We are getting married this Sunday at Dreams! so exciting! I wanted to know how many of you tipped the wedding planners right off the bat (at initial meeting) and how much money? We are going between $50 and $100 and wondering what everyone else did. Thanks!

We tipped at the end.  :)  Although my planner left after the ceremony and turned it over to the banquet manager so I think we tipped her before she left.

    Thanks

Congrats!!  Saturday is my 1 year anniversary from my wedding at Dreams!  You will love it.  We used a credit card but be aware it will show up in pesos on your statement.

They will give you a final price list and you can negotiate if you need to.  Best of luck!!  Congrats!!!!

It really was amazing.  Nothing went wrong the entire trip.  Everyone still talks about how incredible it was.  We wouldn't have done it any other way and I can't believe it's been almost a year.  I still watch that video like every day.  haha.  Thanks!

My Travel Agent has advised to me book a translator but I'm not 100% sure I want to do this.. especially if the ceremony can be spoken in English! Your replies would be greatly appreciated, thank you :) xx

Hi!  Here is a link to our video at Dreams Riviera.  The woman in the voice over is the minister.  This was a symbolic ceremony only but I believe she can also do legal.

Sooo... I have been posting for the last probably 2 months that we could not get in touch with anyone about our July 21st wedding since the departure of Evangelina. Even our travel agent contacted her resort rep who contacted other people at the resort and still nothing. Then, at 3 months to the day we got an email of a wedding packet (most of which we already had) and it assigned us our planner Georgina.

Great I thought! Finally! Well.. no such luck. Our confirmation has the time off and also a charge for the Seaside Grill which is not on our original confirmation, So I sent Georgina an email... nothing. My fiance emailed her... nothing. We both have emailed the DJ... nothing. I emailed the spa... nothing. We are 10 weeks out and we have nothing, literally nothing, but the trip booked and times and locations (which are not 100% right).

I quickly realized that the packet email we got was received 3 months to the very date of our wedding and it is probably something automatically generated. We started emailing beginning of April and have heard nothing ever again. In fact I have not hear anything since we left our deposit.

I am now going to begin calling and I am so out of mind angry at this resort it is not even funny. I haven't even gotten there yet and I don't think I could recommend this place to anyone due to the horrible horrible horrible planning. I am a second time bride. Honestly, I am not obsessed or emailing them over paper lanterns or cake flowers... I know that stuff can be worked out there. But my reception time being wrong..? Charges I didnt know about? A DJ that is not answering? Hair/Makeup appts I cant get made? I have truly had it. It is ruining this whole experience for me.

I'm really sorry to hear that!!  We had such a great time there almost a year before you.  I know many brides have probably reassured you that it will be fine once you get there, you can dispute charges and usually they try to compensate.  I suggest calling the resort.  It's a pricy call but worth it because someone always answers the phone.  Try not to worry!  Once you are there you feel like royalty!

So Excited we leave next Thursday.  Gina has been my wedding planner and although she takes some time to get back to me everything has been good.  I'm not too worried as she said we can figure out all the details when I arrive.  There is another bride that has the wedding on the same day Eyeball 17...I'll see you there.  BTW I changed my ceremony time to 4pm vs. 5pm so no one will be rushing, and I'll be at the salon at 10AM.  None of my bridesmaids will be getting their hair or makeup done at the Spa so it'll just be me.  My mother will be there at 12pm to get her hair and make up done.

Anyway I'm pretty laid back and this process has been great vs trying to do an at home wedding.  This forum has helped me with a lot of decisions of my wedding and I want to thank all the past brides who have posted their experience.  I will post a review when I return, I will be there for 10 days so I may see a few more brides.

Have a fabulous time, fellow NJ bride!!!  You will love every second of it!  Congratulations!

My FH and I will be getting legally married the day before we fly down. None of our guests know except for his mother and brother and my parents and sisters. Its Top Secret! Lol.

So my question is: Has any of you done or will be doing a symbolic ceremony? If so, does the resort offer a substitute for signing and finger printing the marriage certificate?

I know its misleading but I would like our ceremony to be as authentic as possible.

We did that and yes you sign a marriage certificate!

I had three camera men.  I think he used the same style camera but it is the editing quality.  The "shaking" in the beginning of the video is an editing technique called a time lapse where they shoot an area for hours to see how the weather changes and then speed it up.  I would just make sure you are very specific about what you want with them.  I think I was sort of annoying with them but I got exactly what I wanted.  :)

His website is just www.mikecantarellfilms.com  :)

What do you mean shaky?  Mine isn't shaky.  Mine is the second link.  The first link was the other bride from my day.

He also has Cancun Wedding Video and Mike Cantarell Films.  The latter is wedding cinematography while the first is just videography.  I am not sure what you mean.

my final copy came in 2 CD's ... it was broken down to me getting ready ( not the guys which i also think was a little wierd he didnt go to them ), the ceremony, the photo shoot on the beach, the cocktail hour, the reception ( speaches and set up ) and the party aspect.

Oh what a bummer!  I wonder if that was a 2013 change?  My video was broken up in a similar way.  I had Mike and two other guys though.  The other bride that day had just one guy.  Her highlight is on his vimeo, I think.  Maybe because he was on his own?  I am sorry to hear you werent entirely satisfied!

I will write a review soon though I promise!!!

