  1. Thank goodness for this thread! I love the way the fake eyelashes look, and when I have somewhere to go I usually buy them at a drug store and put them on myself, and I end up frustrated and at the end of the night the lashes are falling off. So since everyone on here seems to recommend MAC I will look into that brand for lashes! Maybe the stylist at the hotel can put them on for me too.

  2. My fiance and I are getting married November 15th, 2013 at Excellence Cancun!!! We can't wait!!! I have some questions about the hair salon and make up for the day before and of the wedding. I wanted to know if anyone had advice or if I should bring a picture for the hair stylists there. I wonder if its going to be difficult to request certain hair styles. Hmm...Any advice?

    :)

  3. Hi everyone! We are getting married at Excellence Riviera Cancun on November 15th! Our photographer has been booked, Lori at Sweetfire, and we've booked Mannia as our DJ. Passport invites have been ordered from Allurements by Rebecca and are being printed this week. We're getting there! Can't wait for the big day! Where's everyone going for their honeymoon? Are you staying at the resort you're being married at or going off to somewhere different after the guests leave?

  4. Shellyanderic, we found a vendor on ETSY for passport wedding invitations called AprilTwentyFive. They are really nice and we think we are going to use them. We were going to try a DIY passport wedding invitation but my FI surprised my with samples and they look fantastic. You should check them out.
Shelly also check out Allurements by Rebecca. She is on etsy and is very on the ball. She is doing my passport invites!!!!
Thanks for the vendor suggestions. We decided to work with Allurements by Rebecca. She has been very quick and professional and we would highly recommend her for anyone looking for great looking passport invites. We just approved the final versions and they should be printed and sent to us within a week or so. We'll post photos of them once they arrive! :) We gave out our Save-the-Date's in October of 2012, and are mailing out our invites as soon as we get them, so everyone will have them by mid April with a July 15th RSVP. We figured that's enough time since our wedding is on November 15th. Hopefully everyone will be prompt and get right on booking, so we don't have any room deposit headaches, but judging from what everyone's saying, maybe we should expect a bit of last minute bookers.

We're on the 15th, sounds like November is getting pretty booked up. :)

  6. What type of engagement party setting are you planning on having or already had?

We chose the Pearl Room which is in Bay Ridge Brooklyn. A native from Bay Ridge and with a ton of wonderful and tasty restaurants to choose from, we decided to go with Pearl Room, a high end top quality food friendly atmosphere.

My mother and my FI's mother catered this event for us. Although, we did all the setting up and decorating and favor making, but hey, that's the BEST part!

I wanted a beachy theme. We went to Michael's and looked around for ideas. I love mason jars and the different creative ideas you can do with them and bumped into the cutest smallest jars that have latched lid.

They came in a box of about 30. We looked for sand and sea shells and found them right there in Michael's.

I then thought, ok we have the STD's which were a flat card front and back. So we found wooden sticks and we would cut them to fit perfectly on the side of the jars.

So now that I had the jars figured out, the sand, the wooden sticks, oh and the string I had regular rope string that I used its beige and created an even more beach feel to the jars.

We also decided on buying mini bottles of Yellowtale (or whatever your preference) wine. We bought tule in two different colors, one aqua blue (beachy), and one white.

I cute pieces of the tule to fit around the mini bottles of wine and wrapped a ribbon (any color you want but chose white) to hold the tule around the bottle of wine.

We put the bottles of wine on everyones table in front of their plates. The STD's were placed on a requested table that was in the front of the party room where the gifts and envelopes were set. As people left, I had my mom and mother in law give out the bottles of wine and made sure everyone had their STD!

Here are some pictures, hope this idea was helpful and let you explore your own ideas and creativeness. :)

Our Banner that we put up at the party. We made this banner at Staples! Who knew?! lol

  7. I was just watching something on the news about Yoga for dogs!  A little off topic but a chance to get in tuned with yourself and doggie.

What a great way to get together with your friends and their pooches and learn ways to help your dogs as well as yourself.

In the New York area here is a facebook page with info on where there is yoga for dogs in the NYC area:

Great Article to gain info on Yoga for Dogs:

What an amazingly creative and great way to help your dogs and yourself. If you are a dog lover like us, you'll love this type of class with  your dog.

Can't wait to get my friends together and try this out! If anyone would like to get together and try this out please let me know! I would love to create a day out with my BDW friends :)

  8. Our wedding is November 15th, 2013.

We love the idea of the passport invitations and think that our guests will fall head over heels once they receive them.

