  • 5 months later...

ive been to this resort in October 2009

it was great!

i think its changed hands since then as its called something different now from when i went - it used to be called occidental grand playa tarquase. so if you are looking for reviews try looking under that name... also some services might have changed!

it was an average 4 star... we had fantastic service! we went to all the a la cartes, as only one was open per night.... and we enjoyed the service... and we are very open to new food ideas and are not picky eaters...

the beach is so so in holguin...

there are a TON of stairs at this resort so keep that in mind

we were there in low season and went here because we got a super deal, less then 500 each with taxes in!

i dont remember there being a wedding gazebo and i didnt see any weddings the week i was there - however... i think there were only 250 people at the resort which is 1/8 full

have you booked already???

let me know if you have any specific questions

Thanks Jessie!!!!

We are booked for the middle of Feb.  So far we have just under 30 ppl coming :)  I have been in touch with the wedding coordinator and I like everything she has given me to look over so far.

So great to hear that you enjoyed your time there.  If I think of anything I will ask

Thanks!!

Ahhh the Melia, that is where we got engaged  cheesy.gif

It is a beautiful resort, make sure you hop on the "train" and go to the "town" or it's a $5 taxi ride.  I'm sure they will explain it to you if you haven't been before.  We went one day when it was raining and I have to say I have never experienced Bowling like they have.  Very high tech!!!  We considered going back there to get married but we love cuba so much we wanted to go to a place we haven't been to yet.  The only think I didn't like at Melia is if you have your wedding on the beach you have zero room.  The beach is beautiful but a bit narrow so you are up against the grass area wall and in the middle of all the speedos.  But they do have many other places to choose from as well.

I have been reading the reviews on the Turquesa and it looks like the new management has really improved things.

If you want any specifics on Melia, let me know.  I have lots of pics too

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
