Reviews for Riu Mambo - Puerto Plata

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I looking for and reviews or suggestions towards the Riu Mambo in Puerto Plata. We've received really great quotes from our travel agent and need to book by April 16 to guarantee those prices. We have come a lot of great reviews, but they are more from people who have simply vacationed there, I am looking now for more reviews in regards to getting married there.

Thank you so much ladies!!

Christine

Hi Christine, although I was there on vacation last November, I did witness two onsite weddings. The facilities are not much to speak of. In fact, we shared the restaurant/bar we had our 1st anniversary dinner in with one of the wedding parties. The wedding group itself was quite small (approx. 20 people total) and there was nowhere to go afterwards so one of the guests (or may-be even the groom) pulled out a guitar and they sat outside of the restaurant/bar and just hung out there. There is a disco onsite, but it wasn't open while we were there (November, 2009). Although this hotel is a Riu, it's their Econolodge version. It's small, the rooms are old and dated, you have to get up at 7am to make a reservation for dinner in their only a la cart restaurant (which just so happens to be the restaurant/bar you would be having your reception in). The buffet serves the same food over and over and the food is barely passable. Our "king size" bed was 2 doubles pushed together and they kept splitting apart (so romantic!). If you are on a strict budget and won't be having a large group, this place would suffice, but it's nothing to write home about. I know this sounds very negative, but I felt it was important to share my observations as honestly as possible. If you can afford to go somewhere a little nicer (and there are plenty that won't be much more expensive), then it would be in your best interests to pass on the Riu Mambo. THe Riu Mergengue next door is better, and the Riu Bachata next to that is the best of the three. Good luck, and hopefully some brides who were actually married at the Mambo can give you the real poop.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
