My Wedding Review of Iberostar Grand:
Hello all, just got back from my wedding at Iberostar Grand and it was AMAZING!!! You guys have nothing to worry about!!
I got married on Saturday, July 14th and had 46 people there including 6 kids. We had guest at mostly the Grand and Suites which wasn't a problem, we just walked over to the suites pool, which is right next to the grand (short walk on beach).
Wednesday:
We arrived at around 3:00 to our beautiful room and were upgraded from Ocean View to Ocean Front (but I like Ocean View more). We met our butler right away and told us we could have anything we wanted in the room (liquer wise). At about 5:00 we met with Janielle and she had everything I wanted written down and I was able to make some last minute changes. She showed us all of the possible locations for the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception. I felt much more at ease after I met with her.
Thursday:
Most of my guest arrived this day. A week before I arrived I emailed the guest relations dept about having a group dinner. Since I had guests staying at all three resorts, I decided to arrange a dinner for 43 people at the Hibachi restaurant in Rose Hall Beach. we were able to get a 9:00 reservation. The food was great and everyone had a good time.
Most of our guest were tired but some of us went to the Mango Walk disco afterwards, guests from all 3 resorts could go there.
We also met with Rev. Gordon in the afternoon. He told us he was unable to do our wedding and gave us another minister, I think his name was Robinson or something like that.
Friday: We had a rehearsal, run through in the afternoon which went well. We had a bonfire on Friday night from 8-10pm which was amazing. We had a DJ who played great dance music and everyone's requests. We also had a fire eater, which everyone loved. It was a lot of fun!! we had an open bar set up on the beach for our guests. It was one of our guests birthdays so we had a cake also for her. I made t-shirts for all of my guests to wear that night also for a group picture. Definitely one of the highlights of the week.
Saturday: Wedding Day - We all went to the spa at around 12:00 for up do's and makeup. All resorts use the same spa also. I had a trial done back home and brought a picture with me. they also had tons of pics to choose from. The girls in the salon do amazing hair, everyone's came out beautiful. We also got our make up done there and they did a great job, it lasted all night.
We got back to our rooms at around 3:00 and it had been pouring rain for 3 hours so I was very nervous. Luckily it stopped raining at around 3:30 and the ceremony was able to take place outside. My photographer, Stacey Clarke, arrived and took pictures of us getting ready. She was great!! Our ceremony was to start at 5:00. I had made a CD of songs to play as everyone was getting seated. then the ceremony started. James and I had put the whole ceremony together, we used a script we found on this site and edited it to fit us (let me know if any of you want to see it). The reverend followed the script word for word and did everything we had wanted. It was beautiful.
After the ceremony we had a champagne toast and then our guests went off to the coctail hour. the bridal party stayed to take pictures. We only made the last five minutes of our cocktail hour unfortunately. the coctail hour was on a platform overlooking the beach. We had a steel drum band who were awesome and used the Jamaican menu for our hors d'oeuvres. At 7:00 we had the reception in the Port Maria Restaurant (which is the beach cafe during the day). they did the place up beautiful. We used one of the buffet menus and the food was delicious. We did the tradition wedding introduction entrance and the DJ did all of the M Cing. We did all of our special dances right away and then did dinner and cake. We then danced the night away, I paid for the extra hour of the reception. We had a 3 tier cake which was delicious.
When we got back to the room the butler had decorated our room with rose petals, candles, and a fancy bubble bath. We also had champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. The butlers had surprises for us in our room most nights, they were great!! Janielle and her assistant were there the whole reception and were great the whole time we were there.
Sunday: We did a trash the dress with our photographer, which was great I highly recommend!! I wore a different dress. Can't wait to see the pics! Janielle checked on us and brought us all of our decorations.
Tuesday: We did a couple's massage which was awesome. And then we had a private dinner on the beach. Unfortunately it was extremely windy that night but we made the best of it. The food was amazing.
Overall the week was awesome!! Nothing major went wrong and Janielle and her assistant were great. All of you future brides have nothing to worry about! My only reccommendation is BUG SPRAY!! the mosquitos are out of control!!!!!!!! Enjoy your planning and let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I would be glad to help!

Does anyone know how many people can sit at a table at the Port Maria Restaurant for the reception? I figure you guys will get back to me quicker than Janielle.
thanks
-
55 people and you can't have a private reception? at the Grand you get a private after 30 people!

i posted my planning thread today, under "Cathleen's Planning Thread"

I've read all over the place that building 6 is not nice, very old.
@tgreen I am super stressed too, but I am the opposite, not the biggest planner. Thank God for this site or I would have no idea what to do lol. I have my OOT bags and welcome letter done. Now I am working on the ceremony itself, readings and stuff. Not quite sure what I am doing. Janielle has been a little better since the time has gotten closer but she takes way too long to respond to emails, which is annoying. How are you bringing everything down to Jamaica, are you shipping anything?

