  1. Hi Everyone, My wedding was on Feb. 8th and Erick was our photographer, our picture's turned out beautifully. Everyone that has seen them has absolutely loved them and we just can't stop looking at them. Erick was an amazing person, really friendly and nice to be around. Everyone in Cancun with us had nothing but great things to say about him. Though i'm sure everyone on Claudia's team would do a great job. Good luck!
  2. Thanks! I'm soooo stressed right now, but excited for the fun to begin!
  3. I just had to share my news before leaving in the next 4 days! My FI found out last Monday that he won tickets to the Pro-Bowl, bad news: the trip starts the day before our wedding and flys out of Toronto. Good news: they said that they would fly us from Cancun the day after our wedding to Honolulu and then back to Toronto! Unbelievable! I still can't really wrap my head around it! We were to fly back home with our family 2 days after our wedding and now we get an extended vacation and a honeymoon in an amazing place! I just had to share my excitement with everyone, I hope all of the planning is going well for everyone. I'll let you all know how everything went once I get back. Tara
  4. I know there was a post here somewhere showing a long list of photographers in Cancun, but do you think I can find it now? Can someone help me out? Or am I just losing it!?!
  5. I am soooo excited, but then again, I'm so busy right now I don't really have time to think about it! I will definitely let everyone know how it went as soon as I get back. RPLA=Riu Palace Las Americas, Cancun. Hopefully things will slow down in the next few days and I'll have time to catch up on reading the postings and participating in the conversations!
  6. Wow, I don't visit the forum for a couple of days and look at what happens! I don't really have much to add that's any different from what everyone else has said. It took a while to get in touch with someone at the hotel, but I did eventually and basically they told me that all the planning is done once you arrive. I only have 3 weeks until we leave so everything is being kicked up into high gear. From what I understand at least 80% of the guests have to be staying at the resort where the ceremony is to be held otherwise there is a fee involved. For my resort, RPLA the fee is $100 for the day pass. Hope everyone's planning is going well. Congratulations and welcome to all the new Riu brides to be!

Tara: have you gone down to the resort before? How did you pick it? I have never been to the area, but we wanted something beautiful and beachy and affordable. Plus our guests are from all over so this was sort of central. When is your wedding? Hi Melanie, I haven't been down to this resort before, although I have been to one of the RIU resort before and had a great time. Basically, I knew that I wanted to go to Cancun, since it was the first vacation that my fiance and I took 10 years ago. Once I had the location narrowed down, I narrowed it down to a couple of resorts, either one of the RIU's (there are 3 and all look pretty nice) or the Dreams. I loved the look of the RIU Palace Las Americas and liked how it was central to everything, so my guests would have lots of options to fill their week. I was very impressed with the hotel and the fact that it is a fairly new resort. A little on the pricier (is that a word) side but still pretty affordable for our guests. Although I haven't been to the RPLA before, I have talked to a couple of people that I know that have been down, and they have said that it was a beautiful resort and they had a fantastic time. I've heard great things, so I really hope that my experience is as wonderful! Our trip is planned for the week of February 3-10 2007. And the actual date of our wedding is February 8, 2007. Hope this answers some of your questions. As I get more information I'll pass it along. Tara
  8. I'm getting married at the RIU Palace Las Americas in Cancun, I know not the same place but maybe we could exchange successes/frustrations along the way. I can tell you this. I booked the date of our wedding in early September (our wedding is on February 8th) and I've been trying to get in touch with our wedding coordinator ever since. It has not been easy, but I was prepared as I've heard this from other Riu brides. With the help of my travel agent, I finally got in touch with someone just yesterday. It took quite a bit of persistence on her part as well. After I sent numerous e-mail's and called a couple of times with no luck. My TA sent a few e-mails and still received no response so finally she got in touch with her Sunquest contact who provided her with a name and e-mail of someone that she could contact directly. I'm not sure if you would be dealing with the same person that I am in Cancun, but if you are interested in giving it a shot, here is her e-mail address: weddings01@riu.com and her name is Diana Espino. Good luck, have patience. From what I've read from many other brides, it will pay off in the end. Tara
  9. Like many of you, I would sell my dress if: 1) I knew where to in this area and 2) I thought there would be a chance in heck that someone would actually want it. I do think giving it away to someone who would want and need it is a good idea. I also know someone who had a talented seamstress in the family and who made the dress into a beautiful bassinet for her daughter. I think this would be a great idea, if I only knew someone that could sew....
  10. Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome. So as I mentioned before, I'm getting married in Feb. at the Riu Palace Las Americas. There is still soooo much to be done. I'm trying to select a photographer and have it narrowed down to 2 . Claudia Rodriguez, which I see has been mentioned a couple of times www.claudiaphoto.com and Winnie Vallejo www.winnievallejo.com. Is there anyone that has had any experiences with either of these photographers, good or bad? Also, if there are any other good photographers in the Cancun area that I should take a look at, please let me know. I have a sunset wedding planned on the beach at the resort. Can anyone tell me what would be a good time for the actual ceremony, considering that pictures will also need to be taken afterwards? I've heard that the sun sets a little earlier in February and I since I want the photographer there for at least 4 - 5 hours, I don't want my pic's to end up in the dark...? The forum is great, its such a big help and relief to get everyone's experiences and opinions. Keep them coming and thanks in advance for the help. Tara
