Reception advice for Turks and Caicos wedding

We have 3 independent wedding coordinators on island, Nila, Teresa from www.tropicaldestinationmanagement.com and Dianne from Islandharmony.com (I believe that is their address).

 

I don't think Point Grace has a dedicated wedding person etc. I do know that of all of the weddings done on island, we don't do a lot at Point Grace. Some hotels for whatever reason don't want wedding business (although recently we have been getting calls from hotels asking for advice on how to get into it).

 

Point Grace is lovely and quiet and more intimate. You may have better luck working with them from one of the coordinators on island.

I booked the hotel and the flight with a Travel agent in NY. You could go through NILA and they will definitely get in touch with Point Grace and do everything for you. As far as the wedding costs (my reception at Grace's Cottage) I went through my Wedding coordinator from NILA.

I am just begining my process. I was considering Nikki Beach, Gansevoort and Regent Palms. Regent Palms has been above and beyond what I would have expected in regards to service and we have just yesterday decided on them for the ceremony as well as reception. I have a lot of info if anyone needs any. I also would love any suggestions for rehersal dinner. I have found you can get better room rates yourself if you work them a bit rather than having coordinator do so for you although it is a huge headache..

What do you want for your rehearsal dinner? # of people etc. Ideas I have seen, Since you are doing the wedding and reception at Regent Palms, a lot of brides do a buffet down by the pool deck just before the beach there. I have seen others use Kissing Fish catering at Bay Bistro and do a barbeque and bonfire on the beach. (Joan from Kissing Fish is very switched on). If you want to do something more "local" I have seen people taxi over to Blue Hills and go with Horse-eyed Jacks. (open air restaurant on the beach, in a more local area...good music etc but long taxi ride for Provo). I have also seen people go to Coco Bistro (my favorite restaurant) and book tables for that (renting out the whole place is expensive as they are booked solid all year round). You could even check with Nikki Beach or Gavenvoort for a rehearsal?

 

Also another popular option is a sunset cruise... Ataberya (Sun Charters - Sailing charters in the Turks and Caicos Islands) and Sail Provo will do private charters. You could get Kissing Fish or Regent Palms to do some sort of wraps or Picnic style food and have rum punch and sail around. Unless it's really rough they'll pull right up to the hotel on the beach.

 

Hope that gives you some other ideas.

Hi again Krys

 

Is it a mistake to have the rehersal at parallel 23 is that too much Regent? I dont want to really get into cab rides and make things complicated. Is there anywhere close in relation to the Palms that is walking or near walking distance. I really wanted a formal type feel a really nice dinner because people are coming so far. It should be about 25 people....or so.

I am all for making it easier for guests vs harder. I haven't seen a rehearsal at Parallel 23 but have seen quite a few lovely buffets out on the deck by the beach near the pool for brides staying at the Palms. It's great eating and watching the sun go down and the buffets always look tasty. The dinner at the reception will look and feel a lot more formal in the reception room above Parallel 23, I kind of like a little bit more sundress/dressy casual feel by the beach and then watching the sun go down with background music and seeing the stars on the water for a rehearsal but that is a personal opinion.

 

The other option would be dinner at the Sommerset, which is smack dab next door and wouldn't be a far walk at all. They have the restaurant O'Soleil. That would be the closest and only one to walk to.

 

IMHO, unless you are having a sunset cruise where the boat comes to get you off of the beach, it's a lot of hassle getting everyone shuttled somewhere else...having it at the Regent Palms makes it easier for everyone especially you! Whether you want it more casual or more formal is up to you!

I was thinking the ballroom or ballroom terrace for the actual reception? Any ideas as I said in the other Thread where at the Palms for reception and ceremony?

What I was saying is to just have dinner at parallel 23 right outside sitting at the tables. I dont think I need a private event for the rehersal dinner do I? Otherwise the beach barbacue can work I just wanted it to be super good food. I want the guests to know they spent money to come and I am spending money on them when they are there. Maybe O'Soleil would be better? Obviously they would not offer a private affair I would assume.

The ballroom/ballroom terrace is the reception room I was talking about for the reception, we're on the same page on that.

 

With just 25 guests, you could easily do some tables at Parallel 23, it's a lovely setting or you can go with O'Soleil. I personally can't comment on the food at either (our favorite restaurant on the rare occasion we eat out in the evening is Coco Bistro), but I know from many friends that both are good choices food wise and are similar in price range. Both are more garden type settings as well so it's really 6 vs 1/2 dozen the other.

 

The great thing is you have plenty of time to decide that option. Once you hear from the Palms, ask about menus for a beach buffet and menus from Parallel 23. I think from there you can decide. Believe me, anything done at the Palms will leave your guests feeling well taken care of!

 

Wedding ceremonies are usually done at the beach to the left side of the resort just past the walkway. It works well as there is a platform by the walkway if you have musicians who need to set up and when the guests are going to the reception there is a foot rinse area right off of the beach so they can get the sand off. You can see the photos on our blog if you do a search for regent palms to get an idea of the location. (It's a beautiful stretch of beach as is all of Grace Bay)

 

With the number of people you have, you don't need a private event for the rehearsal, I would expect you will just need to make the reservations and I am sure the coordinator will handle all of that!
