I haven't heard from them directly yet.

My travel agent has been in contact with them to get the initial information covered such as what type of wedding we are having (symbolic remember pkg), the restaurant choices (we had 3 choices, italian, med or seafood) and we also had to pick our set menu for ALL our guests as well which was a little stressful ( I don't know how to keep 50 people happy haha).

As for directly speaking to the WC, I am not sure who my coordinator is yet and I have not been contacted directly but sure hope I hear from them soon as of course I have a million questions. I know this is a busy time of year for them with tons of weddings happening during this peak time, so I am just trying to be patient and hope I get in contact with  someone once the rush is over.

Have you been to the GBP before? :)

Oh, ok. We are just communicating with the resort ourselves, our TA isn't handling any of the actual wedding stuff. So, that means, unfortunately, that we don't have anything decided upon except our date yet... its driving me nuts waiting, lol!

We have been to the Riviera Maya, but no, we haven't been to the GBP yet, have you guys??

We were there last April for a week and absolutely loved it! Such a nice resort and I like that its big because you can go adventuring in the night times and check out different entertainment or drinking areas. As soon as we got engaged we knew we would be going back there to get married.

We lucked out with our TA, she initiated contact with the WC for us. Now we just have to play the waiting game for a bit so I can ask all my questions and hopefully get them answered. What airline/tour operator are you travelling with?

If I hear any other info I will be sure to pass it along. Good luck with getting in touch with a WC. I am sure someone will be in contact with you soon.

I remember back when I was first planning everything, I was going to book it all myself and I emailed the link on the GPB website. Someone wrote me back within 2 days. Maybe try that route.

We're booked with Air Transat... how about you?

Since you've been there before, any suggestions on which lounges/bars are the best for lively entertainment after dinner?? We are going to do a poolside reception but will prob want to hit a lounge after.

We've had contact with Paloma, she sent us an email confirming our ceremony date and time and said that we should contact our WC 3 mths before our wedding date. But a few people on here have said that the WC usually contacts you right away, and we're still waiting and it's been a couple months. I'm just anxious i guess... haha!

We are booked with Westjet Vacations. We used them last year too. Westjet guests get some extra perks at this resort :)

We were thinking of doing the pool reception too but I am still having a hard time wrapping my mind around what they charge for this.

I don't have any exact prices yet but by the posts I read on this fourm it looks like it is quite pricey.  But at the same time we want to have something for our guests to do after the dinner. If we leave it til that day, everyone will have different opinions on where to go and what to do.

As for the entertainment on the resort.... I know Coba had something different going on every night near the main lobby. One night was karaoke, another was dancing or some sort. I didn't think much of it. We did head over to the hacienda which is closer to the Akumel resort and they have entertainment there and shopping. The coba had a few different bars that you could sit at and be served drinks. The premier lobby at Coba had a band/singer almost every night and had people up dancing.

The only time we spent at Akumel was to go to the Brazilian restaurant. It was def our fave one out of the 4 we tried. We went a little late in the evening so we couldn't eat as much as we wanted to. My advice, go on an empty stomach!!! :)

I am sure u will hear from them after the busy season. If not send them another email. There is nothing wrong with being persistent.  :)

Will let u know if I hear anything else!

Hi everyone!

We are in the process of booking Playacar Palace for January 2014.

Still waiting to hear back about our travel packages before we confirm the date so we can stay in our travel budget for our guests.

When you guys booked your group, did you have exact group numbers or did you have a rough number you gave your travel agent? We are going through WestJet (found a great priced package with direct flights) but communication has been slow and the guy we are working with never seems to be at his desk when I call, so it's all been through email. We were going to go through a TA, but I just couldn't find one that I liked, and they kept quoting rates several hundred dollars above what I could find online..... I'm getting anxious about getting it finalized faster so we don't lose our date with the hotel.

Love this thread! It's great to talk to other Canadian brides to be! :)

Awesome, thanks Sara!! :) That gives us a fw ideas on where to tell guests to head to if our pool reception ends early. I know what you mean about paying for the reception though... it seems ridiculous to spend all the money since its an all-inclusive. But I try and think about it like if we were doing the reception here it would cost soooo much more.

Ya, i'll probably wait another month or so, maybe into June, and send them an email if I don't hear anything from her. :)

Congratulations on your engagements ladies!  I actually have clients getting married at the Gran Bahia Principe at the end of this year, and they are opting for the semi private dinner at the a la carte restaurant which was included in their wedding package, then a Post Reception Pool Side Cocktail party, it was about $2300USD for full international open bar. Of course the pool will be closed and set up, soft lighting, cocktail table, music and microphone are included.

I hope this helps any Gran Bahia Principe brides out there!

Good luck and happy planning!

-Jill

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
