Planning My Engagement Proposal...Help Please!

Recommended Posts

Hello, my name is Len. First of all, This is actually my girlfriend's account on here. She comes on here and reads all the time because we have decided we are going to do a destination wedding. Her name is Ashley and we have been dating since highschool for a total of about 10 years. She has been my only serious girlfriend and I have to say I fell in love with her pretty quickly into our relationship. I was actually the one to first bring up marraige as a possibility. We have made it through obstacles such as being long distance during university and other things like deaths in the family and her parents' divorce. We have been talking wedding and engagement for quite a while now. We have waited so long because we wanted to be done schooling and have started ur careers first.

So, now that we're ready, the moment to propose is coming up really soon. She found a ring online that she absolutely loved and printed off pictures for me. She is not very subtle when in comes to things she really wants, which I suppose is a good thing for me being a guy, as we do not always pick up on subtle hints. It is a custom ring and is in the process of being made right now. I will be seeing it in the next couple weeks, and if there is nothing that needs to be changed I will take possession of it.

Which leads me to this thread. It will be hard for me to keep it secret from her for very long so I will be proposing relatively quickly once I have the ring. I have been thinking of possible ideas for our engagement and am having a problem on deciding which one would be the most perfect. So, I am here asking you guys and girls for possible suggestions.

Some things to know about her: 1) She is a teacher; 2) She loves dogs; 3) Her favourite colour is purple; 4) She was born on Christmas Day.

Now, since we have been discussing engagement she has given me a list of things not to do:

1) No engagements in a restaurant. (Her dad proposed to her mom in one)

2) No public engagements (Would get too embarassed)

3) No proposing in a parking lot (One of our friends did)

4) No proposing in a car/van (Friend of a friend)

I hope this does not come off that I am not creative or romantic enough because I am looking for ideas on a forum. I just want to see if people would have suggestions I have not thought of yet. I am trying to do my due dilligence to make it absolutely perfect. I am not a perfectionist, but for this engagement I am.

One last thing to note is that we live in the Greater Toronto Area in Ontario, Canada. A trip proposal would be too obvious too because we don't go on many trips. Oh, and we're renting right now to save for a house so we don't have our own place right now.

If you have any more questions feel free to ask. I'm sure I have forgotten stuff I should have included. Thanks in advance for the help!

Hi Len!  I think that since you live together you should do something special for her at home.  It can be very unexpected like a Saturday morning if she is cleaning or reading and you call her into the room.  She sounds like even though she is a planner she would appreciate and like the random surprise of doing it in the home you share.  I am the biggest planner and would love for someone to suprise me with anything!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
