  1. Hello ladies, Jamaican- did you by chance find Rashford Thompson's phone number? I am still on the videographer search. Thank you!
  2. Welcome. Happy Planning!
  3. That would be awesome. I tried to Google Rashford but could not find him on the internet, if you have his contact information I would be very grateful. Thank you! Anyone have thoughts on photographers that work in Negril, Jamaica???
  4. Do you end up finding a good videographer? I am still looking and if anyone has recommendations in Negril, that would be awesome! I am getting married at Riu Tropical Bay.
  5. I am getting married in January (as in two months). I chose the Caprice Package and have added a bunch. We are having a welcome dinner buffet on the beach ($55 per person) with a steel drum band. We are also having a private reception at the Steak House with about 50-65 guests. $12 per chair is too much for me so I am going to stick with the cheap plastic look (I think), or ask the florist. I have to say Ann Marie has been EXTREMELY slow getting back to me and I have only contacted her twice in the 8 or 9 months since we booked. In addition it is frustrating that they make you pay $300 for off site vendors. I still am happy I chose the resort as it gets great reviews on Trip Advisor and Expedia and I thought it was really beautiful, but every place has it's ups and downs (I happen to be currently awaiting a response from Ann Marie after three emails and two calls so I am less enthusiastic today). When are you getting married?
  6. Excellent advice. Thank you! I will head to the Jamaica forum....
  7. Welcome to the forum. I am getting married at the Riu Tropical Bay in Negril in January 2011. Best of luck with your planning!
  8. Pretty Sparklie, I am getting married on the beach. I thought that I could get married at a gazebo anywhere. They set chairs for up to 40 guests on the beach (for $12 you can have individual chair covers, but I am not going to do that). I chose the Capri Package which comes with basic decorations and a few other perks, but I won't get into any of the specifics unless anyone is interested.... If you are choosing between Negril and other parts of Jamaica, I think that the upside of Montego Bay is it's close proximity to the airport, the downside of Montego Bay is that (other then Half Moon which has a long private beach), I do not believe that you can take long strolls on the beach at the other resort in Montego Bay. I also think that Negril is more laid back (it was the last part of the island to start up with tourism) and more relaxing. I also think that not having tons of other brides at the Riu Tropical Bay is a plus because then you are less likely to be competing for the wedding coordinators attention. As I mentioned I looked at a lot of other resorts in Negril (Riu Negril, Beaches, Sandals, The Caves, Couples) to name a few and I thought that Tropical Bay was perfect with it's location at Bloody Bay, the ability to go over to Riu Negril for a walk or a drink and I think that you get a lot for your money. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions about more specifics!
  9. I discovered this site months ago and then forgot about it. I am only two months away from my wedding in January 2011 at the Riu Tropical Palace and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for Vendors 1. Photographer - I am thinking of using Sun Gold. I checked out Tropix but was not crazy about their site. 2. Florists - Tai Floral is the preferred vendor of the resort, has anyone used them? Any feedback? 3. DJ - has anyone used the recommended DJ for Riu Tropical Palace? I saw that one bride recommended using an iPod 4. Reggae band - has anyone used the reggae band? Would you recommend them? 5. Steel drum band - has anyone used the Riu's steel drum band? 6. Saxophone player - we are also thinking about having a saxophone player for the ceremony? 7. Hair and make up? I saw that one bride recommended Debra Baratt of Scissors. Any other recommendations or has anyone used her? Cocktail Hour Did anyone have a cocktail hour after their ceremony? If so how did it turn out? They told me that they could do passed hor d'oeuvres for one hour for $18 per person and then $420 to serve alcohol. I was wondering if it is better for everyone to just head up to the lobby bar which may be more comfortable? Finally, any tips of how to best use this site? I am very confused about how to find the information I am looking for. Thanks so much! If I can help anyone out with the Tropical Palace, let me know!!! Nicole
  10. I chose the Riu Tropical Palace. I went to see about 8 resorts in Negril and I thought that this one offered the most for the best price. I just read a detailed review on this site of a bride who seemed thrilled with her Tropical Palace wedding so I am gettting very excited. Have you been to the resort? If not I may have some information that will be helpful (contacts, details, etc...)
  11. Thanks for all of your welcomes and encouragement. This destination wedding planning is a lot more difficult then I expected. There are so many hotels to choose from, although I did narrow my search down to Negril (I think (-.
  12. Hi My name is Nicole and I am trying to find a good location for our wedding in either Montego Bay or Negril. Any and all suggestions are welcome. We are planning for April of 2010 (but are flexible). Thanks! Nicole
