hi everyone, this is my first post and i'm new to this forum (or any forum)- I decided to post since I'm the first of my friends to do a DW so I don't personally know anyone w/ first hand DW experience and I've read great insights on this forum about the process. I'm getting married on 7/13 at iberostar del mar. We chose to do a DW b/c it seemed like less planning than a regular NJ ceremony/reception wedding and would also be more us -super casual. Now with a hundred days to go and everyone asking how the wedding planning is going - I'm wondering if there should be more to it than out of town bags for our guests and what we thought was the best part - simply "showing up" to our wedding ceremony and having a great group vacation w/ our closest friends. What should be considered in preparing for a destination wedding? So far it seems that all options are prepackaged. Can anyone suggest unique touches to a 5 day DW?

Congrats on your upcoming wedding and welcome to the forum! The beauty of a DW is that all you really have to do is show up.......that being said, I'm sure you will come up with tons of idea's once you have looked around here a little bit!

welcome3.gif Congratulations! I also chose to have a destination wedding for the same reasons. I am getting married the day before you at Dreams Cancun. All that I've done so far other than rings, attire, and invites is the OOT bags. I've also looked into bringing some things down to make my own centerpieces, because I don't think it is worth it to spend the $$, but thats just my opinion.

Good luck and happy planning!

Hi and welcome to the forum! I agree with the other ladies, the best part about a DW is that you don't have to do anything but show up. I didn't even pick colors cuz at the end of the day anything in these locations is beautiful!

I would start by looking at any planning threads you can find. These are the threads where the brides take pics of everything they have done or made or bought in prep for the wedding. They are a lot of fun and will you give you inspiration of what you might need.

The only other advice would be to find out what your location provides and let them handle that. Then pick your colors if you haven't already and worry about your clothing (You, fiance, wedding party, etc), hair, makeup, cake, favors, OOT (out of town bags) and any other little touches you want to add. Just remember the more you try to add the more you have to get to your location.

Good luck and trust me... we will be here to help!

Congrats! I am getting married at the IB del Mar on June 20, 09! You might want to add a welcome letter to the bags for guests so they know what to do in the area. We are giving guests options to join us for a tour if they want but we didn't want to plan everything out since it is their vacation.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
