  1. I knew there was something else you had asked. The dinner was ordered off the menu for private functions that EDR offers. We had a cocktail party prior to the reception while the pictures were being taken. The cocktail party was EDR Mexican Cocktail menu. The reception dinner was grilled cactus and mozzarella (would not do that again) Papaya salad (fantastic) and grilled mahi-mahi (delicious) We just offered cake for dessert. Anything else I can help with let me know.
  2. The reception was held at the La Isla restaurant. It was closed for our private party. The venue was wonderful. The welcome dinner was held at Guaycama (s) Bar area. Again, they closed the area for our guests. The chapel at EDR is beautiful but they also have a very nice gazebo on the beach. The gazebo is near the casitas. The chapel holds 90 and I am not sure about the gazebo area.
  3. We have just celebrated our daughters wedding at El Dorado Royale on May 26. We had 72 guests, all stayed at the resort and for the most part it was wonderful. We used Tammy (gee does she have something to do with this site??) at Wright Travel to work with the resort on room blocks, transportation, collecting everyones money and then mailing all of the travel documents. No small task and it went beautifully. [email protected] The resort had many amenities we wanted, a gorgeous chapel, venues big enough for our guests, and nice rooms at an affordable rate. For the most part EDR did not disappoint. The welcoming dinner, wedding, reception were perfect, great food, service, flowers were awesome and were the only decoration we used. The venues were so pretty that just flowers were all the addition we needed. Some things did not go well and came down to the usual, communication. Not between us and them but between departments within EDR. They are working these kinks out. Don't get me wrong it was irritating to have to sit with them for 3 hours upon arrival to go over everything we already had in a signed contract but worth it when it all eventually worked out. Yes, the bride and groom not getting their moonlight beach dinner was unacceptable but again, they stayed focused on the big day and it was great. Elizabeth Medina was the photographer. She stayed at the resort with her assistant for two nights. She photographed the welcome dinner and the wedding as part of her 8 hour package. She also took pictures as the bride and bridesmaids were dressing. Elizabeth was fantastic. She is kind, helpful, efficient. About her pictures, can't tell you yet because we won't get them for a couple of weeks. I recall that one of the posts mentioned that the EDR was quiet at night. Many guests did not have a problem hanging at the bars until 1 or 2. It was really fun, plenty for everyone to do, eat, drink. The all-inclusive was wonderful as no one had to reach for their wallets. This forum was so helpful as we began to plan in December that I hope this posting is helpful to someone else. If you have any questions I will be watching the forum for a few weeks to answer them, or send them privately. (the bride and groom honeymooned at Excellence resort, they loved it)
  4. several people have written privately since my review of EDR. I am really terrible at understanding how to write back, yes I am over 50! Most questions have concerned swimming in the ocean. From what I could tell swimming in the ocean at EDR is not possible. You could walk the beach, wade in the water but not swim. There are huge boulders that the waves crash on about 50 yards out in the surf. I did see kayaks so there must be some access but I did not see any. The cocktail reception offerings at EDR are wonderful. Everything from passed, buffet, etc.of the hors' and of course the bar is included so there is no extra charge. We are having the reception in one of the dining rooms, open air but large thatched roof. We are glad for that due to the heat in May. Mallory and Matt are so excited, the STD went out and the responses are slowly trickling in. If you have any questions I really will try to check the site more often and to respond more quickly. I think I have figured out how to reply!! (no laughing all you young brides)!
  5. We are so excited to have Elizabeth shooting Mallory and Matt's wedding at El Dorado Royale on May 26. She has been so responsive to our email questions and we feel her rates are right inline with the other photographers suggested on the forum. Of course we will share pictures after the wedding. Welcome Elizabeth, Julie Williamson
  6. Just returned from Mexico and a pre-wedding visit to El Dorado Royale. Our daughter is getting married there 05/26/07. This forum has been so helpful, especially Tammy, that I thought I would share highlights First, gorgeous property. Lobby, rooms, pool area, ocean, resturants, etc. everything was really pretty. Even the lowest price rooms are spacious and the bathrooms are huge. Each room has a patio, hammock and two chairs. The atmosphere is wonderful. Being adult only the noise level is low. People having a good time, laughter, talking, ocean waves crashing (pretty windy when we were there) but no screams of "mommy watch me" around the pool! I love kids but they do change the atmosphere. The whole place is very romantic. The food was far better than I had expected from an all-inclusive. Getting reservations at the dining rooms (I think 7 resturants on the property) proved to be a problem but booking ahead is the way to go. Wedding coordinator was great. We expect 90-100 people so we are a pretty big destination wedding. They met with us for 4.5 hours, showed us all of the room choices, flowers, tour of the property and venues for welcome dinner and reception. They were great. There is a lovely chapel beach front. It is airconditioned, a consideration in May, and it seats 100 persons. Lovely. We are so excited now that the decisions have been made and so pleased that this site was available. Having photographer Elizabeth Medina is an added bonus. If anyone has any specific questions don't hesitate to ask. I have some pictures I can share if anyone wants them. Thank you all for your helpful posts. Julie
