  1. I'm doing the same thing.  Just putting it in a garment bag and hoping they will hang it in first class!  We're flying AA too.

If they don't, they can watch me cry! LOL

We are flying AA, I'm bringing my dress in the garment bag and plan to carry it on since I've heard they will usually hang it up for you in first class closet. If your airline doesn't have a first class or pilot's closet, they maaaaay ask you to store it overhead....not ideal.....but still MUCH better than checking it! I plan to get mine steamed anyway once I get there.

  2. I would just forward the on-site planner the e-mail from Yesenia that says you only need the one day pass.  I would also cc Yesenia on the e-mail that you're forwarding to the on-site planner.

I'm going to print out all of my e-mails from the beginning of planning to bring with me, so we don't run into any problems.

  3. I found some info on-line about how much of your resort dollars can be used towards the tours and other items.  i.e. you can't use all of your resort dollars towards the dolphin swim.  Hope this helps.  Also, it tells you the cost for each of the tours.

    TOURS
You can use up to all of your vacation dollars on any of these select tours/activities:

    • Chichen Itza ($120 per adult, $67 per child)
    • Wet 'n Wild ($59 per adult, $53 per child)
    • Isla Mujeres ($75 per adult, $40 per child)
    • Coba ($80 per adult, $42 per child)
    • Tulum/Aventura Cove Palace ($100 per adult, $67 per child)
    • Ultimate Dolphin Swim (at Wet 'n Wild. Transportation for this activity is not included. $129 per person)

All participants in the Dolphin Swim Program must be at least 8 years old and no less than 48 inches tall. Ultimate Dolphin Swim maximum credit of $200 from 12/19/2011 - 01/02/2012; 03/30/12 - 04/08/12; 06/15/12 - 08/15/12. Tours and activities are provided by the Palace Vacation Planners.
    GOLF
All vacation dollars can be used towards green fees and shared golf carts at the following courses: Moon Spa & Golf ClubRiviera Cancun Golf & Resorts, and Playacar Spa & Golf Club. Vacation dollars are applicable for golf rounds at regular price. Golf rounds include early fee, green fee, twilight fee, and junior fee and exclude all other fees. Transportation to the golf courses is included.
    ROOM UPGRADE
All vacation dollars can be used towards a room upgrade available upon arrival. The cost of room upgrades will be based on the resort's rack rates. Please note you cannot use resort credits to upgrade to a Family Deluxe suite or Presidential Suite.

All vacation dollars are available for use towards selected award winning wines.

I've done Xel Ha on a previous visit and loved it but many of my guests are wanting to stick to tours they can use credits towards (understandably) so thinking of doing the Dolphinaris on one of our days if it's worth it??

  4. This whole moving people to other resorts is just nuts! I don't know how they can do that.  I will be so upset.  I've been looking forward to this vacation and our wedding for so long now.  I hope all goes well.  Let's cross our fingers ladies!

So not sure if anyone read Kzade about their wedding issues with Palace's booking issues, but I wanted to post a review I Just read on TripAdvisor of someone else who is also have the same issues with booking and not having things run smoothly with their wedding and had to move resorts mid trip.

TO be honest, this is making me question their change-over, service and everything I have been looking forward hearing all of these negative reviews and experiences. I hope us ladies who have weddings here in the next month or so have a great experience!!

    Here is the review:

We traveled March 30 - April 6 with a group of 30 (including children) in 12 rooms for a wedding and weeklong itinerary. Planning started last August through RCI. If as advertised and planned, this would have been perfect for the group and wedding. The Cove has the facilities and location for a spectacular all-inclusive experience. However; NOTHING is as promised. They are a ship without a rudder. There is no management to speak of and the staff that remains is hassled and incompetent as they try to maneuver through what appears to be a major change to Hard Rock that no one fully comprehends.

