I must first explain that we are an "old" couple: we've been a couple for 14 years, living together for more than 10 years. We have a house, joint accounts, and would have children if it had been possible. I've always wanted to get married, but my BF did not feel it would change anything, so I let go of the idea over time, feeling our commitment and our love was the most important thing. We also didn't like all the organization and drama surrounding such an event, as we're quiet and laid back.

When I first saw the idea of a beach destination wedding, it looked so much like me and my idea of a quiet & beautiful wedding that I brought it back. Finally, on my birthday last year he voluntarily told me we should go for it next spring. I know he's doing it for me, but he's doing it, and he did "ask"... So now here I am, planning this.

I mainly want to keep it secret not to hurt anyone beforehand. I know our parents will probably be a bit sad not to be part of this, but I want it to be a moment just for us. I think I'll just mail pics on the day we come back to surprise everyone. (My friends who are "in" made me promise to have pics taken, they even threatened to send money in the mail!) I just hope no one will feel pressured to get us any gifts.

And I have a question. For Jamaica, the formalities are very simple, but since our birth certificate are in French I need to get them translated & certified. Does anyone have a reference or prices for such a service? I'll send out a few e-mails next week otherwise.

Well I love your idea. I don't blame you 2 for never wanting to jump into the big drama in just planning a wedding .

I can understand why it'd be very nice in your situation to have it just the 2 of you. I think it'll be very nice. I personally can't wait to see your pictures.

We originally booked Jamaica, but then soon came to the realization if we wanted people to come Jamaica wasn't going to be the place as it's more expensive,but if we were doing what your doing we could have So here we are getting married in Punta Cana.

If I am not mistaken you can do all of that at the city hall.. Maybe not the one in laval but like the 'head office' downtown.

We too would've liked Jamaica because it looked awesome, but we can't justify the price for us or our guests. My mom got invited to a DW in Jamaica and she said no because of the price (that was before I got engaged, now she has a double reason for saying no. ).
