Do NOT use Mazarte Floral by Martha Zarate - Los Cabos

Recommended Posts

If you are planning to get married in Los Cabos, I would highly recommend that you DO NOT use Mazarte Floral by Martha Zarate as your wedding florist.  We ordered flowers and vases from Martha to create our own floral arrangements for my wedding at Barcelo los Cabos Resort.  We paid her in full before ever seeing the flowers and put down a refundable deposit for the vases, if the vases were returned unbroken, which were returned in the same form in which they were delivered to us.  She was supposed to deliver the flowers to us the morning before the wedding.  Instead, she delivered part of the flowers early in the afternoon and the remaining flowers the evening before the wedding.  Due to Martha's tardiness, our friend, who was assembling the arrangements, had to stay up all night to complete the arrangements by the morning of the wedding.  Additionally, we ordered large calla lillies for the bridesmaids bouquets, but instead received mini calla lillies.  You can imagine how much smaller this made the bouquets.  On top of that, she would not compensate us for bringing the wrong flowers, but instead made the excuse that her flower distributor told her that what she provided us was large calla lillies.  She is a florist, shouldn't she know the difference between large and mini calla lillies?  Finally, the large vases that she delivered were cracked and chipped.  Instead of replacing those that were cracked and chipped with the same size vases, she brought vases that were much too large and wouldn't fit on the tables as center pieces.  Again, no compensation for not providing us with what we ordered and paid for.  Now, I am taking the time to write this review because, after 5 months since our wedding and at least 20 emails to Martha asking for our refundable deposit back, she will not refund the deposit and will not respond to my emails.  Martha Zarate is a fraud!  She will break the terms of her agreement and take advantage of you!  We worked hard to raise money for our wedding and signed a contract, indicating a specific set of services for a specific amount of money.  In the end, Martha cheated us and stole from us!  Please, save yourself the headache, and go with a more reputable, honest florist.

I have to 100% agree with this post. I was married in Cabo at the Cabo Surf Hotel (which was AMAZING by the way - nothing but glowing, astounding, wonderful reviews) in Nov 2012.

I sent Martha (months prior) photos of what I wanted in terms of wedding bouquet and boutoniers. She in turn sent me PDF's of what she could match it to - and they were very close. Great - so I confirmed the contract.

We met in Cabo and I provided the deposit to her in cash.

On the wedding day, a hideous arrangement arrives - wrong colours, wrong flowers - I mean WAY OFF. Not even close. I was shocked. I showed the hotel my images and Martha's images and she agreed, this was a no go. She called Martha and Martha sent some helper to bring some other flowers to assist.

By then, one of my guests had taken matters into their own hands and created my wedding bouquet out of the reception flowers (which were glorious, beautiful roses all purchased from the Cabo Costco - highly recommend!) and created my bouquet and the makeshift boutoniers. We used nothing of Martha's. I refused to pay the balance but of course she kept the deposit.

I have to say, that was the only disappointment in the entire wedding. I would never recommend Martha/Mazarte Floral. She got it so wrong she shouldn't even have this business.

I tried to post earlier but maybe it didn't work? Anyway I second this. Martha let us down - I sent her a wedding bouquet image and she sent back PDF's of how she could match it. They looked great so I signed a contract for the bouquet and some boutonnieres. For the reception we went to the Cabo Costco and bought tons of roses - what a deal! Highly recommend. Gorgeous colours and lots of supply.

I met Martha in Cabo before the wedding and paid her cash for half the order as a deposit.

Cut to the wedding day - a delivery shows up to the hotel - my photos (and Martha's matches) were cream, coral, pink, tangerine, white. What arrived was purple orchids and some orange marigold looking flowers - it was horrific. Not even close. The hotel was amazing and called her as they fully agreed with me and how far off the order was in comparison to the photos. My friend jumped in and quickly made me a bouquet from the reception roses. We threw away Martha's order.

I refused to pay the remainder and of course she didn't push - but she happily kept the deposit.

I would never recommend her nor her company. I can't believe she did such a poor job.

I would say if you can handle the unknown until you get to Costco, the roses (and some other flower options they have) are fine to buy once you are there. I went to Costco 2 days before the wedding, and stored all the roses (12 dozen!) in my hotel sink. It was fine.

Ouf what a nightmare!! My mom is convinced there is flower mafia in Cabo hehe... :) I made my cousin's bouquet last year and I am conviced I could do a better job than some of the flowers I have seen on websites lol I am so torn about it... On one hand I don't want to have to worry about a thing when I get there and on the other it seems like such a rip off that you pay so much for flowers and end up with a bouquet that looks like what the bouquet with which I played wedding at 10 years old....

Nov2013cabowed you gave me great tips. Thanks! Now if i can find your messages deleted with the new website that would be great!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
