the more research I do, the more I want to go to a different resort that is adults only. the wedding will include kids, and after hearing that some kids just run wild (as i'm sure i would have too) i'm looking forward to some adult time with my new hubby!

Top Gun & Dirty Dancing. what can I say, I'm a child of the 80s ...
-
wine or if i'm going all out, Blueberry Press ... yum! just sweet enough so you can drink them all night long, or as long as one can last drinking vodka (which used to be a lot longer than it is now, I have turned into a light weight in my older age ... ;-)

He's 34 and I'm 30, so 4 years and 2 months (he's sept & i'm nov).

I am also a lover of wine. I used to drink red in the winter and white in the summer, but ever since moving to San Diego and not really having a winter, I lean towards white. My favs are just about anything under $15 that the FI brings home with him!!! ;-)
It's nice because Temecula (not quite as known as Napa/Sonoma, but has some pretty good wines) is only about 45 minutes north east of us, so we try to get up there often. around my birthday month we went just about every weekend and surprisingly, we got a little sick of it. so we've had a nice 5 month break and when my mom is visiting next week, we'll be back up there for some more fun!

HI! I'm in San Diego and would love to meet up with fellow DW brides!! My wedding is slated for May 17, 2013, but things could always change (as they already have). I haven't picked a resort yet, but hoping to do that within the next couple weeks so STDs can go out about a year before the big day! YAY! So exciting!!
I'm originally from RI and came to SD via Washington, DC ... I take a while to make a decision, but have finally found my home in Southern California and the man of my dreams!

HI everyone,
I'm also considering DRC, and have found that many of the resorts tend to nickel & dime for certain things. Some are worse than others, so i'm trying to figure out the "cheapest" and "prettiest" resort. Silly me, I thought that by having a destination wedding that we'd actually save money. Not really looking like that, so i'm coming to terms (next up, explaining all this to my mom! wish me luck).
Linkn - I have heard of some couples paying for the photographer to stay at the resort for a night or two. Is this not something that you do? Do you have a list of resorts that don't have such strict rules on outside vendors?
Thanks and Happy Planning!

HI Aubry,
Not sure if you're still on this forum or checking this post, but your shoes were AMAZING!!! Where did you get them?
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and big day with us. I'm still trying to pick a resort and reviews like this help very, very much.

chrisdior - my original date was going to be March 27, 2013 (3.27.13 - i just really liked the oddity of the dates ... weird, i know, but i had no idea how to pick a date when this all first happened and our "anniversary" date currently is Sept 27, so i thought we'd have our wedding on the 6 month anniversary ... ) so now i'm thinking May 17, 2013 .. going to stick with the "odd" dates ..i think may is cheaper than april, at least in mexico. and the opposite here in the states!
So very true, abs824! and do you mind if i ask, are those your initials? because they are mine, at least for another year and a couple months and while i'm happy to give up my last name and i am going to miss my initials!!
CourtandMatt - i must agree! now that i have come to terms with changing the date (after all, it is just a date and we can celebrate our anniversary whenever we want).

Elissae - Good idea to skip the cost of Save the Dates! My FI and I didn't want to do Save the Dates, we found it to be a cost that was not necessary especially since we are sending invites so far in advance, but his mom wanted them and so she paid for them, which was very welcome.
soonCB - CONGRATS and welcome to the site!! I am also getting married in Jamaica so yay to Jamaica! With regard to wedding planners - my TA acts as a wedding planner. Have you found a TA yet because you should make sure your TA does destination weddings
mrsrepp - Thank goodness you found that out now. It is a national holiday with two days off so many people head to the beach and prices will go up! May is a great time!!
-
Looks like I'll be changing my date too. I'm bummed because I have gotten rather attached to the date I originally picked, but after talking to multiple people, they said that Easter Weekend wasn't a good time to get married in Mexico, as it is a National Holiday there ... so looks like we'll be doing mid-May as well. I just hope this saves all of us (me, parents who are helping out & guests) save some money!! Trying to look at the bright side of things ...

