odile.

I have found that WunderGround and specifically this link is the best source of reliable information.

My fingers and crossed that they both pass with minimum effect.

  3. I just did yet another wedding with DJ Mijares last night at Dreams and once again he was fantastic. He played acoustic guitar on the beach, electric guitar with backing band tracks (computer) at the cocktail schmooze and then DeeJay'd at the reception. Did I mention he was also the MC? There are some great DJ's here in Cabo and Mijares is one of the them.

  4. There isn't a place in Cabo where you can't buy Tequila! I would suggest Europea. There is one in Cabo San Lucas on the marina, one in the Corridor and one in San Jose del Cabo. Here is a link with their Tequila choices and pricing.

Tequila comes in three 'ages': blanco (run away), repasado (yummy) and anejo (oldest and most expensive) and I recommend the repasado's. In particular try any of these brands: Herradura and Don Julio. Stay away from any of the cheap, sugared brands like Cuervo that you might find on the lower shelves of any U.S. store.

Here is a quick and dirty article on Tequila.

And lastly the cure for a tequila hangover... time!

  5. Whoa I got dizzy trying to watch that!

That is not Santa Fe... it is in fact Riu Palace. They are right beside each other. I have photographed many weddings at Riu and it is very rare that you will see and hear a hootfest like that. Yes people hang off the edge of the infinity pool to watch the ceremony.

  6. Your Minister needs to check his watch but by his miscalculation he has done you a favor. Sunsets in July range around 8:00 p.m. (plus or minus 10 minutes). It is best to schedule your ceremony at least 1.5 hours before the sunset. In your case it will be around 2.0 hours. Getting the best bits of the suns last rays also depends on your location as some spots are obscured by buildings, hills or palms. All this from a photographers perspective trying to get the best light for the best photos.

  7. I hope you get your dilema sorted. I would like to wade in about Marco. Whenever Marco is the Officiant I always have a big smile on my face. Marco has a wonderful presence which can only be felt live and in person. Reading his mannered repsonses here on this thread can in no prepare you for what an incredible touch he has as an Officiant.

I just did a beach wedding with Marco at Casa Del Mar and he was right on the money once again! Sincere, humorous and respectful. And he always looks great.

  8. I don't want to trip the alarm without all the information but something has come up. I am wondering for those brides that have booked (or those considering) either of the RIU hotels (Palace or Santa Fe) here in Cabo if there was an issue with outside vendors, in particular photographers.

In the past I have photographed weddings at RIU without problems. A couple of months ago I went to RIU Palace to photograph a great couple from Denver and gate security DEMANDED a $100 'day fee' if I was going to be there longer than 20 minutes. The situation escalated to the lobby of the hotel where the manager on duty reiterated the extortion policy. The wedding planner at the time who was at the front desk heard everything and did nothing but walk away. I took the couple from Denver off-site to a fantastic beach nearby where we did all our photography and had a great time. I never once mentioned the problem I had with the hotel to them.

Recently I received this from another RIU bride...

"Thank you for getting back to me. I have inquired with the Riu and they will not let me hire an outside vender. I was thinking of..."

I photograph at many locations and with most of the hotels here in Cabo so my immediate concern is not that local photographers and other vendors have lost a venue but that guests (weddings) of RIU have been denied their right of choice.

Does no outside vendors include; hair, make-up, flowers, videographer, cakes, deejay, etc...? Can anyone confirm this awful policy or has there been a communication disconnect at both the RIU's here in Cabo?