ANyway I just received my wedding video from Mike Cantarell and I would say i am about 85% happy lol I am very picky.. some of the sound quality was a little poor ( just for a few minutes during the reception ) and my cocktail hour was him basically filming the mariachi trio which was not what i pictured.. i thoiught it would be more of my guests mingling and the cocktail hour was beautiful ( on desires terrace ) and i dont think he really captured that aspect at all. it was like a mariachi concert lol i thought maybe he would get my guests to speak and so forth but that part was just dissapointing. also he didnt use most of the songs i sent him ( he asked for about 7 songs ) and used like maybe 4 total. I would still recommend that company however ( my video man was Eduardo )

I did not receive a highlight video from them that I thought I would receive. I know girls on here had posted their videos and I wanted to post mine but he never sent me anything except the final copy via mail. Does anyone know why this might be? does it come later on? Also I wish I would have paid for one extra hour because I had 5 hours of coverage and it did not get my cake cutting ;(

Overall though I think my wedding was amazing- I loved the pool deck and my beach ceremony. I think it is the perfect location. My gurests are still talking about. Also the resorts DJ played great music ( we sent a list ) and i dont see any reason to use an outside DJ. The food was excellent was well.

Here is my slideshow for anyone who didnt see it.. photographer was Santiago

I didn't get my cake cutting either.  :(  I just asked Mike for my highlight a zillion times and he sent it.  :)  Was there a highlight on your final copy?  Ask if they can just upload it for you!  I'm sad we can't see it!

I'm really glad we did that before hand so we could semi-relax before the wedding in Mexico. I didn't want to waste 4 days getting blood work, going and getting paperwork done, etc. It was enough going to all the meetings with everyone.

Everyone is different, but I'm really glad we did ours the way we did. I wouldn't change it at all.

We did that too...at the court house with just our parents and went out to eat after.  We also didn't exchange rings until Mexico, so it still felt like Mexico was our wedding.

I have heard terrible things about the legal ceremony.  You have to have blood tests, documentation translated, and then it takes like 6 months on top to get your marriage license and it comes in spanish, not English.  I would think very carefully before you decide to do that.

thanx for the helpful info about the photographs and how they come on a CD. I dont know why I didnt realize this. I sort of still dont understand it because if Adventure photos isnt actually printing the pics why dont they just burn all of the pictures they took onto a CD for us? Why even make us choose which photos when they are just going onto a CD? They already put them on the computer for us to choose from, so it actually would cost them NOTHING to put them all on a CD. lol i dont know this is just a silly thing to me... then from there we could choose what to get printed and so forth.

Make sure you post your highlight video when you get it!!  It took Mike like a month to send me mine!  I was so impatient and didn't have it for my at home reception which was such a bummer... but it was awesome so it worked out!

He also sent me a blue ray and 3 dvds and the external hard drive with the footage, which I still have yet to get working on my Mac.  But it is very awesome to have!

also i didnt realize the photos all just come on a cd.. im a little dissapointed because its not cheap and to still have to go and get the pictures done is a little crazy. maybe an outside photographer is not a terrible idea even though adventure does great work.

    Emily,

All you have to do is tell them the name of the song.  You don't need to send them the file.  :)

We have stayed at other Amresorts before and whenever we did ANY type of service at the spa or salon we were allowed to use the hydrotherapy circuit.  Dreams is telling me $43 per person for us to go the day of the wedding even though we are spending so much money there!

What are the rest of you planning on doing the day of your wedding?  We were planning on the girls spending the day at the spa.  I'm starting to feel so ripped off with things!

We were only allowed to use the spa for our honeymoon services!  The girls on the day of the wedding all hung out while we all got made up but they could not use the spa.  We had the presidential suite though so we just hung out in there.  It would've been nice if we could've gone early the morning of and relaxed there first though!

Lindsey, did you find you had enough photos with package 3?  I'm assuming you got 100 + some extra from your wedding package?  Sometimes I think "oh 150 will be tons" and then I hear that some people had a hard time narrowing it down to 300 and I start to worry that we'll just end up paying for a ton of extra images.

I did think I had enough photos.  It was hard to choose but I know if I had more I wouldn't look at them all the time and when I did it would take forever.  Now I just look at my album from time to time and enjoy the memories but it didn't seem necessary to pay for all the photos.  Plus they want a ridiculous amount for them!  I was very satisfied with our decisions regarding photography!

So I have a question..... i was emailed a link to my photos and told to pick 180 i think. now once i pick them what happens exactly, do i get regular sized prints of them or do i get them blown up? is that all an extra charge? This has me totally confused because they didnt say to pick which ones i want made bigger etc.... of course i want some to be larger than others to be hung up and so forth...  they also told me to mark the 150 i want in the album.

i was thinking of getting an extra small sized photo book for my parents... did anyone do this and know the extra charge? im wondering if i should do it myself or have them do it?

just confused about this whole aspect....

ALSO any suggestions for good songs for the slide show? they just asked me to send them my song I want and im at work and really want my slideshow lol so im trying to think of what to use

    Emily,

They don't do prints unless you purchase them separately.  They are ala carte.  The 180 you are to pick are to go on a CD that they send you.  If you want prints you have to get them done separately from the disc they send you.  They do canvas there and the photo book which is like a shutterfly book.

If that's true it's new.  I got married in July and we did 3, and you can see my slideshow above.  I hope they didn't change it, that doesn't seem fair!

I decided on package number 4 because it seemed to have the most coverage, but looks to me that regardless of the photos they take it's for 6 hours total (including ceremony, reception, trash the dress, etc.)   I'm contemplating whether I should take photos before the ceremony, has anyone done this?  Or if you haven't done this were you able to take enough pictures after the ceremony and still enjoy your cocktail hour?    I really want to be there for the cocktail hour portion with my guests.

Also I do want to do the trash the dress so if I decide to have the photography come before the ceremony to take photos it cuts into my package time, I would probably need to opt for the trash the dress package in addition to package 4.

    Any feedback is appreciated.

I didn't take pictures before the ceremony but she got a lot of pictures!  We did miss almost all of the cocktail hour though.  Here is our slideshow:
