  1. You're welcome, AmandaBride - glad I could help! Re: booking your choices, you've definitely got some time, but if you're thinking of hosting a private reception there are only 2 locations to do so at the GP, so the sooner you book, the better chance you have to get your choice. I've also booked the Blue Lagoon and I agree with Charlene87 in the reasons why. Maybe chat with your wedding coordinator and find out if there are several other weddings booked on your day so that you have a better idea of what you're up against. Cheers!
  2. Hi Charlene87 - My fiance and I were floored by the DJ price as well - that's just plain RIDICULOUS!! My fiance is really tech-saavy so we plan to take advantage of the a/v set up and just use an iPod loaded with lots and lots of music for the reception. Cheers!
  3. Hi Amanda, We're getting married at the GPLH in April of this year and we dealt with the same questions. The wedding packages do not include the cost of the reception; those fees are additional. Do you have a wedding coordinator yet? If not, you can contact the resort and start asking your questions now - they're usually quite helpful They'll provide you with some options for where you'd like to host a reception, what type (ie: private, semi private, etc) and then give you some price ideas. The price I was quoted per guest was $45 for private reception dinner. Here is the responses I got from my wedding coordinator to give you more info: WEDDING PACKAGES: All our wedding packages caters for 8 guests and you will pay $20 for each additional all-inclusive guest. Offsite guests will purchase an event pass for $70 and children under 12 yrs. will pay $35. The event pass for offsite guests will last for the duration of the event and includes all that is provided at the wedding e.g. meals etc. PRIVATE RECEPTION: As it pertains to a reception, you can either have a private or a non-private reception in one of the restaurants. A private reception can be hosted in either the Poseidon or the Blue Lagoon which can seat from 20 to 200 respectively. It is US$45.00 per person for this option and you will get a set menu for all the guests (a choice from any of the 7 a la carte menus), an open bar, the location for up to 4 hours from 6:00pm – 10:00pm and the flexibility to have a live band or a DJ/music system (please see attached). We also offer a buffet style private reception. These vary in price depending on the menu chosen. I have attached all 3 buffet options for your perusal. Minimum for a buffet style private reception is 50 persons and can be setup indoor or outdoor. A non-private reception dinner can be hosted in any one of the 7 a la carte restaurants; this is at no additional cost, however you will be dining among other guests of the Hotel and there is no option for your own entertainment (background music is provided for the entire restaurant). The restaurants open at 5:30pm. We cannot accommodate a non-private dinner if you have more than 30 guests. Please see attached group restrictions for the a-la-carte restaurants. We ask that you select the menu options before hand once there are 10 or more persons in the group to facilitate a more efficient service. I hope this helps you out! Cheers and GOOD LUCK!!
  4. Hi Brides! We are getting married on April 18th in Montego Bay at the GPLH and we are searching for a terrific videographer for the event. Ideally we'd like to find someone who has a more cinematic style - does anyone have an suggestions/recommendations of some great companies in the area? Your help is appreciated!!
  5. Hi MrsD!! WOW!! We share the same wedding date the resort! Our wedding is on April 18 @ 2pm!! I live in Vancouver and I'm SO excited for the big day - just under 5 months now!! How have you found dealing with the resort? Can I ask - are you using the resort photographer or bringing your own? Looking forward to hearing back from you soon!! Cheers!!
  6. Thanks for the welcome and well wishes! We're really getting excited as the day gets closer and closer I emailed my resort wedding coordinator last week and she informed me of the same thing. We've booked our reception location (which we're super excited about!), now we just need to decide upon our ceremony location, but we're leaning towards the Sunset Beach
  7. Ah - I see Well, we share a wedding date either way Have fun with your planning!!
  8. That's crazy, beachbum21!! What time and where is your wedding taking place? Are you and your guests all staying at the resort, too? How have you found dealing with this resort?
  9. Hi Canadian Girl, We're getting married at the GPJ the same week as you, just a few days later (Apr 18, 2012) and we're doing the same package (Waves of Love) and a private reception. Re: the music, that's good to know about the $200 charge for speakers....we'll have to look into some other options as well. And the cost for decorating is good to note as well! Re: photographers, are you able to recommend some options that you found? We've had a look around, but haven't really found anyone we're that crazy about and we're not really that interested in using only the hotel photographer. Thanks!
  10. Hi All!! We're getting married on Apr 18, 2012 at the GPJ and we are really looking forward to it! It looks like there are lots of people getting married the same week as us, too I've been dealing with our wedding coordinator (Simone and now Loraine) since about June and they have been very helpful for the most part, although sometimes there is a bit of delay in getting responses to us (which our travel agent warned us about) Recently we selected our reception location (Blue Lagoon) and Loraine was very helpful in sending us all the info for the a la cartes, the dining options and even the music options when we asked. I'm finding the best way to deal with them is to write emails with very specific questions - Loraine was good enough to just reply right in the email directly to our inquiries. I was wondering - are any of you brides staying at the resort with your guests? We are doing an all-inclusive for one week with all our guests at the GPJ, but we're wondering if anyone know if we can have the wedding at the GPLH as I know the properties are connected. I found this info really confusing... Thoughts?
  11. Hello!! Very new to the forum! I'm getting married April 18, 2012 at the GPJ in Montego Bay and can't wait I've been working with a wedding coordinator and have just made our decisions on the reception location (Blue Lagoon) thanks to some posts in here - thank you! Wondering: has anyone found some good and reasonably priced photographers in the area that they can recommend? Or does anyone know the name of the photographer who shoots for the resort (included in the packages)? We're looking to get some ideas... Thanks!
