Legal Marriage Question

Recommended Posts

First I promise I will post some photos soon. I've worked 10 days straigth since we got back from the honeymoon! I got our legal marriage liscense translated to English and received it in the mail today. Where do I need to take it so that California recognizes our marriage? Thanks for your help.

I don't know that this will be much help for the above brides, but we are going to get married in July at the Hilton and they told us a legal ceremony would have to be in Spanish and we wanted it in English, so that would just be a "blessing ceremony." So we just got married by a retired judge here in IL. We went to our county and got a marriage license ($10) and then paid $200 for a retired judge to come to my mom's house and marry us in front of all our parents. Then after a few weeks, we got a certificate from the same place we got the license and now we are legally married and ready to go to Mexico and have the ceremony with no snags. It's not what we thought we would do, but it definitely took the pressure off. We are legally married now, but the ceremony on the beach will be our anniversary date and the one that matters with all our friends and family there.

I have the same question! Although I did not get married in Mexico (I got married in Grand Cayman), I tried to register it in our local courts, and nobody seems to know what I need to do to make sure the marriage is valid in the US. I've been researching this for days, and I've only found info on the legalities BEFORE you get married abroad--but what about afterward? Help please!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
