Pros: Quick at email replies
Cons: Did not give good direction during group photos, poor image quality, below average photography skills

We received our photos about 5 weeks after our wedding as per the contract. We received a total of 200 photos (5 hours of shooting) on a CD.  We expected more photos as he had an assistant there shooting as well.  The photos were all unprintable as they were thumbnail sized quality.  The photos were so highly compressed, they looked grainy and showed compression artifacts.  We noticed that only a handful of our photos (bride and groom photos) were edited with special effects.  The rest of the photos were untouched.  Close up shots looked awful as no facial touch ups or softening were done.  Group photos looked bad as well.  Juan and his assistant did not give any direction and let people stand where they wanted (large gaps in between people) and did not let us know when he was going to take the picture so often people weren't ready and looked awkward in the photos.   Majority of the bride and groom photos looked the same.  It was basically the same pose with a different background.  Or it was the exact same photo but cropped 2-3 different ways.  He even included photos where people had their mouths open, eyes closed or hair all over their faces!  He also sent us photos with his assistant in the photo, when he should have been cropped out of the photo.

We emailed Juan with all of our concerns.  After two days, he sent us a link with ALL of the photos (397 photos) in actual high resolution.  Despite receiving the higher resolution photos, some photos were still grainy because of his in camera settings he had shot the photo with.  Hlee had set his camera ISO so high (which was completely unnecessary as he had an external flash), that the grainy images can not be fixed in post photo processing.  Our friends could have taken better pictures with their point and shoot camera! Even after complaining about the photos being unedited, Juan did not do any facial touch ups or editing.  He only sent us a copy of all the photos he had taken.  If that was the case, why did we even wait the 5 weeks if he was just going to send us a dump of his memory card? We regret tipping him $100 US that night.  He did not do anything special or a good job for us.  During the wedding, Juan was nice but he wasn't personab.  He didn't try to get to know us or engage in conversation much.  He was just there to take pictures.  I had done extensive research on Juan before booking him.  He had raving reviews except for one.  Unfortunately, we could only relate to the one bad review that was posted.  Our photos did not reflect any of his work that was posted on his blog/website.  He seems to post all his sneak a peak photos on his facebook page and our wedding doesn't seem to be posted on there at all!

We were able to salvage our photos as we have experience in photo editing.

In summary, I would NOT recommend Juan Navarro.  He may offer reasonable prices; however, beware, they are low for a reason!

I am so sorry to hear this Betty, but am so glad that you were able to salvage some of your photos. I'm also glad that you posted an honest review of Juan's services, so that other brides can make decisions about photography with as much information as possible.