Our $1500 resort credit was dropped to $500 (not sure where that miscommunication started) so we could not do the included activities on our itinerary, the shuttles to the other hotels (where the wedding ceremony was located) were no longer running and we paid for car rental and taxis for the entire group, the recipricol all-inclusive at Palace hotels does not exist, we paid extra for the wedding, golf, cars, tips, taxis, tours, and double paid in several instances for the family (though no family rooms were available).

On day 5, we were informed that a Jewish Kosher group was moving in and occupying the entire Cove side. The restaurants were closed, the bars closed, and we were forced to pack up and move to the Cancun Beach Resort because the Spa side is adults only! The Cancun Palace is NOT a children-friendly environment - it is a haven for spring break drunken debauchery. Our activities planned for the end of the week are in the Riviera Maya, not Cancun and now we either have to cancel and lose the money for the activity, or pay for transportation down to Playa del Carmen and lose 3 hours travel time. DISASTER. We were not compensated a penny, nor given any incentive to make this major and very inconvenient change.

I am interested to know if any of the prior Cove responses ever came to fruition. We saw this type of ineffective patronization over and over again. e never walked into the lobby without witnessing a disappointed and angry encounter.

To top it all off, I am writing this from our room in Cancun (where we holed up eagerly awaiting our departure and to avoid the throngs of partying minors and clueless adults) nursing the second bout of food poisoning from the poorly run restaurants. Donâ€t order any seafood at these restaurants. We need a nap, as the first drunk teenager accidentally called our room at 1:30am last night, and the halls echoed with slurred screaming until about 3am.

If you go to Mexico expecting All-Inclusive standards - you will be disappointed. If you go to a Palace Resort expecting Mexican standards - this is normal. If you want Hard Rock, go to Las Vegas - the weather is the same and you can drink the water. If you want real Mexico, avoid Cancun altogether.

  5. From what I understand from reading past post on here, you can change the location once you get to the resort.

  6. Welcome to the thread!  This thread has kept me sane.  You'll find some great pics and advice on here.  If it make you feel any better we're scheduled to leave on April 28th, getting married on May 3rd and I'm yet to hear from a WC.  Yesenia told me last week that I would hear from my WC but nope, not the case and Yesenia is out this week.

The only thing that I did get accomplished was having our spa apts. confirmed.  I am so thankful that I ended up going with a package instead of the complimentary so at least I don't have to worry about the ceremony arrangements.

Don't be afraid to ask and all questions.  I'm sure one of us will know the answer or point you in the right direction.

We are getting married May23rd and I feel as though I should at least have some idea of what is going on, but I guess this is the waiting game!  I'm not a crazy bride by any means (obviously if I'm running away to Mexico!) but I'm just so nervous trying to make heads or tails of all the changes going on!  I keep reading my contract over and over hoping to figure out why no one has called or emailed me!  Poor Yesina, I've been trying to get her to help me and she told me over a week ago my WC Carolina? (I honestly can't remember) would be contacting me tomorrow.  And here I am!

Thanks guys for sharing in my pain/anguish!

  7. Bree if you only knew the dreams that I've been having!  So I guess that makes me a nerd too:)

She's going to press my dress for me and then I can pick it up on Sat.

I have another dress that I brought to her to alter for me as well. I was going to wear that one for my welcome get together and my at home reception but now it appears that I have to wear it for my cocktail party and dinner after the ceremony too. She isn't able to bustle my gown :(   I'm so short so if she bustled it I would be sitting on the buttons! OUCH  I don't want to worry about having my train dragging on the ground behind me all evening.

The other dress is very beautiful too.  It was full length bridal gown and a very light material and I had her make it into a cocktail dress.  So I have my final fitting for that on Sat when I pick up the other one. I'll probably end up being more comfortable.

We have to come up with a time and location to get together while we're there.

I also had a nightmare after the fitting about my dress being too short because I bought a new pair of heels lol, I'm a nerd!

  8. Thanks for the info!

I'm not able to open attachments yet, but thanks for trying!  $2.50 per bag is very reasonable to me.  I was thinking they were going to charge us about $10 per bag.

