Has he spoke to his girlfriend about what rings she may like? I think he can at least get an idea of the type of ring she is looking for without actually taking her shopping. Or, have someone (maybe you or a good girlfriend of the bride-to-be) try and ask her what she likes. Does she have any sisters? I'm sure they might have an idea of what she likes or could at least get it out of her without being too obvious.
I think the idea you mentioned is interesting but I'm personally not a huge fan. Does he have to pick the rings out online? I would highly recommend that he sees the ring in person so that he can see exactly what it looks like, see the color in person, look for any imperfections, etc.
Another option is for him to at least pick the diamond and ask the jeweler to put it on a standard setting. He can then tell his fiance that they will go and pick out the band together. One of my friends did this and it worked out great!
Good luck to your friend! Either way, I'm sure they'll have a beautiful engagement, wedding, and happily ever after

Something Old: I wore a ring from my great-grandmother
Something New: My wedding dress
Something Borrowed: I borrowed my mom's garter from her wedding day - so special!
Something Blue: My 'Something Old' and 'Something Borrowed' both had blue in them

It's always been my understanding that the women's name goes first until you are married. My name was first on our Save the Dates, wedding website, return address stamp, etc. Now that we're married, I always put his name first

I wish I could go back, it is sooo beautiful! I'm sure you know that they are currently remodeling so some rooms and restaurants are closed, but it should be complete by your wedding AND you'll get to enjoy the newly designed rooms which will be amazing.
Like I said above, the resort is surrounded by water... every direction you look you see the ocean. Can't get much better than that!
I went to both the Stables Beach and the Kuilima Cove, both amazing locations. The one thing about the beach is that if it's high tide, they may not be able to do a ceremony there. However, they always have a back up and I believe the back up in that situation is to move you to the lawn right above the beach. Don't worry, you'll still have an amazing view of the ocean, it's still only feet away.
I think it's great that you are moving the reception to Kuilima Cove, that way you'll see two different sides of the resort. The view from the cove couldn't be any better! Your pictures are going to be amazing.
The food was really great, we enjoyed Surfer The Bar, Ola, and Lei Leis. My husband and I loved how you could either have a quiet night near the ocean at Ola's, OR if you are interested in being a little more lively, Surfer The Bar has live music several nights a week. Of course, Surfer The Bar has amazing views of the ocean as well and we even saw several whales jumping out of the water!
Have you ever been to the North Shore? I really enjoyed the laid back feel of the North Shore, away from the hustle of Waikiki. My hubby and I are huge fans of LOST, so it was fun to see where several scenes from the show were shot.
Haleiwa Town is a short drive away in case your guests want to try out restaurants or do a little shopping outside of the resort.
How long are you staying at Turtle Bay? Will you be going somewhere else for a Honeymoon? Let me know how else I can help!

Hi! In case you have any questions, I just started a new thread here: http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/85106/turtle-bay-resort-brides-post-here.
I got married in Santa Barbara in 2011, but I took a site tour at Turtle Bay and met with their wedding coordinator. Turtle Bay is GORGEOUS and I can't wait to get back there soon!

Hi BDW Brides! I just got back from a lovely vacation at Turtle Bay Resort and thought I should start a thread for all of our Turtle Bay brides!
If you are thinking about getting married in Hawaii, Turtle Bay Resort will not disappoint! The resort is on a tip of land so EVERY single room has an ocean view. Our room overlooked the pool on the west side of the resort. They are currently going through a remodel (which wasn't a problem at all during our visit) and all of the rooms should be complete by Spring this year!
I was lucky enough to meet with Pura who took me on a tour and showed me every single ceremony and reception location on site. They are more than happy to work with every couple, learn their budget, and choose the best spot for them. Locations include: Kuilima Cove and Point, Kahuku Terrace, The Wedding Chapel, the Stables Lawn and Beach, and the 18th tee. While walking around, I thought it would be a hard choice for brides because each location is unique but just as beautiful as the next. Special Note: Turtle Bay Resort is the ONLY resort in Hawaii that was granted permission from the Department of Land and Natural Resources to service beach weddings decorated with arches and chairs.
Click here for more information on their packages and to download their wedding kit.
I'll be writing a full review on their resort page soon including information about their beaches, food and more, but please reply to this thread if you have any questions! Who is getting married at Turtle Bay? Let's hear from you
My pictures don't do the resort justice, but here are a couple more:
The beach at the 18th tee, with Turtle Bay in the background.
You can't beat their beautiful sunsets!! -
I have to agree with Wedding Cancun and mandjphoto. Le Reve is a beautiful boutique hotel with 25 rooms. I was lucky enough to visit Le Reve in December and thoroughly enjoyed my time there! Here is a picture I took while enjoying lunch by the pool:
If you are looking for an intimate setting, this is the place to go. The wedding coordinator, Arlenis, told me how a lot of their brides/grooms book the entire hotel which makes the wedding week/weekend even more special as all of your loved ones are in one location. Le Reve is a BDW sponsor and you can find out more about their hotel and view images from past weddings HERE.
Good luck with your wedding planning process and let us know what you decide!!

We were lucky enough to go to Bora Bora on our honeymoon! We stayed at the Le Meridien....so beautiful! I would LOVE to be there right now!!
While on our honeymoon we saw a wedding take place on the beach. The bride actually arrived by water; she was in a small canoe that took off from her overwater bungalow. It was an intimate wedding with just a few guests. I would definitely recommend Bora Bora as a wedding or honeymoon spot! You can't beat that amazing turquoise water! Take me back!!

Hello beautiful brides-to-be! I'll be heading to Turtle Bay Resort in a few weeks and will be meeting with the wedding coordinators to learn about their packages and take a tour of the ceremony and reception locations. Any brides out there planning an Oahu wedding? Where are you getting married? Let me know if I can help!

I'm just worried how it will turn out planning from so far away. Did you get your wedding planner after you signed your contract? Did you also get a discount for your room? Did your guests book individually or did you have a travel agent?
I'll be heading to Turtle Bay Resort in a few weeks! I'm going to meet with their wedding coordinators and check out the ceremony locations while I'm there. Let me know if there is anything you'd like me to ask them and I'll be sure to take some pictures and post them on BDW once I return

Also, I saw this awesome thing at the last 2 bridal shows I went to. It was a framed mirror where the guests used a pen to write their names, and it was actually an engraving pen. Has anyone else seen this?
Hi! I did the thumbprint tree at my wedding and it was a hit! We have it hanging up in our apartment now, it's like a piece of art and so fun to look at We simply set our canvas down on a table so that it was easy for our guests to write on. We set up the ink pad, pens, and wipes on the table along with some flowers. Don't forget to provide some kind of wipe so that your guests don't have to walk around with ink on their thumbs. Our table was right near our escort cards so that when the guests were walking into the reception they picked up their card and left their thumbprint. So fun!

Engagement pictures also look really nice on a wedding website!

Thank you!! Love the gray and yellow color scheme! Unfortunately, I don't remember what brand they are but I know I bought them off of Amazon and they were very reasonably priced Yellow shoes are super fun, I loved how they looked in pics. We also bought all of the groomsmen yellow and grey argyle socks!