Hello Everyone,
I leave for Jamaica in two weeks and am very excited. I am so happy I found this site, just wished I started using it a little earlier. I want to thank all of the past and present brides for all of their great ideas and templates. I couldn't have done this without all of you.
Engagement:
James and I started dating in November 2001 and have dated on and off since then. I always knew he was the one but he was a little bit relationship phobic. But I knew he would eventually see the light and never gave up on him. We got engaged on November 4, 2011 at his apartment.
We had started discussing getting married in September and decided we wanted to have a Destination Wedding due to the fact that we were looking to buy a house at the same time and wanted to keep our wedding costs down. We booked our date at Iberostar Grand Rose Hall back in September. There were only 3 dates left to choose and the Suites was already booked up.
Save the Dates:
We created our save the dates on Kodak Gallery. I had taken a picture in Bermuda of us looking out from an infinity pool and wanted to use it. I thought it showed us looking toward the future.
Invitation:
I wanted to do the airplane ticket theme and had looked all over the internet for ideas. (This was before I knew about this website unfortunately.) I found a great company online and used them for my invitations. http://www.thestylishscribe.com
Here are some pics of my invite:
Pre-travel letter:
I didn't do any sort of luggage tags. Unfortunately I found this site too late but I did send out a letter to all of my guests with some basic information. I used letter that I found on this site to help me.
OOT Bags:
Now to the good stuff, making my OOT bags. There were so many great ideas on this site that I wanted to incorporate. I have become obsessed with these bags and have probably spent way too much money on them but had a lot of fun doing them. I am having about 50 guests at my wedding, each family/couple get a bag filled with goodies.
The first thing I purchased were the bags:
I bought them from http://www.zazzle.com The more bags you buy the cheaper they are. I paid about $9.00 for each bag. There came out great and are perfect for my guests to carry down to the beach with them.
The next thing I ordered were t-shirts for all of my guests. We are having a Bonfire Beach Party the night before our wedding and I wanted all of our guests to wear these shirts for a group picture. I ordered them from http://www.logosportswear.com and they came out great. I paid around $7.00 for each shirt. And again the more shirts you buy, the cheaper they are.
I also ordered koosies from http://www.totallykoozies.com . They haven't arrived yet, I will post a pic when I get them. They ended up costing about $1.00 each.
The next thing I worked on was my survival kit. I found so many great ideas and templates on this site.
I used Ziploc gallon size bags and printed the labels using a full label sheet (2 labels per sheet) and stuck them right on the bag.
Each kit contains:
Sun Tan Lotion
Aloe Vera
Toothpaste and toothbrush kit
nail file
chapstick
razor
Bandaids
Shout Wipe
Advil pack
Imodium pack
Trident gum
tissues
2 bags of chips
I bought most of the stuff at the local dollar store.
I used a template I found on this site for my chapsticks and tissues. I used full page labels and cut out the labels to fit the chapstick and tissues.
My other project that I worked on was my key tags. I bought the lanyards and plastic ID holders off of Amazon.com.
I used a template and poem I found on this site. They came out great.
Photography Postcards:
Welcome Books:
I found the template from another bride on this site. I included a picture of each our guests so that everyone can get to know each other.
The OOT Bags were so much fun to make. Thanks to everyone on this site for all of their great ideas.
Cake topper:
I bought this on Bed, Bath, and Beyonds website and used my 20% coupon.
Foot Jewelry:
I wanted the girls to be barefoot for the ceremony so I purchased this foot jewelry on Ebay. It was about $20 a set. They are really cute.
Well that's it for now. I will post more in the future. If anyone needs any templates please let me know.

I am paying $2000 for bridal bouquet with roses, 4 BM bouquet, 7 centerpieces, 9 grooms bout. , flower girl basket, flowers for 3 girls hair, signing table centerpiece, and a few other random things plus there was an $85 delivery fee

I am getting married at Grand on 7/14, I finally sent my list to Tai Florist last weekend, it took them a week to get back to me with a quote. They sent me a spreadsheet and description of everything. I don't think you are allowed to use any other vendors except for photography.
-
I can't wait to hear about it. 3 weeks till mine:)
-
So glad your wedding was great. How was the DJ? Did he do the MCing too or did you have to get a family member to take care of anouncing dances? I am having 51 people also. Still haven't heard back from Tai florest yet either!

I am getting married in a month and am trying to do a wedding program. Janielle takes forever to respond to emails and I was wondering how people were doing their programs. Do you have a ceremony order? I am looking for ideas. i want to do a fan program.

You have been an inspiration to me. Can't wait to hear how the wedding went. I am getting married there in a few weeks and was wondering if you shipped your OOT bags supplies there or carried them in your luggage?