I guess I should figure to spend at least $126 on a bouquet.  Thanks again!  I wish you all the best:)

Have fun and enjoy the day!

I just had my final gown fitting today and it's all done! Yay for me!  I just wish I could hear from a WC so we can wrap things up.  It's less than a month away for us now.  We leave April 28th.

    So happy for you!

I have been working with Edith and she hasn't mentioned any set up fee (I'm not going to bring it up!) but I'll let you know when I return on the 28th what the cost ends up being. We are doing the complimentary package, but bringing runners, chair sashes, and most of my centerpieces (renting hurricane vases from them).

They charge $2.50 per bag to deliver the welcome bags to the guest rooms.

As for the bouquets, we are bringing our own, but in the wedding packet - it lists $126 for the Maid of Honor bouquet and 'starting' at $154 for the bridal bouquet - so it's definitely less than $126!

Here is the packet in case anyone finds it helpful msnwink.gif

Bree, can you e-mail the price list when you get it.  I can't open attachments yet either!

We go to Mexico a couple times a year and I just happened to buy my niece and nephews maracas when we were there in Nov.  I paid $1 each but a lot of times you can find them in the resort gift shops for $1.25 or $1.50 each.  We're going to buy some this trip too to put in front of the guests dinner plates.

I also bought little baby keychain ones to attach to each guest bags.

What location did you choose for ceremony and reception?

Our WC is Karime Perez, she seems so much more helpful then the other ones! i think she is my fourth or fifth WC so far!!

I'm so excited for you! when do you leave? we leave in 17 days!

Oh and sxcT - What prices were the maracas you bought in Mexico - just asking because we haven't got a clue what they will cost and just dont want to get ripped off! Thanks!

This board has been fantastic!! You ladies rock!

  11. We chose this location as well thanks to Jess's pics!

When I do hear from a WC, I'll let you know what they quote us for decoration set up.  I too am bringing all of my decorations for the cocktail party and dinner.  We bought the package for the ceremony so all the decorations for the ceremony are included in that.

I also need to find out how much they are going to charge to deliver the guest's welcome bags to their rooms.

Have any of you received a quote for the price for bridesmaid bouquets?

The only person I've heard from is the photographer.

Also, are you having a private reception or are you having it at one of the restaurants?  I chose Mundaca Steakhouse for our reception and loved it!  We did not pay for a private reception but had a covered patio area all to ourselves.

I am shocked they have raised the decoration price so much!! I was married there in June and we paid $65 for them to decorate my cocktail party and ceremony.  We did not have much for decoration, but I still think $300 is quite excessive!!  If they suggested more than $100 to us we would have done it ourselves.

  12. I can't believe that! You seem amazingly calm.  I would totally be losing by now!!  I certainly hope that they are compensating you for your loss and the inconvenience.  That just wouldn't sit right with me.  How could someone buy out a resort.  Seriously, something just doesn't make sense.

I feel soooooo bad for you!  If I were you I would definitely request compensation for this.  How could they do that to you.  It's beyond me.

They just called and told us we could not longer stay or have our wedding at the cove because they had someone buy out the resort.  We have a child in our party, so that automatically means no spa.  They did tell us they'll move us to another palace resort, but it's still a huge shock and very stressful.

  13. Our contract is similar to yours but not quite the same.  Congratulations on such great attendance for your special day.

Hope all goes well for you!

I have my first fitting tomorrow!  It's all coming so fast now!

If you did a group contract, depending on how many room nights your guests booked, you get benefits based on that. See below:

5-9 rooms for 3 nights or 15 room nights = One hour cocktail function (function areas are assigned upon availability with the onsite wedding planner and confirmed upon arrival)

10-19 rooms for 3 nights or 30 room nights = Two complimentary nights based on original room category booked up to Concierge Level + one hour cockatil function (function areas are assigned upon availability with the onsite wedding planner and confirmed upon arrival)

20-24 rooms for 3 nights or 60 room nights = Four complimentary nights based on original room category booked up to Concierge Level + 1 two hour private function

25 rooms for 3 nights or 75 room nights = Seven complimentary nights based on original room category booked up to Concierge Level + unlimited private function (one hour cocktail + two hour dinner. MAX three hours per day) + one room upgrade for the bride and groom to the next available room category up to Concierge Level.

