  1. Hi ladies, Just an update from my wedding. After discussing the song list with the FI and our DJ, we decided not to do the "official" mother daughter dance. Mom and I did however, have an awesome dance off during the middle of the night out of spontaneity. It was a lot of fun, and everyone just gathered around us on the dance floor and cheered us on. In retrospect, I am happy that we did not have a scheduled plan with the dance with mom, and we just went with the flow.

Any decision you make ladies, just keep remembering that it is your wedding and your memories that you will cherish forever. Good luck with all your planning!

  2. Hey ladies,

I am back from my wedding at the Barcelo and it was everything I hoped it would be plus some. We had 97 people in total join us for our spectacular day! It was amazing and beautiful and I wouldn't have changed a thing. Barcelo is such an incredible resort to get married at. My husband and I were busy this last week moving into our new home, but stay tuned, I will post my review soon. And as soon as I get my professional photos I will share those as well.

If anyone is thinking about starting their website I used ewedding.com and LOVE it so far. SUPER easy and they have nice layouts. I paid about $50 for the year and got to choose my own domain name etc. Just a tip! I know there's a bunch of ways to go with the website...but I'd for sure recommend this.

We used weddingwire.com. It was very easy to use and navigate through and make pages and add info and pics. And it was free!

What colour did you get? We got the Sodalite Blue.

For anyone considering these dresses, they are FANTASTIC.. I wish I had bought one for myself! All of my bridesmaids love them. (Although I think one is going to try to hem it up.. I guess you can't please everyone!)

These look awesome. So many options

We did it :)  What an amazing week.  Everything went off without a hitch.  The weather was perfect and the memories were unforgettable.  I'm so sad it's over ... today was so hard.  Enjoy every waking moment girls.  It goes so fast!!!

Congrats! You look amazing! Such a gorgeous setting

WOW! I am so glad this was brought up! I've been thinking of a Mother-Daughter dance, as my mother has been my only parental figure for most of my life.

And Every time I hear "Mama's song" by Carrie Underwood, I think of how perfect it would be.

My younger brother is walking me down the aisle.... as I asked him to when I was like 12y/o.

So I thought a mother/daughter dance would be nice for my mom. (My step dad and I are "close"... but not huggy-close... or "dance with each other with everyone watching" close....)

Anyways - I wasn't sure if a Mother/Daughter dance would be weird....? You never hear of it.... and you don't often hear of two women dancing together (I mean, without getting into a gay-marriage debate or anthing... Love is Love... But I mean... you know what I mean....)

When I heard Carrie Underwood's "Mama's song" it made me want to cry. It would be the perfect song. I also thought about singing it, but my emotions might get the best of me on that day. I love how the lyrics are bang on! I'm just trying to figure out when we would have this dance... Our first dance, then The father/dauther dance, then the Mother/son dance and the Mother/daughter dance seems like a lot of dances that people are just looking onwards and I wouldn't want them to get bored.

Me and my dad didnt have the "best" relationship growing up. But we are close now. ( Now that I have moved out and we arent around eachother and fighting all the time lol) So I want to have "one " thing with him being the dance, And I figured Id have both my parents walk me down the aisle.

I asked my mom if its something she would want to do. Because I didnt know if she just wanted to watch me come down the aisle with my dad or if she wanted to be a part of it. At first she said to ask my dad, But then she thought about it more and decided she wished she had her mom and dad both walk her down the aisle at her wedding. So I will have them both walk me. Thankfully my parents still get along even though they are seperated. They still love eachother and im sure would still be together if they could get a long for more then short periods of time. But it is what it is. My dads "friend" or "gf" is coming to the wedding. And she is a great lady. I really like her, i feel bad though Because my mom is coming alone. I just hope drama doesnt unleash its self lol

Strangely enough, its my mom and I that usually butt heads and in my dad's eyes, I'm his perfect angel. My parents do not get along very well, and I fear there will be an outburst at the wedding. But my FI and I have already had a talk with each of them separately to ensure that they would be adults and not cause a scene and realize that they are there to celebrate our love and union. My mom insists that she walk down the aisle with my dad and I, but this is something I would like to keep traditional. It is frustrating to always have to say no to her. But that is why I'm now considering a dance with her instead. Hopefully she feels that she is included and I'm not leaving her out.

I am still deciding on my dinner menu, and I'm thinking of having surf and turf but ordering an extra platter of another variety of food from the menu to give my guests a little bit more variety, I'm wondering if anyone has done this and if it cost extra?

Also, I have about 6 guests who don't eat seafood, yet I want to have the surf and turf, if any of you have chose that option, were the guests that don't eat seafood allowed to just have the beef without lobster tail?

    Thanks :)

For those that have a shellfish allergy (myself included), I am selecting another dish. My wedding coordinator told me that as long as I give them the exact # of which dishes (eg; 65 beef, 10 chicken, 5 vegetarian) then the kitchen staff can prepare the food. They can accommodate, you just need to ask and let them know.

  8. Just be patient. They are very busy planning multiple weddings a day/week and with it currently being wedding season, they are even more swamped. Just rest assured that as your wedding date comes closer to, you will get faster responses. Keep in mind that it is a very "laid back" attitude in Mexico and this can be frustrating for us who are used to immediate replies. Have you picked a package, because the food options differ between the Mint/Strawberry packages etc.

We did the iPod and made our own playlists, ill attach them here. The sound system they have is incredible, massive speakers and we controlled the volume, it was perfect! we put only the two playlists on the ipod and that was it, dinner and then dance, this way even if someone wanted to look for music or change the song it didnt matter, it was all our music. we had no issue with anyone doing this anyway, just one rather intoxicated older guest who was at one time 'looking for 50's music' lol, we said no there wasnt any!

We considered the dance floor but after considering cost and asking around on here about people's opinion on it we went with dancing on the sand as everyone had said such great things about it! Some people kicked off their shoes, some didn't, but all had an amazing time. They completely rake and made sure the sand is soft with no rocks or anything.

    Here are our playlists:

I ordered these little "keychain" sand vials from oriental trading co. and then created the little tags to go inside.  They turned out really cute!!!

These are so creative! I always love bringing back sand from my travel destinations. Did you glue or tape these to the inside of the jars?

She works out of her home. Another bride on here in Calgary had her bridesmaid dresses done by her as well. If you are interested I can give you her number.

Yes please PM me her #. All I need is the bustle

    Patcaz,

We originally had Claudia as WC while planning the wedding, but when we arrived to Barcelo we was switched to Ruth. She is amazing young lady and we cannot be more happy to have her as WC. She did such an amazing job from first appointment when we arrived till last minute of wedding reception.

Also from my e-mail experience with WC, don't ask them a lot of questions in one e-mail. I found out it was so much faster (2 day respond maximum) if you will ask them only one or two questions in one e-mail.

I've noticed the same thing. I have been emailing Claudia one question emails and keeping each topic separate (eg; one email is solely about location, ceremony details, dj questions, reception, flowers etc.) This way it keeps everything organized and easy to find answers when I'm looking back. She has been great in response time and my question is always answered. Bottom line- keep each question/email simple
