Dw Dress...follow The Rules?

Recommended Posts

As I am sure you all have experienced, the minute you tell anyone you are having a DW there are ideals or stereotypes that come along with it. One of them is the DW dress. When I was shopping, I remember a sea of chiffon sheath like dresses being shown to me and while I love the style and certainly understand why they would be suggested, they just aren't ME. I ended up with a dress that I LOVE and I think will look perfect at our venue but its not your run of the mill DW dress. Its not super heavy but I worry that people will expect something different. I don't ultimately care what others want or think as I know my FI will love it and I love it enough for the both of us lol. Just wondering, what type of dresses did you ladies pick? Did you feel the pressure to pick a certain style or fabric? and if you did, what was the outcome?

I understand what you mean when I first went to look at dresses I had it in my mind that it had to be flowy and all chiffon and beach appropriate.  That went out the window when I went to try them on lol I kept gravitating to the more fancier mermaid type dresses.  I don't think my dress is quite DW style but it fits with our venue and still has a beachy feel to it.  Also I don't really care what people think, I feel GREAT in it!! I say do what makes you feel awesome and it will radiate throughout on your day and in pics. Here is the dress I bought.

I am glad you picked what you loved!  From browsing pictures all over this board I noticed that everyone does just that - what they want. There is a huge variety from casual, to semi-formal, to 100% formal on this site. At the end of the day it is all about what you want and what you are comfortable in.

I had 2 dresses in my mind -- the formal lace dress (found one and it brought me to tears), but deep inside I knew it wasn't what I was going for, for our DW. I wanted something that still was beautiful and a real wedding dress, but I didn't want it to feel too 'over the top'. Does that make sense?  I think I got the best of both worlds with mine.   It is more that DW dress that you mention above, but that is what I envisioned for me.

I am having a hard time using the word formal.  I think your whole outfit can make things more or less formal. IE a veil.  So hopefully you get my just in how I am using the word lol.

Everyone's dress is perfect for them and their wedding no matter how fancy your decor is, no matter how everyone else is dressed, no matter where your ceremony is located, etc.  This I am learning the more I am on this board!  At the end of the day if you are beaming, that is all that matters :)

oddly the last picture isn't my dress lol   The pics of me in it aren't on this computer.

@ I had the exact same dilemma... I was show light chiffon and organza dresses, all a-line.... and very pretty... but just not on me. I ended up buying a dress very early on, and have since sold it. As it just wasn't me! I am now getting a local dress maker/ designer to make my perfect dress! And I couldn't be happier :-). Go with what you feel comfortable in, and what makes you happy :-) after all its your big day!

@@NJBride2014 good luck, hope you both have a fantastic day, and wonderful marriage :-)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
