  1. @@carolynbauto starting on January 19th is another music festival called Crash My Playa. It's a country music festival. I think people are arriving prior to that to the resort so will be pretty packed again. No concert on the night of your wedding but the resort will still be pretty full. We scrambled and have found a new resort that is available on relatively short notice. Thankfully they don't have anything going on like the Barcelo. Phew!
  2. @@carolynbauto @@TaraW RUN!!!!!! My wedding date is January 14, 2017 and I have just found out why the resort has sold out. There is a 3 day Phish concert during my wedding. This is bringing in over 5,000 people for 3 days in a row. It is not only the Barcelo resort, but they are also bussing in people from 6 other resorts. What a nightmare. And what makes it worse....Barcelo is not disclosing it to their brides. @@carolynbauto Google Clah My Playa. If you want your wedding to be overpowered by a bunch of country music stars with their concerts and a bunch of random people, then by all means keep your wedding on that date. And for those getting married a few days after that, there is a music festival of ex-Grateful Dead bandmates. So if you want a resort who doesn't care about your wedding and doesn't even tell you about these events that are happening at the same time that will overtake your "spotlight" then by all means keep on planning. Otherwise, RUN!!!!!!!! I am not having my 40+ guests paying all that money for their vacations to just be ruined by thousands of roudy drunk people. It is not spring break. It is not Woodstock. I have just been in touch with my agent and we are now switching resorts. My guests don't deserve this.
  3. @@smfahey You are lucky! We already had the dates booked, deposits made and half of our guests had already reserved their packages when we found out. So we couldn't change anything. And since we had only blocked off a certain number of rooms (since we thought we would add more if we needed to) we basically had to tell our guests it was first come first served. Once our rooms were all used up, no one else could go. I was really angry. I am hoping that they don't use all of their rooms and some will open up closer to the date just in case i have any last minute guests.
  4. I have no bad things to say about this resort. We had a great time and there was always something to do. However, I am getting worried about our wedding because the resort and airline put a stop sale in place for the exact dates that our guests were supposed to travel. There is some sort of event going on that has reserved/bought out the majority of the resort. The problem is, no one will tell me or my agent what it is. This also means that we can't have any last minute guests or anything because no rooms are available. I heard back from my WC last night about having the mint package and just paying an upgrade fee to have an outdoor venue. He came back saying that they could do it for $30 USD per person. But I am guessing that that only includes the venue upgrade and NOT the food upgrade. I'm waiting for him to clarify that so I'll let you know in a few weeks LOL! The beach wedding was what I wanted originally but they basically set you up on the most popular part of the beach. So basically there are people tanning all around you, children running circles.....I feel like it just takes away from what is meant to be a special moment. Oh and if there is some sort of aquaeorobics going on then all that noise travels too. My WC also mentioned that if they have the linens and stuff that I want to use on site then they are already included in my price. If I am wanting something that they don't have, they will have to rent from an outside source. So again I'm hoping he will get back to me and let me know what my options are. I thought about the lights too. Will have to look into it a little bit. As for cold, it all depends. When we were there they went through a crazy cold snap the entire week so people were even wearing scarves and sweaters during the day. I'm not spending the money on the dance floor. Since we are doing it inside one of the open air grills, their floors are just fine for dancing. No need to spend that extra money.
  5. @@smfahey Yaaaaaay! I'm glad I'm not alone! Have you been to the Barcelo before? We were there in February and loved it. I can't believe you read through everything. I started from the most recent and worked my way backwards but there's just sooo much. Everything I read has been super helpful. We originally chose the Mint package but have now found out that to have the wedding in an outdoor grill we need to upgrade. I'm kind of annoyed because I don't need all the silly extras like the premium wrist band and stuff. So I am trying to convince my WC (Abraham) to let us just pay a bit extra from the Mint package just to have it outdoors. Fingers crossed.....but I probably won't find out until he responds in about 3 weeks LOL! We are having 41 adults and 4 kids. The price difference per person between the Mint and Strawberry also seems a bit ridiculous. The bulk of the menu options are the same so I am not sure why it's double. For the ceremony I have asked to have it on the cliff overlooking the water by the Palace. I saw some beach weddings when I was there and was absolutely turned off by them. I'm finding it hard to do any planning since they take forever to respond. I want to order some decorations and linens but until I know the location, table sizes, prices they charge etc. I can't do anything. And I don't want to wait until last minute because I need time to have things shipped to me. Oh well, I hope you are having better luck than me! So far I was just given my options for cakes, bouquets, boutonniers and huppa's. Waiting impatiently.....
  6. Hi everyone! I am getting married at the Barcelo Maya Colonial on January 14, 2017 and need all of the help I can get. This website has been super helpful! Has anyone used the DJ that the Barcelo offers? Also, I don't really see why there is such a huge price difference per person between the Mint and Strawberry packages. Has anyone been successful at having the Mint package and just upgrading to an outdoor grill without paying for the Strawberry package? Thanks!