I know we are at the 75 room nights, so we get the benefits of the best package, which is great so you dont have to pay per person to have a private event.

Let me know how the rest of the planning goes!!

  14. Thanks for the link! I'll be sure to print it out, along with many others!

  15. So happy for you Jess! Have fun making your Babino in Mexico!!!  I hope you have a great time! You've been such a great support system on here!  Because of you and Amber I'm not stressing at all.

  16. Thanks for the heads up!

We're not doing a private reception but we're doing a private cocktail party.  With the amount of rooms we have booked, we get it at no additional charge based on our group contract.

Did you get a group contract?

Didn't feel we were a large enough group to spend the extra money on a private reception.  Amber and Jess helped me choose the Mundaca Steakhouse because you can eat outside under the side covered patio.  Jess said you get a fair amount of privacy this way. Plus I like the way they set up the table for the dinner.  It's a T shape with the bride and groom facing your guests.  I figured we could party on at one of the bars or the disco.

Was the coordinator the Miami coordinator or the resort coordinator?  From reading posts on here it appears you'll have the most luck with the on-site coordinator and more options.

She also asked about my bouquet preferences, hopefully they can order the orchids I want, she said she would let me know.
She then asked about photography - but from the get go we asked Yesenia if we could use Del Sol, she said yes, so we booked. Then this WC is like we don't allow outside vendors - i nearly flipped! after saying again I received confirmation from Yesenia back in September regarding this, she finally said okay well you will have to pay a guest fee (I already knew). Talk about giving somebody a heart attack! She was really irritated when she found out we were using them.

Basically any email we have ever spent time writing has fallen on deaf ears. She even had our wedding date wrong. I have been incredibly disappointed so far with the customer service.

oh well I'm not going to let it bother me, I just shake my head.

But I do have a question, is anybody doing a private reception? she told me its $50 per person for the private event.

  17. We're going to try and fit most of everything in our carry on bags.  And some in our check bags. If we have to we'll pay the extra $50 for an additional bag.  I figure even if we have to pay for an extra check bags it's still a lot less than paying the resort for their decorations.  I've really tried to keep in mind when purchasing items, what can be packed flat and what can I take that won't be bulky.

I've made about 100 paper tissue flowers for the table centerpieces for the dinner table. We'll buy some mexican pottery when we get there to put them in.  With the flowers, I made them and put them on the wire but didn't puff them out so they'll travel flat.  There's a great shop on 5th ave in Playa del Carmen that you can buy stuff on the cheap.  And I mean cheap! We always hit that store when we go to Playa.

There's also a Walmart in Playa del Carmen near 5th ave.  So if there's some last minute things you need to purchase, it may be worth it for you to rent a car for the day.

When I get some extra time, I'll post some pics of the decorations that I've made and purchased to take.

We just started planning our at home reception over the weekend!  It never stops:) !

It's going to cost more for that than our wedding in Mexico!

My biggest fear is the changing of the resort, bad customer service experiences and just overall experiences from trip advisor and reviews I have been reading. 18. I'll let you know.  Yesenia told me that I would be hearing from the Miami WC in March, but uh she's running out of time!

I've pretty much picked out my wedding event locations, I just need to let them know where I want to have everything.  Yesenia told me that I'm the only bride on my day so I don't think I'll have a problem.

As for the ceremony, I bought a package so I think I'm okay there.

I'm bringing the decorations for my cocktail party and my dinner.  I pretty much figured out what I wanted and needed based on past brides that I've chatted with on this thread.  If it wasn't for their help I think I would be freaking out.

The last few post about the cake and bouquets helped me figure out what I needed with that.

I've diy almost everything for our wedding and I'm so thankful for all the help from this site and the other brides.  And I purchased my own table runners and napkins on e-bay.  When I get a chance I'll have to post all of my diy pics!  I've been very busy!!