We are also in the midst of looking for a new resort since we had originally picked the Barcelo Palace but almost of the guests found it to expensive and we where having a hard time getting anything form the WC I emailed a month ago with no response. I also found that most other resorts have more reasonable wedding packages. It is hard though since I had my heart set on it for a long time.
We are looking at the Dreams Riviera Cancun and The Now and the Gran Bahia Tulum. The Dreams is so far my favorite, and the they have been great with my questions so far. Any advice????
Also, I too was having a hard time getting prices form my TA even for Feb, she gave me prices for this year but said that I can't get next year until August. She suggested Air Transat and they have a pre booking number thing but we still can't book until August when the prices come out. Maybe I should look for another TA.

ok, question time: the very first wedding i was in (but none since then and i've been in a LOT of weddings), the bride had a lace up back and those of us that were her attendants vowed to NEVER have a lace up wedding dress for our weddings as it took us 3 times to finally get it right. but i see so many of you with lace up dresses and am now wondering if that's the way to go. thoughts? comments? would love to hear why you chose to go that route. thanks!

Katie & Alicia - thank you both SO much for sharing your stories. I'm sure it wasn't easy, but know that we're all routing for you & your FIs. Sending good thoughts & well wishes your way! =)

I think that it is amazing that you two are powering through this, being positive, and planning your wedding! When you two are standing up there getting married next year, the journey you've been on will make it all just that much more amazing on your special day!You bring up a great point about their being a thread for people dealing with illness in the midst of planning their wedding. I have actually been ill for the past year, and off work. I just finally got back to work a month ago, and I was immediately full steam ahead to plan my wedding, since I was heading back to work and feeling better! We had originally wanted to get married this year, but an entire year of being ill really did set us back. I went through many tests, specialists, more specialists, and a whole lot of boredeom and stress being off work and ill. It drove me nuts to finally be engaged, and not be able to plan my wedding
I thought I was in the clear to start planning the wedding since I was finally back to work and had the next year to continue to get healthier....only to be set back the past week and a half with my illness. I was so inspired by your post, because just today I was thinking to myself, that perhaps I should postpone the wedding yet again. I really do want to power through, because I don't want to wait one more day to marry my man, and spend a week in the sun with my dearest friends and family.
Here is to health and happiness for all brides, and grooms out there! Thanks for sharing your story - and again, I wish you and your FI all the best!
Alicia

LOVE your dress! who is it by? and how great that they packaged up your dress for you! thats awesome, i'm definitely going to ask about that when the time rolls around.

I have no idea what they did, but it was nice. Then we could put my dress, and our shoes and FH outfit all in our rolly carry on bag and no worry about carrying them around.

amazing!! i'm definitely sold on the TTD!! thanks for sharing with us!

When is spring break over? i'm looking into March 29, 2013 and was hoping/assuming that they'd be done by then ... anyone know? My school always had spring break the first week of March and the bigger schools in my area were the week after us (we were a small private college in southwestern VA).

This is such a great idea and I'd LOVE to get in on the fun!! Our wedding is March 29, 2013, but the place hasn't been determined yet, somewhere in Riviera Maya/Playa del Carmen is where we're focusing. And I live in San Diego, CA. Any other information you need to add me?
PS - JayKay, I love your bouquet! Did you use the resorts florist or did you bring them with you?

The place I go to does something similar, but with paper towels. They wet & freeze them and use them throughout the process it keep it cool. Feels so great! I just had my 2nd session yesterday amd it hurt a lot more than the 1st. I had a different nurse and think she used a higher level than the first one did, especially since I didn't see really any results after the first time. I used a groupon for it, so I'm happy that I got a deal.I've had my arm pits and brazilian area done, I found the numbing creams didn't work that well for me, taking some ibuprofen before hand helps a little. But the best thing I did on my own, was put some water on a maxi-pad, put it in the freezer, and after the bazillian laser, put the cold pad on, feels so nice!!! -
I'm sure ill get plenty of comments, but I think it'll be more because its a destination in general opposed to Mexico. But all of our parents are on board, and they mean the most to us.

This is great, thanks bride81 for starting it!! I'm still trying to decide on which resort, but am leaning towards Dreams Riviera Cancun (I'm trying to read the entire thread before making that decision, but it's like 850+ pages long ... ). Maybe I should just bite the bullet and pick it ... anyone else as indecisive as I am???