I am currently looking for different site and places that make these types of invitations, looking at samples and getting ideas.

When is everyone starting to get there invitations ready?

When is your wedding and how long in advance are you sending out your destination wedding invitations?

I would love some input on this topic, January is ending and we need to start shopping for our invites! :)

  9. We love love Mexico. We got engaged down in beautiful and peaceful Tulum, Mexico at the hotel Cabanas Tulum.

If you have never been in that area of Mexico and you love peaceful, beautiful beaches, hotel rooms that allow you to feel like you are literally in paradise because the rooms have the option of balcony suites or ground hotel rooms that are steps from the ocean, you will love Tulum. We especially liked this hotel because the staff was so welcoming and friendly it was hard to leave! The minimal amount of people is for the best, it allows you to really be in tuned with the person you are with, to get to know them, enjoy the quiet and beauty around you, and to just be.

While my fiance and I were having our drinks on the cool bar  swing seats, we were talking about how people who need  to be around a lot of people and like loud and busy surroundings, wouldn't like Tulum because it is so laid back and of a relaxed environment. You make your own fun, you get to know yourself and your partner and its just such a rejuvenating experience.

Getting proposed to in the candle lit star lit sky, with only the sound of the ocean was perfect and just what I dreamed of. When I think back to that night of a delicious 5 course personalized dinner which my fiance picked out all the food for the evening and the chef at Ziggy's restaurant cooked  to our liking.

The way my fiance had the hotel staff set up the room to look like a princess was coming, was so wonderful. The hotel staff helped and made sure everything was done right and actually put effort and creativeness into it as well. How great is that?!

All in all is if you are interested in a place like Tulum, to walk the beaches and enjoy each other with not so many people around and to get to know nature and be free of the business of everyday life you will love this cute little town. We felt safe and at ease, and there was nothing that went wrong and everything that went right :)

If you have any questions please feel free to ask away!

  10. Any brides from the New York or surrounding area, come join me and share your advice, opinions, pictures, and stories. We are so excited and would love to hear from  other brides who are also planning their future wedding. It is a happy and exciting time but can also be confusing and a bit stressful at times. But this site BDW helps to give us brides the support we need and information that helps us stay informed and create the ideas that we come up with. :)

Really!? We will check it out thank you so much the passport idea is so cute and we can't wait to look for the perfect invites. Thank you for the advice and update! :) I will check them out today with my fiance.

That is also a good idea too!

The main idea is to not leave anyone out because there are so many firefighters in his house, and we know that many might not be able to attend, but inviting them all would be nice. Never know, might be a big turnout, I am sure stranger things have happened hehe.

  13. We are getting married November 15th 2013 in Mexico. I have no idea where my father is and haven't spoken to him which was on and off anyways but for about 6 years now. He disappears and cannot keep up with trying to find him and his number and he hasn't reached out to me and I've had the same cell phone number for many many years. So at this point I am offended and saddened but what can I do? I can't force someone to reach out and I've tried so many times to rekindle whats left of any type of relationship but was told in his words, he was too young when he had me and to not contact him, but that was years ago that he had said this. But I of course kept trying to make him want to have a relationship.

Anyways, my wonderful grandfather and my uncle have been father figures in my life since I was a child. My grandfather is elderly (90 years old) and although he wants to and would love to come to Mexico, we aren't sure, health wise, if he will be able to attend. I asked my grandfather if he would walk me down the aisle, but I also asked my uncle as well in case my grandfather isn't able to come.

My uncle was very excited and my question is, lets say my grandfather is feeling up to attending my wedding and health wise is able to walk me down the aisle, which we all don't want to put pressure on him, if they both do attend would it be weird if I had both my Uncle and Grandfather walk me down the aisle?

Also any suggestions on a keep sake "will you walk me down the aisle" type of gift?

Thank you for any advice! :)

  14. Hi Everyone,

We had our engagement party a little while ago so we decided we wanted to have our save the dates at each person's setting on the tables, but also be able to mail them as a traditional card for anyone unable to attend the party.

We are having our wedding in November at Excellence Riviera Cancun, so we wanted a unique, rustic beachy feel for the STD's. We found the miniature mason jars at Michaels and added some sand and a few shells in each jar. The created our cards via the DIY site on Staples and were very happy about the results. :)
