Your Wedding Resort Choice and Why??

Recommended Posts

Hi!

We are STILL trying to decide which resort to have our wedding!! AHHHH...

If anyone can tell me where you are getting married, or have gotten married and WHY you chose that particular resort I would be soooo appreciative!!

We are looking in The Riviera Maya and Cancun.

FYI...we are currently thinking about Aventura Palace, Playacar Palace & Club Med Cancun.

Thanks!!

Emily

We chose The Royal Playa del Carmen for several reasons. We had our choices narrowed down to Aventura, Excellence RM, and El Dorado Royale. We wanted an adults-only place. I am picky on rooms so I was looking for posh rooms with hottubs. Most of these fit the bill. However, the Aventura does NOT have a beach, it has a lagoon. So that one was off the list. El Dorado suffers from beach errosion like many resorts and I really didn't want sandbags in the background of my wedding photos!

The Royal has an excellent location. It has a sister property right next door in case we have guests with families or need a cheaper alternative. Also it is one block from 5th avenue in Playa del Carmen (famous for night time entertainment and shopping) so our guests will have many options without an expensive cab ride.

I spend months reading reviews on Trip advisor and this resort ended up having everything I wanted!

Good luck in your search and use trip advisor! It was a life savor in deciding!

We chose Dreams Tulum for a number of reasons. First of all, my FI has a 6 yr old daughter that obviously will be a part of the ceremony, so the hotel needed to accept children. Second, I wanted a resort that would be budget friendly for our guests, and Dreams offers a Hacienda section (perfectly fine, standard rooms) and the more luxe suites-only Dreams section. Third, we didn't want a very large resort, as most of the people coming are not very travel savvy, we didn't want anyone feeling lost, especially with people staying in different sections of the hotel. The beach is supposed to be beautiful, plus there are two pools, and lots of other activities included in the AI package. Lastly, I have had my heart set on Del Sol Photography for years now, and the Karisma resorts (El Dorado, Azul, etc) do not allow outside vendors (unless you are willing to pay a huge surcharge AND because of this many vendors will not work on their property). I would suggest looking at the Paradisus Riviera Maya too. I have stayed many times in the area, if you post more specifically what you're looking for/what's important to you, myself and the other DW brides may be able to give you a little more help and direction.

We chose the Gran Bahia Principe Complex. We looked at a few on trip advisor and out of 25 posts we found 1 negative post so we thought to odds were in our favour. We decided on the Tulum area for a few reasons. One reason we have 50 people flying down and range from ages 7 to 85 and the Gran Bahia Principe Complex offer something for everyone because you stay at one and play at all three. One thing we wanted was a wedding on the beach so Tulum is on the beach. However I’m sure you are able to have your wedding on the beach with the other resorts in the complex.

This resort was in the price range that we were looking for and could accommodate the number of people. Also the requirements to be married there were easy to gather. All you need is your passports and tourist cards and the passports of your 4 witnesses if you have never been married before. I’ve been reading of the horror stories from the other brides trying to fill all the requirements.

The day after we booked and finalized our resort the wedding coordinator e-mailed me. My coordinator’s name is Jazmin and she is awesome!!! I’m completely happy will everything I’ve picked by e-mail and know that it will be perfect when I get down there. Also I was able to look at the packages for the wedding on line. They have a great website.

Hope this helps! Congrats again!

I just had my wedding at the Grand sunset princess and loved it. I had my choices down to that and Dreams Tulum. Both were around the same price. My deciding factor was that Sunset only has a max of 2 weddings per day where as Dreams has up to 5. The wedding more then exceeeded my expectations. I would highly recomend it.

I'm choosing Moon Palace for lots of reasons.

1)I want a beach wedding.

2)Free excursions if you do 3+night stay, and I'd like to organize group outings (Tulum ruins, snorkeling, etc.)for our guests.

3)No need for a large reception because we are having huge AHR 4 months later. MP offers free dinner reservations for one night, and if you have enough rooms booked you get a free cocktail hour.

4)Seems to be lots of options for free activities for guests (can get into the other palace hotels even though moon palace is already huge).

5)Horse drawn carriage for bride option.

6)Pretty good reviews.

7)MP doesn't seem too close to the spring break crowd that may have an early start (getting married the first weekend of March).

I'm not sure when your wedding was at Dreams Tulum, but they have a limit of 2-3 weddings per day depending on when you booked. If you booked back in 2008 before the closure, it is 3 weddings, if you booked after the re-opening it is only two weddings. They are also at different times and different places, based on what I have been reading on the Dreams Tulum forum, it hasn't presented a problem.

  • 2 weeks later...

I chose Dreams Cancun for my wedding. I love the idea that it's in Cancun and central to so many activities. Since there will a large age range among our guests, I wanted to cater to many different interests.

I have read rave reviews about Dreams on this website and all of the pictures and brochures look stunning! Plus, it was really important to me to be able to have my reception right on the bach. Dreams sets everything up on the beach including a dance floor. I just figured that since I was having a destination wedding, I'd like it to be as unique as possible.

I love that it is all inclusive so the guests only have to worry about cost at the time of booking. The rates offered are very reasonable and I have found that a lot more people are coming to the wedding than we originally anticipated becuase of affordability.

It's a tough decision to make especially when you are doing it rather blindly. It's scary to plan a wedding at a place you have never seen, but this website helped me a ton. Good luck and happy planning!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
