Cash gift registries

Recommended Posts

I searched and didn't quite find the answers I was looking for; many of the threads were old. I know of Honeyfund, but we don't want to use that because our wedding is essentially our honeymoon. Not that honeyfund must be used for a honeymoon, but it seems odd to ask people to essentially pay for your wedding trip. I also didn't like that when I gave someone a gift through honeyfund, I was basically paypaling my friend money. I know that ultimately that is what is happening, but I'd like it to be a little less transparent and a little more "gift-like." We are going to register for a few "real" items (because we believe that is what some people want to see on a registry) what we most want is money if someone is going to give us a gift. So I have been looking at cash gift registries, and wondering what people's experiences with them have been. We figured it might help to identify a particular need for that cash fund, and we would like to buy a camper, and also need some house renos. So far, I have found 3: http://www.depositagift.com/ http://www.uponourstar.com/ http://www.myregistry.com/ Are there others? And does anyone have any experience with any of them? Any general advice to share? Thanks in advance!

I think if you somehow convey the idea that you'd prefer a monetary gift as opposed to an actual gift, particularly to some key people, they will pass the idea on to your guests without you having to feel awkward about addressing it (as I well understand).

We didn't have a registry at all for our wedding. I had a blog post that laid down essentially what we wanted for wedding gifts which was: 1) We wanted nothing but a card with well wishes since they were traveling to our DW and that was gift enough; 2) if they really were compelled to give us a gift, we appreciated gift cards to our favorite stores (and I listed them) or cash towards some fun events for our weddingmoon. And I left it at that. I also explained that the reason for this sort of registry is because we are practical people and being older, we already have all the things we want; we are also picky about what we buy so we'd rather do the buying ourselves instead of being restricted to a "registry", and then we can purchase things during a time that is stress-free. My friends and family understood that so most people ended up giving us either gift cards or checks (some gave us cash in a card).

Thank you for the idea. We also woul prefer monetary gifts since we're having a reception back home and have a lot of things at home that we already need. I've been trying to find the best language to use to incorporate this.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
