people don't like their picture taken while they are eating, so it's better for the photographer to take a break & eat. It is a really physically demanding job. I don't know how wedding photographers keep up after 6-10 hour days of shooting. By dinner they will definitly need to sit down & take a break.

The easier you make it on your photographer, the better they will be able to do their job so the better your pictures will be. I'd talk to your photographer about what they prefer. Some like a table with the other vendors so they don't need to socilize, but can spend that time backing up pictures, making a slideshow, etc. Some like to be fed earlier so they are ready to go for the cake cutting.

Typically contracts will say vendors need to be fed if they are there over 4 hours. Our videographer was only around 1-2 hours so we didn't feed him. He probably preferred just to get home after our ceremony. Our dinner wasn't until a couple hours after he left.

Speaking from experience, it's nice to have a real meal (preferably hot, but this is not required) and not have to eat a protein bar for dinner. :) And, it is common practice to provide a meal for your vendors. As far as the type of meal, it's best to speak with your caterer and find out how much more (if any) it would be to provide the same meal as your guests will receive. If it would be kinda pricey to provide the same meal, they should be able to provide a less expensive option. If you are having a buffet, the caterer or hotel probably wouldn't charge much more (if any) to include your photographer.

It's best to make sure they are seated in an area where they can keep an eye out on what's happening so as not to miss anything if they need to get up quickly to capture a moment.

Your photographer will definitely appreciate the fact that you fed them. :)

Hope this helps.

Best wishes,
Tod

I couldn't agree more with Tod. A lot of times (even more so with destination weddings) the photographer is up and shooting by 10am and goes on shooting for a few hours at your reception, that's usually 12 hours of wedding day coverage, with (maybe) a protien bar to snack on during that time. Like someone else mentioned, while you are eating, the camera is usually down, because not too many people like photos with food in their mouth. :-) I' am sure they would thank you, for any food that you provide them.

how long are they staying? If it's not a long day, I can see where some people would prefer to leave instead of stay for a meal.

Well, is the resort AI? If it is, maybe they will just go and grab something at a local buffet or something. Honestly I wouldn't want to leave my wedding, in fear I would miss something. I guess I wouldn't worry so much about the DJ, only because he's not working for very long, however your photographer is going to be with you all day. (Well assuming you hired them for full wedding day coverage, if it's only for a few hours on your wedding day, then I wouldn't worry about it)

They will both be there from 2:30pm to 11pm. I kinda feel like I should just set up a table for them and if they eat they eat and if they don't they don't.