I did however, book all of the spa/salon services and received a confirmation e-mail.  I read somewhere that the spa/salon books up quick because of the resort dollars.

  19. Again great info! Thanks so much.  We purchased the Emerald package and I'm not crazy about all of the brown on our cake in the pic.  I was going to ask them to change the brown to pink.  Nice to know that it's not going to be a problem :)

Good to know about the bridal bouquet as well.  I was going to ask them to add some pink in mine.  A couple less things to worry about!  Your cake was simple and beautiful.  We only have 12 people so a 3 layer cake will totally be wasted.  Maybe I'll have them deliver wedding cake to everyone eating at the restaurant! LOL

We chose the steakhouse as well.  From looking at your pics and Jess's it seems that you get the most privacy this way.

I haven't heard from the WC, but I'm not upset yet.  I think if I don't hear from them by the 1st or 2nd week in April I may get a little pissy!

We had the Amber package and the cake that was supposed to come with ours was bright orange and I didn't want that. So I just asked if it could be white with some fresh flowers on it...they used the same color roses that I had in my bouquet on the cake as well, so it worked out perfectly! I also chose not to have the bouquet that came with the Amber package because I didn't like any of them. If you can describe or bring a picture of what you are looking for, they are willing to try it (unless its a more expensive flower and then you would have to pay more). I wanted roses so there was no addtl charge for that.

  20. Thanks for the info! I was wandering if they would let you do different flavors with the layers! I really want red velvet, but Jeff would like something more like carrot or plain vanilla!  Can you remind me what the tres leches is?

With our wedding package, we were able to chose a different flavor for each tier...we did tres leches, carrot, adn chocolate cake and they were ALL so delicious! We were so happy with our choices. Also, the WONDERFUL servers at Mundaca Steakhouse took the time to cut a small piece of each flavor for every person, so they didn't have to pick a flavor, they got to try all three, which was awesome!! It broke my heart to waste the rest of the cake, because we had so much leftover and couldn't bring it home with us. They gave us a to-go box to take some back to the room and we ate some 'late-night'!

I wouldn't worry about the cake looking perfect with the heat and all...as long as it looks decent and tastes yummycheesy.gif

I'm having trouble uploading a picture of our cake, but if I figure it out, I'll send it!

  21. I hope I don't sound like a moron, but what is the difference between the fondant and chantilly?  I've heard of fondant but not chantilly.  Did they offer you a choice of flavors for the cake?  My package the "emerald" comes with a cake.  In the picture the decoration is in brown chocolate.  I'm  hoping they can make the brown a pink.

I'm still waiting to hear from a WC.  Thanks so much for sharing! It definitely helps us brides that haven't had any communication yet.  I did however, get our salon apts booked.  At least I know my hair will look pretty wink.gif

  22. Thanks so much for your input! Everything helps so much.  Especially when you haven't heard boo from the resort.  I've been looking through photos of hairstyles and want to be realistic in my expectations.

I think it also depends on which gazebo you're getting married in...the closer to the water, the windier it will be. We were married in the Tulum Gazebo which is not right on the water, so it was less windy for us. However, the Chichen and Coba are over the water, so probably breezier.

I purposely did not wear a veil for this reason, because I didn't want it to be annoying and blowing all over the place. I decided to wear my hair up, because if it was down in curls, the curls would have been a mess from the wind. That was just my theory though! Mine was not a super tight up-do...it was low and a little looser and it worked fine. Just use alot of hairspraycheesy.gif

I am so excited for you ladies...I miss it there and am SO ready to go back!!

  23. What a great video! Thanks so much for sharing :)  I guess it is pretty windy.  Was the video done by the resort?  I know our wedding package comes with one.

How long was your ceremony? I think you said before that they take about 1 1/2 hours after the ceremony to take photos. Is this correct? Just trying to figure out what time to have our cocktail party start.  We'd like to be there for it.
